webpage change notifier
« on: February 24, 2011, 03:16 PM »
hello

I am looking for a program that will monitor each day a webpage and if that webpage change to notify me.

It is about a webpage of a webshop that I need to be notified when this product become low stock or on sale.

I don't want to receive false notifications, I want to receive notifications only when a specific portion of the webpage changes.

any idea?

thanks

I can think of 2 off-hand:

Check & Get

Website Watcher

Both are very powerful, lots of features and will definitely do what you need (with a bit of faffing) - but they are both also (relatively) expensive. There are other solutions too - several freeware thingies let you set up a simple monitor to watch for changes to a page. For example I believe RainMeter can do that, but not tried it.

Newzie RSS reader can monitor pages that don't have feeds and report on changes...and it's free.

I don't think you can set it for specific areas, but it will allow you to compare old to new version and show you what changed.

each time you load the webpage, some parts of the webpage, change

so it is essential to be able to somehow prevent the app from thinking that the webpage has changed every time it connects to it

also, it is essential to be able to detect changes in areas like the text in a drop down menu

WebSite-Watcher has filters to ignore date changes, for example, and keyword filters to look for things like version number changes.

it is essential to be able to detect changes in areas like the text in a drop down menu

Don't know about that.
