this came via vunet email: Libra 0.9, a library software to organize your stuff - books, audio CDs, movies, games & etc. at an amazing price ($0 for non-commercial use).

Other features include:
• Using your webcam to retrieve cataloged items via barcode.
• Lightning speed database, you can browse, sort & search for your items.
• Track who borrowed what and reminds when it's due.
• Print catalogs of your library collection.
• Share your collection online via an uploaded web page.
• Import existing collection, comes with import plugins for a number of popular applications.

kind of reminds me of the shelfari website.

I must say I am a very happy user of librarything - if you have lots of books then being able to catalog them is invaluable. And anything that can scan barcodes will make things much easier (librarything has the cuecat  but if this thing works with a webcam it could be quite clever!).

On the topic of librarything - it is not as "glitzy" as shelfari and others but the functionality is just right for it to be useful and stay useful - less gimmicks, more "meat". It is also one of 3 sites I ever use on my mobile as being able to double check I dont already own a book (or how far I have gotten in a particular series) from the bookshop floor has saved me a lot of embarrassment!

It's also pretty similar to MediaMan, save for the reason that MediaMan is shareware and a more polished product to boot.

I think, getlibra looks good, but as i am used to do most things online nowadays, i was searching for an online version, and found this, maybe some of you might like it as an alternative to shelfari:
