Coding Snacks / [Solved] A sand clock
« Last post by Contro on September 29, 2017, 02:30 PM »
Nany 2018 idea.

A sand clock.
Configurable count back time. For example 25 minutes.
When the count finish give an auditive warning . But don't lose the focus. Even is configuration consist in activate a warning window or emerging window. The sound or warning configurable.
Each time after that, if the user don't abandon pc work repeat the alarm sound every time, or the visual warning. For example if you configurate repeat the alarm every five minutes, the new alarm will sound every five minutes.
When I come back to the pc the program is able to recognize real keypressing or mouse movings. Then the time will began to count down again. The clock will put itself down to up again.

I haven't seen this in all the pommodoro technique software. I think this is simpler and give freedom in the rest period. The important thing is abandon the pc for a while and fight the sedentary life.

Do not trust and do not take risks. Assure the operation by reviewing it as if you were not a computer engineer or a software engineer.

In other professional forums I love they forgot the elemental steps and lose the security copy, or make errors than now we are regretting.

Guys, the Redmi has notification when you exceed your data bundle, but nothing for call minutes! Any idea?

I think exist software en google play for this .
This evening I am looking for notifications off, and silent pc because too many notifications.
Sure you can control your waste with software, or here in Tenerife you can talk with your supplier to limit or receive alarms .

Best Regards

Ios to Android ?

Here in Tenerife I have heard that nobody come back from the apple world to windows or android again.....

I think you need in deep your decision....

I think I said already that my model is Xiaomi Redmi Pro 3 International Version.
I flashed to MIUI 8.1 but still very buggy, apps make it crash and when in silent mode apps are not heard, while switching back to normal mode apps are still not heard.

I had all the good intent, but how can they ship something in such a buggy state?

OK, then if hardware is fine, will these EU roms be the solution?
I have friend buy very cheap from China, but then they can't call anyone for a different system or come interface in chinese.

Redmi and Xiaomi have very good local support here and perhaps the times when I compare the samsung S4 with the chinese options have change a lot.

I don't doubt you can change everything waiting, but meanwhile you have put the money in advance.

thanks but I don't want to root my phone

if I root it, all my banking apps do not work, but MobileIron doesn't work so I cannot have access to my work emails!
I root my samsung S4 device and have to come back again.
I don't like root anymore.
root for what ? To change the MAC ? To make special security image copies ? . Probably this is not necessary with cloud services and ordinary backups....

I don't trust alibaba to buy from there, I used in the past a similar chinese bullsht called ioffer or something and I lost my money! absolutely no protection or customer support!

I haven't had any problems.  Did you look at the seller reviews?  And you can initiate a dispute- they have a process.  And I used it in one case, and it worked.

it's too risky
the item is in turkey, they have no idea if it works in uk
Here in Canary Island we have a tax : IGIC
And is an importation from the exterior.
Ordinarily the waste of the Adoune is surprising high .
Only if I can make the dispatch may be rentable.
On the other hand if I buy local probably the price is better and I have the support and advice from the local dealer.

The only advantage here to buy on internet is that you can select exactly the model you want, but in my case I will have to wait weeks or pay the urgency and more high price.

And if the package is lost, or delayed, or arrive broken I will have several months without the device....

Only in very cheap products I can afford this.

Only buy a phone with the Android-based MIUI OS, (eg. XIAOMI), if you're willing to install another firmware, perform extensive setting modification, or willing to put up with chronic privacy invasion - FWIW, I have a XIAOMI Redmi Note 2 running non-standard firmware.

I recommend you get a phone with a Qualcomm processor, (ie. SnapDragon SoC), not MTK, as it is better supported by third party firmware, eg. CyanogenMod, and you'll get Android version updates a lot faster.

Besides that, you haven't said anything about your other needs, ie. Dual (4G) SIM, microSD, HD/FHD, battery life, network coverage, etc, etc.

XIAOMI just released the Redmi Note 3 Special Edition which has world-wide 4G band coverage, (and there's a CyanogenMod version available to install with a little fiddling).

Since you're in the UK: WileyFox

I am about to buy Xiaomi RedMi Note 3, but it doesn't have removable battery! that is a major con because after few months/years the battery loses its performance and needs replacement!
Not necessarily. I have friends with the sealed battery with no problems for years.
Only if you need more energy have an external one or a supplementary battery to feed the internal one.

Nowadays if you want a good device you have to submit to the sealed battery technology. It's an imposition of highest quality devices......

And of course that seal is not a warrant of impermeability or going with the mobile under the water....

Hello!

I need a new smartphone with:
1) 3GB at least RAM as my 2GB Note2 struggles
2) good screen view under sunlight
3) good removable battery life

Can you suggest me any?
Is any of these any good? http://www.ebay.co.u...p;rt=nc&LH_BIN=1
Are Lenovo good? Any specific?

Btw, they must be good quality, not falling apart, bad voice quality, etc.

thanks!
Features 2) and 3) are the most difficult ones.

In my ebook reader I see all under the sun. In mobiles is an pending matter....
But last models have an option to see in black and white that improve the thing. And the nits have improved too from my old Samsung S4
I think is one of the most important features that makers don't publicity too much because the technology have not solved well the feature until this moment....

