No sound in Flash 9. Anyone else?
« on: December 26, 2007, 09:20 AM »
Okay so just one day I suddenly got no sound in Flash. Restarting didn't help.

After googleing it seems like I am not the only person who has this problem. Does anyone else here have it and does anyone know how to fix it?

BTW, Flash 9, Firefox, Windows Vista.

No sublimal messages for xp/linux/macosx switching please.

The only problem I've has with Flash is on many YouTube videos, the sound always is muted and I have to raise the volume in the player. I've never had any issues with flash with sound in general

I have to "repair" my flash install all the time

Have you tried these files
http://fpdownload.ma...all_flash_player.exe

I have both of these installed, don't know why but it helps,at least me
http://fpdownload.ma..._player_active_x.msi

http://fpdownload.ma..._player_active_x.exe

Try repair from add/remove panel as well

I have had a lot of problems with *9, and the only solutuion to me was to remove all of it, close all programs and reinstall. Installation failed several times, until I first closed literally all programs.

Curt: Thanks but I did do all of that. In fact, the installer now won't do its magic unless you close any app using Flash.

Then I guess the problem could be some Firefox add'on ?

Edit: Did you try with another browser?

Curt: You might be on to something. Flash in IE does work. Will try without extensions.
tinyvillager: My head popped due to a inablity to process that info. Can you put it back for me?

Edit: Tried disabling all the extensions, but it didn't work. Do i really have to uninstall? I have WAY too many of them to possibly reinstall them in a reasonable amount of time.

Flash Player Version Check

There is a download for Internet Explorer (and other browsers that support Internet Explorer ActiveX controls and plug-ins) and a download for Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera (and other plugin-based browsers)

Make sure you uninstall flash player before installing a new one.

PhilB66: I have the latest version, according to the version check.
I did try reinstalling earlier, but it still has no sound.

A paste from a link from phil's link:

No sound in Macromedia Flash Player 9?

I just reinstalled my system with XP SP2 and found that sound in Macromedia Flash player (version 9) wasn’t working. I compared it to another machine and found out that - for some obscure reason - the wavemapper mapping was missing.

I tried reinstalling other versions of the Flash player, but to no success … So I added the mapping myself via the registry.

Go to the following sweetspot in your registry:

My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

Create a new String value named “wavemapper“. As value give it “msacm32.drv“.

And that’s it, no restart necessary, all your Flash embedded videos will have sound again :)
