« Last post by tomos on February 20, 2009, 04:48 AM »
I am back with another one that's off the beaten path...
wow, he's good.
I really liked his Not Dark Yet which seems to have been written by someone else on youtube [here]
Does some nice original stuff too

I especially enjoyed this one - Trace Bundy & Sungha Jung - somehow I found the interaction very moving as well

not wanting to spoil app's surprise above :-)

Oh goody, weird videos.

LOL Edvard - on both counts!

I really enjoyed the Mogwai one Deo, great track. Here's another one from them We're no Here with a very professional video of some french people on a cycling tour in the Himalayas - which actually go quite well together

40hz Headshrinker sorry, Shrink to the OS's

re Apple's smartness: I think they try to make things easy for the end user (do they succeed? - I don't know, I dont have one :P )
I wish more windows software & MS would try to follow that ideal ...

Looked and worked beautifully out of the box

on wondows?

I usually indicate where I've edited. However, if I post something and then 30 seconds later realise that I've made an embarrassing spelling mistake, used a split infinitive, or made an error in logic and can edit it and repost less than a minute after having posted it, I don't bother...
that's what I meant to say :)
if I edit within the minute or if it's very minor edit (I often edit formatting or "layout" to make it look nicer :-[ ) I wont bother saying

That would serve a chronic 'edit'er like me well, too. But I can imagine someone posting an elaborate reply only to find out that the OP was edited enough in the meantime to make the reply redundant. A versioning system would be the best (though somewhat complex to implement?) solution.

Most people indicate where they edit - of course this can get complex if it's a post you edit multiple times but that's usually fairly rare ...

Eudora will sort by name, and within names it sorts by date, so you have an alphabetical list of email that is sorted by name and date.
(I hope that made sense)
-laughinglizard (February 17, 2009, 09:57 PM)

not only makes sense, I've wished for it on many occasions ;)

EDIT:-
TBird does actually sort by chosen column AND by date but you cant choose the second column by which you would like to sort

Thanks for the reply, but I haven't a clue how to deal with code.  I just use 'em.  I don't know what makes them run.
it's actually quite easy this one (I only know the easy stuff ;)) instead of getting it compiled you can:

if you dont have AutoHotKey, get that and install it (or just get the zip file on same page & unzip - both portable far as I know)  http://www.autohotkey.com/download/

Save Skrommels code using Notepad or other text editor - the code hidden by the spoiler - may as well save it as the name he gives it GreenOSD.ahk (you've got to add the ahk suffix your self) preferably in your AutoHotKey scripts folder:-
~\AutoHotkey\Extras\Scripts
open/double click saved AHK file - that's it, it's running

For a long time now, I've used underscore to start some folder names
e.g.
_Documentation

I'm currently having trouble with two apps Textmaker 2008 and Directory Opus 8
They both take an age to open either files or folders

  • Textmaker takes 40 seconds to open a file from in one of these folders via Win.Explorer or Dir.Opus
  • Dir.Opus also takes an age to open one of these folders via context menu (Explore or Open) - Win.Explorer doesnt have this problem

Any ideas ?
I guess I could try a restart ...

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: I love the Bulk Rename Utility!
« Last post by tomos on February 17, 2009, 05:48 AM »
I think you must have missed the previous couple of posts there BrotherS

Posted by Jim Willsher on Sunday, 4th May 2008 at 12:02PM

For anyone who doesn't frequent the forum, I announced a few weeks ago that Bulk Rename Utility had reached the end of its development lifecyle, and that the current release would be the final release. This news item confirms that statement.

Support will continue to be available for the product until the end of 2008.

Living Room / Re: Crazy brits crossing railroads
« Last post by tomos on February 15, 2009, 01:37 PM »
For the looks of it, the railways goes straight, and unless there was a serious curve a bit before the barriers, you can clearly see the train coming if you look at the right.

but he obviously didnt look and you dont actually hear the train until it quite close - especially if it's going fast - and if there's a breeze going in the opposite direction you've even less chance of hearing it.
With peripheral vision you see mostly movement and because the train is coming directly towards there's actually very little actual visible movement

I know all this cause I went out in front of a train once :-[ but nothing as bad as that guy, it was maybe 20-30m away as I actually crossed the tracks (an official crossing with no barriers) BUT I didnt notice it until I was actually stepping onto the tracks at which point I can tell you I speeded up a bit!

...and now everybody has signatures :)

no I dont :P

I got that mail (and another a while ago) but both had my customer number so I didnt post
If you have had an older version of Ashampoo Office or Softmaker Office you should get this mail

If you dont have an older version I suspect you could well be throwing your money away

General Software Discussion / Re: PDF creation command line tool -- Does one exist?
« Last post by tomos on February 12, 2009, 03:56 AM »
pdftk
I have it with a GUI but it is a command line tool (cant remember does it come with GUI)

PDFTK can do all sorts of things with pre-existing PDFs, but I don't think it has PDF creation capability.  It's a command-line tool.  The GUI is a third-party addon, which, last time I looked, didn't cover all of PDFTK's features, just the most common ones.

thanks rj - you just beat me to it re it not being the tool for this job
