Google has disabled Picasa's ability to upload / download / sync photos to google photo.

The Picasa Desktop application will no longer support uploading or downloading photos and videos, creating online albums, or deleting online photos, videos and albums (see our update in the blog post here). If you try to upload or download, you may see something like:

    “Failed to download album list”
    “Error: Failed to retrieve URL for upload”
    “Error: Request failed”
    The upload manager staying at 0% progress

If you want to upload photos and videos to Google Photos, you can use Backup and Sync at photos.google.com/apps.

Are you sure you don't want an online backup service?  Not only does it do most of what you want, and the user doesn't have to worry about managing "where" the files are stored; and you don't have to worry about an hd crash losing then.

they do do some work with very large files (GIS). But then most good online-backup will do block level backup (or whatever you want to call it).

General Software Discussion / Backup Software recommendations 2018?

Looking for 2018 recommendations (for someone else**) for backup software -- by that I mean software that can do:

• versioning
• zip the backed up files
• do scheduled backups
• ideally one that can monitor important folders for changes
• ideally one that can do partial file backup (block level / delta)
• I suppose ability to somehow backup online is important these days

** The user is not basic, but I was slow to recommend Syncovery, what I use, because of it being quite complicated at times (I find). But maybe the good ones have to be complicated?

So all the rest of you can read this thread on the https site? If so, what happens to the images in my signature? I don't get any notice or prompt to allow non-https content. I just get automatically redirected to the fully non-https site when reading threads.

by default the resolution is set to a lower resolution like 2560 x 1440.  They end up paying extra for something that they will never use.

Not only that but when I got my 4k monitor I figured if I didn't like it I could set set the resoltution lower to something closer to what I was used to -- but the problem was the image was horribly fuzzy at lower resolutions.

I think changing the default resolution of a monitor is always going to be a poor second-best. (There may be exceptions out there.)

'Cowboy'. Again missed the beginning; well acted, gripping, I enjoyed it.