The feature 3 is relative too. Now all the superior class of mobiles have the battery sealed . And are removable but under certain conditions. Ordinarily is necessary use the technical assistant because the need to open the device for changing the battery. It's a sort of termal seal to protect the device against water and dust. But sure limits your possibility to change easily the battery or have another battery as I use with the samsung S4.

 :-\

Note : one of the features I will care in my next device is the camera.

The camera with two lenses are my prefered. More stability and possibility to obtain better images.

You might try: SpiceWorks. On the site: SharewareOnSale  there was an offer of a similar type of software too. Maybe those software packages can accomplish your plan with your hardware/software/network setup.
SpiceWorks sounds me a lot.

Thanks !

General Software Discussion / Pommodoro Technique for special cases
« Last post by Contro on September 29, 2017, 03:11 AM »
I presume i am a special case.
I am using Instant Boss and I have lost 2000 grams until this moment.
I like this system. Specially in sedentary works like mine.
Revising I don't remember any program that does what exactly I want.

What do I want ?

Something like Instant Boss but without the emerging window and focus lost.
proactive and remembering with sounds. Forcing to interrupt the work but without loosing focus...
Perhaps with command voice interaction...
Impossible to forget the presence of the program : With Instant Boss when I enter in "my inspirational moments" I forgot completely.... But I don't want the forcing loosing the focus. It make me vey angry....  >:(

Whether ManageEngine is good software to manage your computer network, I don't know. But I do know that this product is already available for years, so it will have its uses.

Still, I think it is way overkill for home use. And as you ask about Domains, it would be safe to assume you don't have such a system deployed at home. Not a bad thing, because the average home network consist of 2 or3 computers, perhaps a tablet or two and a few phones. Not worth the costs and hassle to set up a domain for that.

Very simply stated: a Domain (in the context of the ManageEngine software) contains at least one computer that acts as a Domain Controller and often lots and lots of other computers, that all can be managed/configured from the Domain Controller. And if you don't run any Server edition of Windows anywhere in your network, you won't have a Domain.

The ManageEngine software is really intended for companies that do have a network managed by one or more Windows-based Domain Controllers.

Alternatives for this type of software that are intended for small networks at home, I do not know. Perhaps a search on website: https://alternativeto.net/ will work out for you.
I only have windows 8.1
the pc
the laptop or portatile
the mobile under android
the ebook kindle
I work alone. (sometimes in collaborations....)

This morning I finished the Duolingo english course.
I thought that when finished will begin another with more contents. But now I only can learn other languages.
I have 5083 EXP and 73% fluency or something similar.
I lack for more material. I am studying english quotes (Albert Einstein is the first).
Also try to write in this forum is an importance practice.
Reading books and searching for words with dictionary.exe ( The information by Martin Amis was the first , and recently finished Fear and Tremblings by Amelie Nothomb)
The word of the day from several web pages.  [1] [2][3][4]
The forum I am using some years ago is WordReference

I would like additionally something free and interactive or easy.

Like

https://www.randomlists.com/things

Other resources I am using are :
examples-finder
Mobysaurus Thesaurus (you can download in DC)
WordWeb free edition
Learning English reading The Bible
and two dictionaries that came with the kindle ebook device.

And the most important tool I need :

English Grammar with testing. That I can select a special feature and go deep.
Basically I need now a lot more of theory. English Grammar Free Trainer. Practice English Grammar.  :-*

I receive an email in one of my accounts with the link to download this program from manageengine.com

The first thing seems to ask me is a domain. I think I haven't because I use blogs from blogger and wordpress.

Do you know this program ?

Do you think is good ?

Seems a good program.
Running to try !
I am using Everything. What's the difference ?

 :-*

Hi,

I don't understand what you mean by "using Everything".
Can you explain?
Sorry Hugo.

Anandcoral is right !

What is the advantage with your program don't using the indexing ?

I suppose is for computer not very powerful. I have an i7 processor and 32 GB RAM.

Nevertheless your program is installed and trying.

Best Regards

I don't know Everything and don't use it, but I have looked it description.

I have already explain this a couple of posts back, programs like Everything, UltraSearch, etc require administration rights on the computer and work only on NTFS partition.
This may work if you are a home user with only one computer and only NTFS partitions.
If you have several computer shares, NAS systems, FAT32 disks, SD  cards, some USB disks you cannot use them and need a program like CSearcher or similar programs, also if you don't have admin rights on the computer (like many office workers) you can't use Everything or similar programs.

You have explained perfectly well to me why i am using CSearcher

Best Regards

The menu is done !

Some run command don't seem to work under AHK like : documents , videos, pictures, bluetooth file transfer, create a system repair disk, default location, font viewer, dvdmake, journal, recdisc, collab.cpl and a few others.

Some are solved too. Like documents, videos, pictures and all the ones relating to opening folders in my system.

I download also StockFish https://stockfishchess.org/download/ , but I don't know how to manage

Note : It seemed I will need something else : What you're getting: just the Stockfish engine. You will need to use your own UCI-compatible chess program.

What is it ?

Something like cleanDocs I'm guessing.

Cheap Windows alternative: Remove Personal metadata from Files to Protect Your Privacy

Which is unfortunately very limited in what it will remove.

There's also MAT which supports a few formats.
It's perfect but free.

I have today connection to sourceforge and find this

Absolution
DocInfoRetriever
Exiftool  for PDF

I have to try to see if really are useful.
