I am impressed by the number of options, yet I want to request just one more!  :-[
To help me remember where I am, can "Search Locations" have option to show the folder's short name, please, instead of the entire path:

Very strange... Unicode is supported by the product and right now I have searched in a Unicode directory with Unicode file names without any problems.

Could you please post here the name of the directory you have the problem with and I will try to create a directory with the same name on my computer?

The search was initiated via a right-click in Explorer's left margin tree. To make sure I was spelling correctly, I was looking at the file I was searching for; nothing difficult about the situation. The same method worked well on a different folder with normal Latin characters only, so in my imagination all this boiled down to a question of Unicode - but I have almost no understanding of computers.
