I'll bet the cover versions are Visual Studio Express - not standard.

In the UK VS 2005 Standard is currently selling for £265 !!

I missed that - I tried a search, but it looks like searching from the "Deals and Discounts" forum limits the search to that forum, so I didn't get a hit.

Anyway, for anyone who's going to do this, it turns out you can save some time by simply downloading the webcasts - you can watch them later (or never, I suppose).

All the VS 2005 Express stuff can be downloaded fom the MS website for free. They are in standard CD ISO format so that you can burn CDs easily and install from standard installation discs.

The offer has changed slightly...

Instead of VS2005 Standard for free, they replaced it with a 90 day trial of VS2005 Professional.

Everything else in the offer seems to be the same though.
