FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Farr Alias: nircmd alias
« Last post by tomos on May 29, 2008, 02:54 PM »
Sorry, I know this thread is kind of old, but could someone please explain how to install this plugin? It would really help if these things came with readme's...

unzip - the zip has a nircmd folder already in it,
copy that folder into the AliasGroups/Installed directory plugin folder in the FindandRunRobot install folder
hope that makes sense!

Living Room / Re: Shipping outside USA not an option - workaround?
« Last post by tomos on May 29, 2008, 03:15 AM »
For example US Adobe products are not licensed for export to Europe because Adobe sells licenses in Europe.

This probably breaks all sorts of international trade agreements, involves price fixing and is probably 'cartel' activity (which is certainly illegal in the UK) but some companies (Adobe is one - they actually told me they can identify the product source by the serial code) say they will not provide support or upgrades for products purchased outside the license territory.
-Carol Haynes (May 28, 2008, 07:43 PM)

 I'm shocked about Adobe doing that, I was considering doing exactly that, buying in the States or Canada & then "moving" to Europe.
But as Target says this must happen (people moving) & what happens then...

EDIT/off-topic a little- :) -for European companies selling in the States I can understand that they have two different prices, it's a bad time to be selling anything to the US from here now & they have to reduce their $-prices to be competitive in states & probably making little or no profit on those sales. I know someone who's just gone out of business because of it & may have to sell their house.. but ADOBE, that's another story

My favorite NerdCore rapper has been written about several times on DC: MC Chris.
Check out "Fett's Vett" about star wars character Boba Fett, I've still not heard anything better in this genre.

Not quite nerdcore but close, and not to be missed: The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destinty.

really enjoyed both of them

yes, we can see your main hobby on your avatar  :P

BTW: is there any kind of geographic map active, as it formely was?
see https://www.donation...some_geographic.html
was that the frapper map? -
I get a 404 on that link, but the frapper map never worked for me anyways..
It would be nice to see a (more successful) map - anyone any ideas?

General Software Discussion / Re: XPPro SP3
« Last post by tomos on May 27, 2008, 08:28 AM »
I just think in this Internet age, one should be able to buy just a key instead of full CD/DVD(media)+shipping fees etc - wonder what is so vital in getting an actual CD/DVD ? One has to slipstream further patches anyway even to a SP3 CD

I was thinking along the same lines when looking at winXP offers on ebay -
mind you no-one would trust anyone on ebay to simply pay for a number, I wouldnt anyway

Maybe MS dont allow it somehow - after all you need your sticker on your machine :) in case they get a chance to check up on you physically... knock knock:
who's there?

This name business wont go away will it, my suggestion is call it FARR, just FARR, not find and run robot.  Seems to me that the name FARR is probably becoming known, so keep it, and have a little note in the about box or in the help as to its derivation.

agreed (here)

I think the best snapshot/diff tool ATM in the freeware area is SystemExplorer.

http://systemexplorer.mistergroup.org/

When I click on the link, I get redirected to http://www.spywarete...er_id=semain_banner_*GeoUSCA*

that's funny, looks fine here.. (now)

Can anyone recomend economical(low price) online website  where we could just buy a
XP SP3 product key and use it with above (nudone's) ISO link ?

I know there's an offer like that from microsoft for Vista - well, if you have a pirated version you can buy a key (dont know will it only work for pirated versions) - in fact I think I read it's the cheapest way to buy Vista...

Anyone know if that's possible for XP?

(Actually I do know someone who just got a new pc & an aquaintance of theirs put a pirate version of xp on it - they're unable to update & already have major problem with viruses - they havent a clue about computers but at this stage they'll probably have to get the real thing & reinstall)

Living Room / Re: Digital Camera Help
« Last post by tomos on May 24, 2008, 02:59 AM »
I'm not going to be very much help except maybe what to watch out for/avoid

Often a problem with cheaper cameras is with the flash - it often takes up to 10 seconds to recharge - another aspect to consider/check
You'd also want something with Image stabilisation (IS)

I usually go here Imaging-resource/Dave's Picks if researching a camera.
Straight away I see

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H3
8.0 megapixels, 10.00x zoom
   $264.87
Check Prices!
Packed with features, the Sony H3 has a fast shutter, a long zoom, and turns out great 13x19-inch prints... (more)
in the allround section

There's a long zoom section there too
And they do great reviews

Living Room / Re: What annoys you to no end?
« Last post by tomos on May 23, 2008, 04:25 AM »
I know this off-topic but I couldnt stop myself (yes, I'm procrastinating )

Sure, the temperature may have risen on average over the last however many years, but I'm under the impression that that's just natural, periodic heating and cooling of the earth.

@Deozaan,
the problem is: if it continues & we continue contributing to it (which is obviously the case), well, put it this way, if you live near the sea you could be losing your house pretty soon and that might even be the least of your worries.
It could be natural, but we'll still be screwed :)

I've always being pretty sparing (following my parents example I guess) but I got a bit of a shock lately when I got an offer: - if I pay my electricity for the year in one go (an estimated amount which they kept pretty low) I get it at a reduced price per KW
The fact it's estimated & a low estimate at that, has me afraid that I'll get a huge bill at the end of the year for the balance & has made me much more conscious of how wasteful I can be.

What with the cost of these things moneywise & the possible cost of these things environmentwise I think it simply makes sense not to be wasteful or overly extravagant

Also, it's very easy to say they do that why shouldnt I (drive a car that guzzles gas, whatever) - ???? imagine if everyone went for the lowest common demoninater with beliefs & or actions - that would be, eh, interesting!! (I'm not saying you are in general -but- "telling me stay away from airplanes, automobiles, and technology in general and go green, all the while riding private jets across the world to preach global warming" smacks a bit of it)

The final article is up so this is probably irrelevant at this point.. All the people who did vote for FARR had an an impact and brought FARR to light for a lot of people.  I'll make a separate post on the lifehacker article.

No, this still relevant mouser  :tellme:

I remember trying it & something bugging me about it but cant remember what now

A good few mentions of resource hog in connection with it

What is even more beautiful from this tool is that it enables you to include your own registry hack in the GUI. and you can post it on their forum as well so others can use your hack as well. Get it at http://www.x-setup.net.

sounds great Shades

Yes, you are right, tomos: One can change it to whatever encoding, except the one I request: "Auto Detect". Even "Universal" will not display all mails / homepages the same way as the writer intended. But if there is "OFF" - where is then the option to set Auto Detect "ON" ?

sounds like it doesn't exist then (yet?)
or probably more simply that "universal" should do what you want, but doesnt
