Windows Secrets is catching up.........
[quote Command Central: Windows functions in one place
How did an essentially undocumented trick, designed for IT administrators and commonly called GodMode, go viral on the Internet? Certainly the all-powerful connotation of the name aroused interest. But it's this function's one-stop list of Windows tools that wins over most users.

Whatever you wish to call this function, it conveniently consolidates into one folder a veritable switchboard of configurable Windows options and commands. The 256 items (sorted into 45 categories) are typically buried under layers of Control Panel menus or in right-click submenus — or otherwise submerged in the vast number of admin tools in Windows.

To create this folder, take the following steps:

Right-click a free spot on the desktop and select New/Folder.

Give the new folder any name you wish, as long as it's followed by a period and the following string of characters: {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
For example, the file name could be something similar to this: All Commands.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Double-click to open the folder, and it should be populated with more than 250 functions. ][/quote]

If you don't subscribe to Windows Secrets, I suggest you do. Once in awhile they post something you could use.

Works for me. Quite the bunch of buttons.  :)
(Edit: I'm on Windows 8.0 x64.)

...Also in W8 if you hit Winkey x, there's a small menu with commonly needed links such as Computer Management, Programs and Features, Disk Management, Control Panel, Admin and regular Command Prompts, Run etc..  :)

^^ Yes, I find the hotkey Win+X to be very handy: (using Win8.1-64 PRO)
Here's the menu that I get (after having modified it a little bit).

By the way, here are all (262) paths in the list of GodMode functions that I get using GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
(I posted them in the TXT file below as it was impossible to post them as code text in this comment - kept getting "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.")    :huh:

Whilst I was mucking about with the GodMode functions/files per my post above, I noticed that the "files" had what looks like search metadata - quite long strings of it - in the Tags field.
I had thought the Tags were in the NTFS ADS (Alternate Data Stream), along with the Comment field, however, using xplorer² (which enables you to View, Split, Bundle to Go, Unpack bundle the ADS) the View shows there's apparently nothing in the ADS. Furthermore the user is unable to edit or add comments to the Comment field, and I have not yet figured out how to access (read/copy) the contents of the Tags field for these "files" (they have no File Properties either). If they are Junction Points or something, then that might help to explain it, I suppose.

Here's a partial screenshot of the relevant columns, to give you an idea of what I am on about:

GodMode - function metadata is in Tags field but not in NTF ADS.png

I think you are correct...... they are junctions points.

Here's some more I just ran across.......

The "Godmode" is the access to the "All Tasks" item in the Control Panel.

The same way you can create quick access to the other items:

{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} for Desktop Personalization
{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} for Network Connections

{7b81be6a-ce2b-4676-a29e-eb907a5126c5} for Programs and Features

{1206F5F1-0569-412C-8FEC-3204630DFB70} for Credential Manager

I just tried the one for Programs.
Works like a charm, or like Godmode,
and I'm on Win8.1.1 64 also.
Brad cautioned about NOT using Godmode on Vista. See all the remarks to get all the facts.

Got the metadata in the Tags.
I opened the GodMode list in xplorer² and copied all the items with data in the Tags field using Nirsoft's SysExporter. It seems that only the first 27 items have data in the Tags column. Here they are in a comma delimited TXT file. Just open it with a spreadsheet proggie (I used Excel).

Tangentially, I only saw one mention of Windows Run-Command on DC.  I ran across the update on Snapfiles and decided to try it.  Not bad.  Sits in tray and opens on Winkey r.  It has the expected links to command prompt, elevated command prompt etc..  But it also has a Favorites with folders such as Tools and recently run stuff.

I like it because it doesn't try to do too much.  All the graphical shells like you see on Linux that I've tried for Windows seemed pretty flaky(albeit I haven't canvased the category.)

I'm just a young'n I guess, never heard about this until now. As awesome as this is, it's unlikely I'll ever have need for it. I'll keep it around either way. Thanks for the post :Thmbsup:

Just a note on godmode. I tried it on Win 8.1 x64 and it worked fine. I then created another folder called 'c:\godmode shortcuts' and mass created a shortcut to every entry in the godmode folder by selecting all and then right-click drag and drop. I then added the 'c:\godmode shortcuts' folder to FARR along with a 'god' alias to search that shortcut folder. That worked fine.

Also, using Win+S to open the search charm is very useful. You can find anything you want concerning windows using the search charm which is very well designed.

@JohnJ could you post the FARR alias?  I'd like to try it out as there are quite a few shortcuts.
