Sone has issued a voluntary recall of 438,000 Vaio laptops after concerns were raised about the unit overheating and potentially burning its user.

SONY has launched a voluntary recall of 438,000 Vaio notebooks, citing a potential hazard that could cause the machines to overheat or possibly burn a user.

It is one of the biggest computer recalls since 2006 when Dell recalled 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could overheat and catch fire.

  I'm still working on "insert image", so submitting something bloggable would be a freak accident, at best.

I think Ehtyar's article link applies to VAIOs sold worldwide (?). It mentions 400,000+computers, whereas the link I submitted from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission only mentions 40,000+.

So, this is more helpful.

The article simply says "includes those sold in the asia-pacific region", so I'm assuming the figure is worldwide, and news.com.au is publishing the information because it concerns its readers.
