try connecting via IP address: http://208.65.153.253

so does that mean the problem is with YouTube's IP or with ours?
Youtubes I presume? - but I just ask cause I've had some problems with phpBB forums caused by my IP provider using different addresses all the time ...

I'll do it this afternoon during my coffee break.

;D [except I'd nearly believe you could Armando] ;D

By the way, what do you people think of my logo?  Don't be afraid to criticize.  I'm just going for a clean, professional look. (see attachment in previous post)
Initially, my slogan was "Only the Good Stuff", but someone said it reminded them of a Kenny Chesney song, which is true.  As I can't stand Kenny CHesney, I had to change it.  "Top of the Line" was a slogan my cousin and I used to say a lot when we were kids and were always trying to find the best things to get.

I like it but somehow it looks funny in situ -
maybe if the red line continued across the page? - I'm no designer - I can spot when something could be better but unfortunately usually dont have a clue how make it better ...

I'm a bit unsure of the flash (is it flash?) thingy, but maybe if the logo was made more dominant in the page it might sort that

Did anyone look at the attachment in my last post, above?  It is a couple of paragraphs clipped directly from the most recent issue of WS and states that ALL of Gizmo's "premium" content - stuff that was formerly only available to premium (read: paying) subscribers to Support Alert - will always be available free in Windows Secrets

I started to reply to that yesterday but got distracted :)
That's good

# Will the Tech Support Alert Website Have Premium Content?
No, all content on Tech Support Alert will now be free and that's the way it will stay. Current premium subscribers to Support Alert Newsletter will have full access to their premium content from the Windows Secrets Web site.
-
So, it sounds like new (paid) stuff will only be available via Windows secrets website ...

I dunno, call me materialistic but
I think I'd donate my 50,000 bucks quicker if I could get something concrete for it (no dead squirrels please Chris :p)

I like the
<mouser> 100,000 = i will come to your house and make homemade lassagne and ice cream
I'm sure mouser would enjoy it too!

unfortunately I dont have the 50,000 or even the price of the flight
Tom racks his brains to think what he could possibly donate that might persuade others to part with their 50,000 ...

it loads,
starts to play (without sound) but stops after a couple of seconds or less
clicking play/pause makes no difference
it plays okay this morning  :-\
sound problem was a problem with my pc

have the problem again now after pc going to sleep
(or did I hibernate it..- no just sent it to sleep, definitely)

so it seems like a local problem here - something that affects flash player I presume?
but flash has different "installs" for different browsers - doesnt it?
so it's affecting them all...

[edit - with apologies to papoj1 for veering off topic
we could always move to the thread where I ranted about soundcard drivers cause it could be related
see (rant) updating drivers :( / whatever :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Harvest the Web with OutWit (Firefox)

http://www.outwit.co...7-b579-0f2eee222ad1}

So, what is OutWit, in a word?

OutWit is a Web collection engine for everyone. It runs on your Windows, MacOS or Linux machine and allows you to browse through and easily grab information, images, contacts or files from the Internet, in a few clicks.

The question, when looking for anything on the Internet, is two-fold: find the pertinent data and make it usable for your purposes. Both processes can prove extremely time-consuming and both can be vastly improved using OutWit Hub. Originally conceived for researchers and data managers, the program is bringing Web scraping tools to everyone for both business and personal use.

Just browse the Web for pages that include the information you are looking for; OutWit will scan the pages to recognize the data structure and format it into tables, allowing you to rate it and easily export it to files, spreadsheets or databases for later use.
sounds very interesting

Just to make things easier, they are only the programs that you find in your START menu so you can easily just click the very top level and then click allow.
That's what I was hoping for but didnt manage to figure out :tellme:
The logical route would be to be able to allow all & then select anything you want to block - true there shouldnt be anything there to block but gotta admit I didnt recognise one or two things there ..

