Top 100 PC Games of the 21st Century (so far)
« on: September 10, 2006, 03:31 AM »
Next-Gen has ranked the top 100 PC games released since January 2000, based wholly on unit sales. Revenues, aggregate review scores, commentary, franchise information and more are included.

I completely disagree with the Top 10 (Harry Potter? For God's sake...), but thanks a lot for the link!

They were right on diablo 2 and warcraft 3 being in the top 10, but where are games like BF2 of Doom3/Quake4. Those should easily make top 10.

I wonder were all the sims expansion packs taken into account. Seems like that would give it an advantage, though I'm undecided if that would be unfair or not.

IMO, the sims are overrated. It loses its novelty after a few hours of play. Even the sims 2, there wasnt anything there to "WOW" me.

Josh: based wholly on unit sales... so not whether the games are any good :)

Yeah looking at that list, and seeing some lackluster and downright appaling titles, franchise and licensed games (how the hell can a retro compilation containing Asteroids and pong be called 21st century). I think the list should be named

Top 100 PC title Advertising Budgets.

Thanks for the list but I guess this list is more relevant for us, PC Gamers!

Not really. It contains not released titles like "Diablo III" or "Prototype". Even if they will be finished in 21st century (and I believe Prototype will be awesome), that's way to far to put the game in "Top Something" before premiere.

Edited: I've browsed through mentioned list and I see that most of the titles I didn't know are rated pretty bad by IGN themself. This list is "Top talked" not "Top enjoyable". I do not believe that "no matter what they're talking, it's important they're talking at all"  rule is good one :)

fenixproductions I do agree with this statement "I do not believe that "no matter what they're talking, it's important they're talking at all"  rule is good one" of you BUT what is a good game?
It depends! For me the best games are Civilization or Red Alert kind of STRATEGY GAMES, and if you ask my brother the best games in the world are Football Manager 2009 or NBA Live series of Electronic arts. So I think the list of IGN site is at least is a "Top talked" list of games, since you can not measure the enjotyablity! ;)

I fully understand that it's impossible to create one and universal list but they should consider their own ratings at least!

The Witcher is 38th with 8.5 (great) points while Helldorado - 13th with 5.7 (mediocre). That is some kind of joke to say Helldorado is way better than The Witcher. Quick look on Gamespot shows: W - 8.5 (great), H - 4.5 (poor). Both sites show that H is a crap but IGN list suggest something different.

You can't measure "enjoyability" but you can "reliability" :)
