I've used this little program with great success in the past. I've recently installed it again after formatting my computer and now I can't seem to get it to do any organizing..The destination folder remains empty every time. I've set my Source and Destination folders and selected a Template. That's ll thats really required to make it function, right? Also those input preferences never save when the program is closed and reopened. What am I missing?

It sounds like you're running it from a UAC protected folder.  If that's the case, you have two choices:

  • Run the application with administrator rights.
  • Move the application to a non-UAC protected folder and run it from there.

Please let me know if that solves the issue you're having.   :)

As sImgurUploader stands now, there is no way it is going to work with the new API.  If I can find the time (won't be for several weeks at least), I can look into updating it for the new API.

Hi, Burnsy, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :Thmbsup:

Hey skwire. I've been looking for a banking program like this to help keep track of my finances. Does your program work with Windows 10 and does it still work?

I've never used Windows 10 but I would think that sCheckbook will work fine under it.

Can you try running that CHM with admin rights?
831
Just installed Splat on Windows 10 (which I'm trying to like) and was looking for help in the programs help section but there's nothing there yet.
Is it possible to launch volume controls (increase, decrease, mute)?

The help file is named Splat.chm and should be in the same folder as Splate.exe (please try mouser's fix above if you have trouble viewing it).  Regarding volume controls, no, there are none in Splat currently.

Is there any chance you could create an option to use .7z format (7zip) to Spinzip?  If you don't want to pollute spinzip then maybe fork over another app called "Spin7zip"?  Pretty pretty please?!
  I have found for almost all applications .7z is far superior in compression to regular zip and it would be so darn useful and appreciated.

I agree with you about 7zip's performance.  However, please see my comment on this post:

Can the available options be made configurable?

Will do and thank you for the donation.  Much appreciated.   :)

Hi, jwb7605 & shawnboy99, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :D

SLICK program.   :Thmbsup:
I added some locations where other people I know live, works fine.
ONLY complaint is that when I click for a "forecast", it always comes up at my location.
That's probably because I have "location" enabled, and Yahoo! forecasts aren't being called with proper arguments.

Apologies for the late reply.   :-[  I have confirmed this and I will fix it.

Great program! Ran into an issue with weather for Djibouti. There are multiple locations for the place, and all displayed NA, they're however shown on Yahoo.

For whatever reason, it looks like the Yahoo Weather API entries for Djibouti are not working:

http://weather.yahoo...recastrss?w=23424797
http://weather.yahoo...orecastrss?w=2345158
http://weather.yahoo...orecastrss?w=1310941

Compare that to Codyville, Maine, for instance:

http://weather.yahoo...orecastrss?w=2382514

Unfortunately, there isn't much I'm going to be able to do about this.   :(

« Last post by skwire on December 30, 2015, 12:24 AM »
NANY 2016 Entry Information

Application Name sTray
Supported OSes Windows XP/7/8 (Probably works, but not tested on, Windows Vista/10)
Web Page Website
Download Link Download
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
Tiny, tray-based utility that gives you a completely configurable menu for quick access to:

  • Shutdown
  • Restart
  • Switch user
  • Log off
  • Lock
  • Sleep
  • Hibernate
  • Start screensaver
  • Turn monitor off
  • Switch default printer

I use Microsoft’s Remote Desktop (RDP) a lot for the various computers and VMs that I deal with. RDP works great but has one drawback and that is, for whatever reason Microsoft has, the normal shutdown and reboot commands are missing from the Start Menu when you’re working on a computer remotely. Yes, you can use the shutdown command via the commandline or you can click the taskbar and press Alt-F4, etc, but not everybody is comfortable using the commandline or remembers that hotkey. Hence, this simple utility.

Usage
Installation
Download the zip file and extract its contents into a new folder.  Run sTray.exe to start the application and right-click the tray icon to see the menu.  Under the Options menu, you can have it add a shortcut to your startup folder.

Uninstallation
Exit the application and delete the folder you unzipped it to.  The application doesn't write any of its settings to the registry.

So I went ahead and tried it, and although a little sleepy I got their in the end, was having issues with sPath syntax. I have now added multiple replacements as I realised I hade used more than one coding. Many thanks for your help.

Great to hear.  Thank you for the donation as well.  Much appreciated.

Hi, unc0nnected, and welcome to the DonationCoder website.   :Thmbsup:

Was surprised to find a bit of functionality missing, specifying the filename of the playlists based on customized variables such as Artist, Album, Folder, etc etc.