After install, on the programs tab it showed programs -as you say- in the start menu, but it also often showed the parent folder (occasionally showing e.g. an uninstall.exe as well) i.e. a two level tree
When I "Allowed" the parent folder the contents of same were NOT automatically allowed

When I look at the tab now it only shows the software (links) no parent folders - probably cause most are already allowed?
Anyways, it's setup now :D
9338
well I'm using this occasionally but only today I've noticed it stops the winkey from launching the start menu -
it works normally but doesnt work when draglock is running :(

So far I've used it as I was saying above, when printing for panning "large(-er than page size) image & you have the option to pan the print-view" - so that the prints will line up.
For this I can start & close script after so this problem doesnt actually bother me much

And there's a second page! Whoa.

via the comments:-
PPLandry (dc member/author of SQLNotes) has put
this list in an online spreadsheet, with read/write access to all, as in this one where I’ve imported the original list:

Anybody can add/edit the info, sort, etc

I'm trying out Online Armor (free version) after a long spell with just windows firewall

Setting it up after install was a pain - it lists all your programmes and asks you to approve them individually
"individually" means you cant select more than one at a time - I tell a lie, you can use Ctrl+click to select more than one but it's still painfully slow (think I gotta uninstall lots from this pc :))

There's still lots of popups but they're reducing in quantity very quickly = I'm happy so far :)

Living Room / [rant] updating drivers :(
« Last post by tomos on July 23, 2008, 05:20 PM »
after a crash which ms helpfully(?) suggested may be to do with sounds,
I go to control panel "Sounds & Audio devices"
find driver tab for sounds under hardware,
click "update driver"
get a wizard, option to connect to windows update, nothing helpful there (what do they have to do with my sound card?)
- how am I supposed to go from here  :-\

it's no wonder that I spent 4 years without sounds on my last computer *
I dont know if this a microsoft interface problem or a problem with my sound card software -terratec- appalling website as I recall but I'll have to go there next in spite of downloading all their software last time & starting anything I could find & looking for a simple UPDATE button
[grumpyguts=me - should just go off to bed :-[]

I tell ye, if I ever got involved in working with software/computers, where I'd like to work most would be with interface but I suspect if I worked in a large company I'd die from lack of job satisfaction

* thanks to Brandon for resolving that for me, but, there comes a time when you (I) gotta stand up on (my) own two feet & say wtf or something along those lines

anyone using it for backup / versioning of files?

it claims to just update the difference to a file (partial file update) and at the same time keep a version of file for each change (for each save presumably)
Would that be a bit like incremental imaging in Acronis TI for example:-
saves file
saves changes
saves changes
etc
(not sure what happens there if part of file is deleted? presumably that part simply marked for deletion . not important anyways)

advantages:
less bandwith used - less S3 space to pay for

disadvantages(?):
not sure how secure/successful this would be - seems like a lot more chance of something going wrong if merging a file with 20 incremental updates (of course they could be differential, I'm not sure...)

thought this was interesting
from Amazon

We wanted to share a brief note about what we observed during yesterday's event and where we are at this stage. As a distributed system, the different components of Amazon S3 need to be aware of the state of each other. For example, this awareness makes it possible for the system to decide to which redundant physical storage server to route a request. In order to share this state information across the system, we use a gossip protocol. Yesterday, we experienced a problem related to gossiping our internal state information, leaving the system components unable to interact properly and causing customers' requests to Amazon S3 to fail. After exploring several alternatives, we determined that we had to temporarily take the service offline so that we could clear all gossipped state and restart gossip to rebuild the state.

These are sophisticated systems and it generally takes a while to get to root cause in such a situation. We're working very hard to do this and will be providing more information here when we've fully investigated the incident. We also wanted to let you know that for this particular event, we'll be waiving our standard SLA process and applying the appropriate service credit to all affected customers for the July billing period. Customers will not need to send us an e-mail to request their credits, as these will be automatically applied. This transaction will be reflected in our customers' August billing statements.
