Disabling Acrobat 8 IE integration
« on: March 24, 2008, 10:27 PM »
Hi

Does anyone knows of a way to disable acrobat IE intergration, so when I click on a pdf file, it will ask to save instead of opening automatically? In previous version, there is a nppdf32.dll file to delete, but for version 8, it does not work anymore.

Darn, I hate Acrobat, but the other viewers not ready to replace it.

Failing all else, could you write a little script to pop up a requester and -- if desired -- run acrobat on the file?   You could then set .pdf's to open with that instead of Acrobat itself.

Try to disable with ToolbarCop. It's a browser extensions manager which can disable or eliminate the following browser add-ons selectively from Internet Explorer:

  • Browser Helper Objects (BHO)
  • Toolbars
  • Standard Toolbar buttons
  • Context menu Extensions
  • Download managers
  • Protocol Handlers
  • Horizontal / Vertical Explorer Bars (side-search bars)
  • Startup applications originating from RUN registry keys.

Thanks for the offered solutions but I think I didn't explain myself clearly. What I wanted was to be able to click the pdf, and it asks to save the pdf in a dialog, not open in acrobat. The solutions offered were to disable browser integration, and open in acrobat instead, which is done. Previously it was done by setting the pdf extension to "Confirm open after download" with the browser integration disabled, but that does not work anymore

Also, did you check the Internet options configuration (Tools-Internet Options-Security Tab-Internet Icon-Custom Level-Downloads-Automatic Prompting for File Downloads)?

Load up Acrobat/Acrobat Reader and go to Edit Preferences then uncheck the option under Internet.
