if you switch to advanced mode and go to configuration can you see different adapters to choose from? do you see your adapter? if it's blank, try rebooting and see if it finds your network adapters then.

if you can select your adapter, then start it sniffing and go visit some websites and see if it says in the statusbar that it is processing packets.

Thanks!

Yes, in the Advanced window I can see my adapter (NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter Driver) but when I start sniffing, it says it's sniffing traffic but I don't get a message that it's processing packets, no matter how many websites I go to.

To all users,

Please post each new BUG REPORT in it's own thread. Do not use this thread for bug reports. You can add them to the URL Snooper forum. After one is posted, we will add it to the URL Snooper - Official Bug Tracking Thread. This will help eliminate the clutter that was the old bug tracking thread.

Thanks for your help!

Josh

UPDATE:  Download and run doesn't work, but selecting Run instead of download DID work today.  Thanks.

Hello!

I'm trying to install the newest version of URL Snooper on my F backup drive with IE 6.0.  I installed the Mobythesaurus with no problems on 1/7/08, but when I click on Run for URL Snooper setup, I get a "Not a Valid Win32 application" error and nothing installs.

I'd appreciate your help.  I've downloaded twice in case I had a corrupted download file.

All the best,
Mary G.

Hello,

first at all: many thanks for your GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE!!!

But I've got a question:
At https://www.donation...e/Mouser/urlsnooper/  your website says "latest release: vv2.20.01", while the version history at https://www.donation...listandtodoitems.htm refers to v2.18.01. Could you please update this?

Look, this issue is VERY important to me because I would like to stay up to date with URL SNOOPER by using www.changedetection.com with your website (see also here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1247.0).

Thanks in adcance.

Greetings

Mister Floppy

Hi misterfloppy.
I'm not saying your problem won't be fixed, but you can use dcupdater to keep up to date with all of DC's programs ;)

Minor update which should improve compatibility for some people.

New version posted -- see changes list in first post of this thread.  This is a slightly experimental release rebuilt with newer compiler -- hopefully it will run ok for everyone.

Thanks for this. I've been trying to get hold of WinPcap 4.1 beta4 - the developer announced it a week or so ago, but there's no download link anywhere on the WinPcap website, nor on any of the major software portals.

I got it from the winpcap page, it's the second link down on this page:

I've visited that page many times - no download link for the beta shows up in my browser.

Thanks. I've figured out the problem - Ad Muncher was treating the beta panel on that page as an ad, and was blocking it and making it completely invisible.

ah, that makes sense!
you should probably drop the winpcap people a message about it.

I am getting index map out of range and I can not exit the program URL SNOPPER
i really thought i had fixed this.. try this:
  • exit the program (use ctrl+alt+del and terminate it if you can't exit normally)
  • delete the Settings.ini file in the C:\Program Files\URLSnooper2 directory
  • restart the program

Thanks a lot for URL Snooper ! It's a great program !

I am using it far beyond it's official multimedia purpose to log just any URLs visited while surfing. I am specially glad about the IP-address display. (Why? If I ever catch a virus it might be useful to track where it originally came from...).

For a perfect log I miss 4 things :
1. a possibillity to save the URLs PLUS the IPs linked to them under "save all URLs to a File". IPs are sadly missing here.
2. Date and Time as already asked for by someone, somwhere else in this forum.
3. Log to file automatically.
4. Choose Port to listen to.

if you know any other program that could do this already now I would be glad about a hint. If not :
would you mind to add the features in a future release of the "Snooper" ? It would turn it into THE ULTIMATE LOGGING MACHINE...

thanks !

Matitou

P.S.: HTTP-Sniffer does a good job too. But it does not log to disk unless you ask to save, there is no date/time either and it only logs http on port 80. I use it until something better comes up.

I tried installing but it gets as far as the WinCap installation and quits. It says WinCap won't install in Win7 (RC1/Build 7100). Is there a workaround?

P.S. There is. See my next reply. (I would have just deleted this post but didn't know how to do so.)

I am back now to report that I discovered WinpCap installs without a problem in Win7/RC1 if you install it as administrator and as an individual program and then give Windows permission to install it with the changes (including a supplemental download from WinpCap during the process) necessary for it to run. After that UrlSnooper runs great!

Thanks for a wonderful program!!! Even when not searching for multimedia it is so useful, especially so if you just want to see how many hundreds of times some web pages will try to redirect their traffic. With such sneakiness going on it is great to be able to keep tabs on it.

- Bob

New release:

Version 2.25.01 - October 29, 2009
  • Updated with latest version of WinPCap (4.1.1) - Now supports Windows 7
  • [BugFix] The error about index out of range when network adapters have changed on restart should be fixed.
  • [BugFix] Settings file was still being saved in application directory even on Win Vista/7; new version respects configdir.ini and portable settings, as well as storing working files in user documents directory by default on Win Vista/7.

Bugfix release for those having problems with adapter detection -- let's see if this helps:

Version 2.26.01 - December 13, 2009
  • [BugFix] Improved detection of network adapters -- was failing to list all available adapters on some people's computers.  Thanks to ixxo and everyone else on dc forum who reported and helped test (see here for the thread).
