May I suggest a workaround?

Print to PDF (right click on each book and "print to selected heading and all subtopics" for each book -- if you use BullZip PDF or PDF Creator (trickier), you can append to previous book so you end up with one PDF). This would be a good AHK script candidate actually unless there is something out there that already converts CHM to PDF directly.

Then open up the PDF in PDF X-Change Viewer (lite / free), and highlight and annotate to your heart's content.

But that is not direct daddydave.
I was thinking about beyond chm or similar software, better free.

Best regards

You mean something like Hilitext?  That's payware; the last free version is >> here <<

Warning; Hilitext-payware doesn't work as well for me on Vista as it did on XP.  I don't know how well the last free version will work for you on whatever OS you're using.

I think is not what I am looking for.
Seems a powerful search tool. And highlight the term you are searching, but not in the way I can do with adobe acrobat or a similar program.

Don't highlight or personalized a CHM file. Or I think so.
