Why is this noteworthy?

Well, it doesn't seem noteworthy, given the recent history of changes (see below), but then one never knows how significant those fixes/changes might have been for some users (including oneself). Generally any incremental bugfix or improvement is probably welcome in an archiving tool - given its relative importance in the software armoury. I had v16.03 and as a precautionary approach have just updated to v16.04 anyway, after reading this thread - I use the RAR functionality and also do some work under Vista - so, thanks for the heads-up @MilesAhead.

The update to 16.03 was quite recent and this may have flown under the radar.  Not to invoke DefCon 5 or anything.    I know a lot of people prefer 7-zip especially on DC so I mentioned it.

It is probably not all that different.  A new version of WinRar came out where the compression algorithm was updated.  I still use the old one because you can blend in 10% error correction in the .rar file without any big suffering.  But I guess the 3rd party decompression tools have to update if they want to support the new format.

Look at Windows 98 "upgrading" all the way to Windows 10.  I guess with some things like the old KLH Stereo Systems, the lower model number was higher quality.  By that definition I guess Windows 1.0 was the best of the bunch.

Though 7-Zip has some good functionality - which helps to make it rather flexible in use - it doesn't seem to have an option to check for the latest version or offer to update to the latest version. That sort of check seems to be ubiquitous (well, in most software).
I wonder if it is a deliberate omission? I think it must be.