While I won't argue with you that sPlaylistMaker is pretty simplistic, please keep in mind that it was written as Unicode-capable clone of the following app: http://lostfound.raum108.de/create_m3u/

If I'm not mistaken, I think the following app will cover your custom variable needs: http://www.oddgravity.de/app-opc.php

Please test this AutoHotkey snippet on some copies of your files first.  Change the variables as needed.

Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. ; DO NOT put this script in the same folder as the files to be renamed.
  2.
  3. ; Variables.
  4. bRecursive := FALSE           ; Change to TRUE if desired.
  5. sPath      := "c:\tmp\11\*.*" ; Change as necessary.
  6.
  7. ; Process files.
  8. Loop, % sPath, 0, % bRecursive ; Iterate over files.
  9. {
  10.     ; Crack filepath.
  11.     SplitPath, A_LoopFileFullPath, OutFileName, OutDir, OutExtension, OutNameNoExt, OutDrive
  12.
  13.     If InStr( OutFileName, " [PLACEHOLDER]" ) ; If " [PLACEHOLDER]" exists in filename.
  14.     {
  15.         ; Strip out " [PLACEHOLDER]" text from original filename.
  16.         StringReplace, OutNameStripped, OutNameNoExt, %A_Space%[PLACEHOLDER],
  17.
  18.         ; Create zero-byte file with new name & extension.
  19.         FileAppend, % "", % OutDir . "\" . OutNameStripped . ".placeholder"
  20.
  21.         ; If new file creation was successful, delete original placeholder file.
  22.         If ! ( ErrorLevel )
  23.         {
  24.             FileDelete, % A_LoopFileFullPath
  25.         }
  26.     }
  27. }
  28.
  29. MsgBox, Done.

842
Why would you want to create filenames in advance if they differ from the filename to be used eventually?

It sounds like his current files DO reserve space (probably with random file data...doesn't matter how, really) and he wants to reclaim the space, but still keep a record, by making the new placeholder file (with a slightly different name) zero-byte.
843
I have in multiple directories on a drive with files I once created as placeholders for later replacement with the correct file, and also reserving physical drive space.

They are identified in the name by " [PLACEHOLDER]"

What I am trying to do is bring all these files down to Zero Byte.

Then change the file type whatever it may be to ".placeholder"

Then remove " [PLACEHOLDER]" from the filename

An all in one solution would be great, but I can achieve the last two with Bulk Rename Utility in a couple of passes, so not a major issue.

Any thoughts.

To confirm:

1) You have files like with "[PLACEHOLDER]" somewhere in the name, e.g., myfile [PLACEHOLDER].ext
2) These files currently occupy some amount of space, i.e., they're non-zero byte files.
3) Assuming the filename in #1, you want it to be: myfile.placeholder
4) You then want this new file to be zero-byte.  Basically, create myfile.placeholder as zero-byte and, if successful, delete the original myfile [PLACEHOLDER].ext

Correct?

Looks good here :up:
...

Agreed; looking quite nice.   :)

now all I need is an icon editor :-[

I've used Greenfish Icon Editor Pro for many years now.  It's free and you can find it here: http://greenfishsoftware.blogspot.com/2012/07/greenfish-icon-editor-pro.html
Another good, free option is the last freeware version of IcoFX.  You can find that version here: http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page40.html#IcoFX

What kind of switches are they?  Can you access them via CLI over Telnet/SSH?  Any reason you need to bounce them regularly?

Hi, drumbeats1, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.   :)

Is there a way to notify me of or skip songs I already own and have sorted? Currently it files them in the correct folder with the file I already have with a bracketed number but I don't want to have to perform search for all files with the bracketed number then delete them every time I add large amounts of music.

I'm not quite sure I understand you.  When you add new music, are you adding from a different folder than the destination (your final music folder, I presume)?  Or, are you adding the new music the eventual destination and then constantly re-sorting the whole destination folder?

« Last post by skwire on December 18, 2015, 04:56 PM »
After more experimenting, I found out that moving the exe or renaming the folder it was in only solved the slow start on the first run. All subsequent start times went back to 44 seconds again. I have done nothing else since.  Then yesterday comes Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3124200). So far, ever since that update was installed, epCheck starts in about 2 seconds each and every time.

I have no idea what was going on but thought I would give this info in case it helps anyone else.

Don't you hate screwy crap like that?   >:(  At any rate, thanks for reporting back!

I just tried copying the config file and the data folder to the different folder as well. And now it still opens in just 2 seconds! I don't get what is going on but it looks like using a different folder solves the problem.

That's really odd.  Maybe some data couldn't be read previously?  Is it possible that you're having HDD/SSD issues?
