« Last post by tomos on March 21, 2008, 07:22 AM »
good point mediaguy

1GB costs €15, each extra gig costs €20 (that's O2 @.ie)
10GB cost €30

Clear choice there thanks for the tip

I hadnt even thought of updates for example
in the first post in my mind I was comparing my week & their month if you follow :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by tomos on March 21, 2008, 05:32 AM »
Kalos
have you tried XYPlorer - it's easy to try because you can get a portable trial version

far as I know all filemanagers use explorer - it is the shell, you can replace it with another shell - maybe someone else can comment there..

EDIT/  just saw Jim's post covering some same ground
It sounds like there is a problem soomewhere - have you also considered it might not be actually todo with explorer or your file manager?
Trying out a different shell can be very easy but - me- I cant recommend any

Living Room / [SORTED] how big is a webpage :) broadband - 1 or 10GB?
« Last post by tomos on March 21, 2008, 05:27 AM »
a friend of mine is thinking of getting a broadband connection (via mobile phone network actually)
that offers 1GB per month or 10GB per month
They dont download music or films but will be surfing a bit (average - does that exist :tellme:)
probably the odd YouTube session

I have absolutely no idea - had a look at the software that came with my connection and I seem to be averaging 3GB per week - but I tend to have 60 tabs open in FF and download a bit of software, but no music or films or, eh, anything else..mind you I listen to Last.FM a bit

So wondering have ye any opinions on whether they should go for the 10GB or the 1GB offer -
of course the 1GB is only half the price of the other in spite of being a 1/10th of the usage... :-\

re the beta, have a look at this and following posts from the EverNote beta 2.2.0.372 has some nice new features thread

It seems to be moving towards an online database where you might not even be able to backup to local disk
Nothing "wrong" with that but if you're coming from the current version you very possibly wont be happy with new developments in beta and plans for the programme

Yeah,
I should point out I was mainly concerned with "saving a doc in textmaker and opening it in MS Word"
But as said already I havent really tested/pushed it much

*BUMP*

I'm curious as to how well it writes (and reads) MS Office docs. I mostly use OpenOffice, but seeing as this company claims they have full compatibility with ms office I might be interested. Did any of you try to save documents with several pictures, frame boxes and formatting and then look at it in word?

that's why I got it TucknDar -
I was having trouble with formatting and tables getting messed up going from OOo to Word

I'm very happy with it but I dont put it to much use to be honest -
with tables seems fine, pics I dont know...

I know Darwin had a few reservations about formatting I'm sure he'll post about them..

Anyone here using Inkscape ? -
if so, is that on Windows or Linux (or are there other options :-\)
any comments

I tried it a good while ago (1 and 1/2yrs ago maybe) and it was a challenge to use
was thinking of trying it again but this wasnt over encouraging (see below) although maybe encouraging me to move away from windows :)

Inkscape 0.46-pre3
March 7, 2008

Our third (and probably final) pre-release of Inkscape is available for download.

Unfortunately, we've found that the remainder of our release blocking bugs are Windows-specific issues, but there aren't enough Windows-based developers to solve them all. If you are comfortable programming C/C++ on Windows with Ming32 and are interested in helping ensure the Inkscape Windows port is as stable as on other platforms, we can sure use your help! Review our bug tracker for windows bug priorities and to submit patches. For more information on Inkscape development on Windows, see our Win32Port wiki page.

This is very funny, but I don't speak the language.
Any takers?
One of the best pranks I have ever seen. It’s in German so I’ll explain first. A restroom, a mirror, and a young woman putting on make-up. Only the mirror is not a real mirror, but a sheet of glass.
The restroom on the other side is exactly the same but built in reflection. And the young lady has a twin sister on the other side of the glass. Then other people come in...

wanted to show this to someone, unfortunately the video is removed... copyright I guess :(

Barnacle doesn't work here.

Instead of running it displays the message :

"Could not extract script from EXE"

My OS is Win XP SP2

Can someone help me?

I havent tried it but you could "install" AutoHotKey (it's portable) and
save the AHK script (click the green "H") instead of the EXE
https://www.donation.../index.html#Barnacle

then open the AHK file.
