Sending Filename to ShareX
« on: July 20, 2012, 03:57 PM »
Hey guys...
I was curious if anyone used Screenshot Captor with ShareX and has found a way to make ShareX use the filename that you give the file in SC. The behavior I'm seeing is I press Print Screen. I get the dialog asking what I want to do with the output. I select the Upload image file with uploader tool option from the Send To... drop down menu. I get a balloon with the name of my screenshot looking how I want it. And then ShareX uploads a file named scree~#.png to my webserver. :-\ I tried setting ShareX to the same string setup as Screen Captor as well as changing the %shortfile% to %file% and then again to a full path in the options file hoping something along those lines would help.

Anyone have some thoughts for how I can make ShareX use the filename I give the screenshot in Screenshot Captor?

Thanks!

I forgot to mention I'm using the FTP upload method.

Thanks!

Actually with a full path I just got this one: sc2d13~.png  Not sure where or why it's coming up with these names. Does ShareX have a file name length limit I'm hitting maybe?

HMMMMMMmmmmm...

2012-07-20 15:04:22.951 - CommandLine: "C:\Program Files\ShareX\ShareX.exe" c:\screen~1\screen~1\sc2d13~1.png -nohotkeys

Interesting.

With or without quotes in the ShareX.sctool file. It's like it's completely ignoring the settings in there. :-\

Sorry for spamming my own topic. :D But it looks like it's using a short 8.3 filename on the command line for this. Not entirely sure which program is to blame atm. Anyone know a way to make it use the full name of the file? (Example: "%file%" vs %file% there appears to be no difference from what I see.)

Or is this more a ShareX problem and I should take it up with their people?

Thanks!

That's a good question regarding short version of file name being sent.. I have a feeling it's Screenshot Captor's doing.. but let me look into it and add an option to not do that if it is.

So I noticed that the "Send to.." menu in windows works fabulous and ShareX uploads the file to my server without mangling the name. So I'm guessing you're correct on the short name issue happening on SSCs end.

For the time being I've disabled the Upload with Uploader tool check box in the Post-Capture Options section of the Options dialog. For the time being I just use Keep image and then make any edits if I want. If I don't I just right click it in the explorer sidebar and do a "Send to..." and pick ShareX. With that disabled though it appears the ShareX image uploader tool in the red toolbox button doesn't work... (Which is why I have been using the Send To method.)

Anyway thought I'd report back with those couple of tidbits that I found.

Thanks,
