#2 is not a bug, but working as designed (you are matching the name first).
as for #1, can you try again with latest download -- it works for me (maybe paste me your 2 aliases if it's still not working).

FARR version 2.75.01

alias1:
name=pad
pattern=[ ]*pad[ ]+(".*").*$
result=notepad.exe $$1

alias2:
name=aTest
pattern=^aa $
result=dolaunch restartsearch pad "this is aa"\n

it still not working if alias1 pattern=[ ]*pad[ ]+(".*")
