Tool to edit Font Properties

Is there a tool to edit the properties or details of a font? (Like meta-data editors for images)
Actually, I want to change the 'Font Family Name' for a few fonts, but could not figure out a way to do this  ;)

I think the Font Family is not just metadata, but part of the font code, so you would need a full font creator/editor to do that.
