I'd thought I'd like it (Helvetimail) but I actually found it harder to read than the straight-forward minimalist theme (not sure what the font there is?)

not me -- i prefer the plain minimalist windows 2000 (Windows Classic) theme.  makes me feel all calm inside :)
I had the same thoughts for years but since I found SlanXP2 theme I changed my mind...
-fenixproductions (October 07, 2009, 12:16 PM)
SlanXP2 theme looks good,
maybe a bit dark for my taste http://lassekongo83..../SlanXP-2-0-51492944

I usually use the classic theme as well - but I dont like the default grey especially, and I tend to mess around with the colours on top every now & again

have you had a look at the comparison page -
I dont use UR myself but it looks to me like the Pro version has a lot of worthwhile advantages.

Oh wow, sorry. The script I had up accidentally had the bottom cut off, fixed that. I also re-uploaded the new SuperClick EXE, so it's using Right Shift now, too.

thanks :)

Overall, the company is a leading proponent of scareware for their registry cleaner garbage.
-Steven Avery (June 17, 2009, 05:04 AM)

Last week I was checking out csrss.exe (cant remember why but unimportant here anyway)
Uniblue's site first of all says it's a trojan and that it should be removed:

1) csrss.exe is a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.
Then they offer a scan,
and only then do the let us know that it's removal will probably cause BSOD's (sounds like it might cause a lot worse even!)

2) The Microsoft Client Server Runtime Server subsystem utilizes the process csrss.exe for managing the majority of the graphical instruction sets under the Microsoft Windows operating system. As such Csrss.exe provides the critical functions of the operating system, and its termination can result in the Blue Screen of Death being displayed [etc.]
(my emphasis)

This from a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner (whatever that means...)

one more question :-\

First a summary:
1) there is onboard sound on the mobo but when I got the PC I got a cheap soundcard put in it.
2) soundcard driver is (I believe) causing trouble (and always has).
3) I disabled soundcard driver/software (can't figure now how to get the onboard hardware working)

the question is - will I have to open the box & disconnect the soundcard (or do anything else?) before the mobo sounds can be made to work ?
thanks for any help :-*

I'm a little confused, Tomos. You say there are CMedia audio drivers installed on your system, but keep saying you have a Realtek soundcard. Those are two different companies & a Realtek soundcard isn't going to use CMedia drivers.

apologies for the confusion - the soundcard is TerraTec (I got it wrong earlier)
The onboard sound on the mobo is from Realtek

I tried what 40hz suggested & disabled the Terratec drivers and have yet to reboot
8212
it has directed my towards an Audio driver

I've had numerous problems with RealTek High Definition Audio drivers at various times.

Usually occurred right after I loaded a "recommended" update.

Might try rolling them back if you've recently updated.

I thought it actually was a realtek sound card I have that I have never been happy with (I could remove the card & use onboard sound but dont like messing with (=opening) the machine).
but I'm not sure:

The problem file is:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\cmaudio.sys
version is  5.12.01.0646

It's not quite clear - various sites say it's a soundcard driver, e.g. here

cmedia is here:
http://www.cmedia.com.tw/drivers.html

[edit] added corrected :-[ the version number
[edit2] there doesnt appear to be a more recent version, I presume it's related to the Realtek soundcard, which hasnt had any updates since I installed the already old driver from cd that came with it (2 years ago now I think..)
[edit3] times like this I hate computers :( - it could be the first offer on the list in the cmedia page linked to above. I might do a backup(=image) and try it out...

unfortunately in my case I had an error report for the Dr.Watson debugger last year - MS's 'solution' was to disable it - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949820 (I remember at the time it was seizing up and created a multi GB log file).
That means I dont have any reports in BlueScreenView since May 2008 :(
- still, it has directed my towards an Audio driver so I'll have to check that out..

It that was the message it is more than likely a faulty driver.

If you want to track down past BSODs try http://www.nirsoft.n...lue_screen_view.html which allows you to look at past BSODs and lists the drivers involved.

I have found this incredibly useful for troubleshooting.

I made a thread about that cause I'm going to have some related queries :) (but need sleeep now...)

- it appears you can use it for past crashes - must try it out here, I have an occasional problem with some driver (thanks!)

okay german addresses working now
as said above the 'state' is unimportant here (it's never used as such) - I just mentioned it cause googlemap used to use it (at times at any rate) & I thought that might have been related to problem of saving german sites.

Is there a way to know if a marked site is "Private Location (viewed by you only)" without going into edit mode ? (if not would be helpful)

The links at the top and bottom are hard to read (Home, etc.)

I dont have a problem with most sites I visit so I dont think it's anything todo with screen resolution

When I change country the States option doesnt change (remains at the N.Ameerican options) - I think that might be the problem. The State ('Bundesland') is actually unimportant here.

Here's a german shop address (address checked in google map)
Karstadt
Fackelrondell 1,
67655 Kaiserslautern

The 'state' is
Rheinland-Pfalz  =  Rhineland-Palatinate (English version)
but note that this is never used in the (postal) address

Website:
  • Links are almost unreadable here due to combo of very small font size and bold formatting.
  • I find it initially confusing - dont know where to go, what to click in order to get going.
  • How about if you had an "Add new place" link on first page (after login) -
I havent actually saved any thing yet & realise I can have many maps but the "Add new place" link could bring you initally to the "My Places" page where presumably you would select your map or make a new one (correct me if wrong)

Ah, it only works for N.America?
I added a marker & tried giving it City & Country (Germany) but that didnt work.
Also tried adding a German address - no joy there either.

yes, very nice idea Veign

I was wondering:
could it be possible to add things that arent shown on google maps?
i.e. I find the location on the map and mark it manually?
e.g. I live in the woods - I could recommend a lot of places to go that dont have addresses as such :)

Re navigation:
with google maps (in FF) I can use Ctrl+mousewheel to zoom in on the map  - this makes navigation very easy.
I dont know how they do that because in FF Ctrl+Wheel normally zooms the whole page - if you could get it to work, the google maps way would be great.

When I say coffee addict.. I mean it

I didnt even know you could buy unroasted coffee beans lol

I enjoy the occasional expresso (sometimes I mix decaf & 'normal' coffees), also the occasional black tea, otherwise I usually drink water, herbal teas or beer.

After I gave up cigarettes I drank various sweet carbonated drinks for years - similar oral kick, hits you in the back of the throat - funny, even though I get a wonderful kick from black tea (hits the back of the throat. big sigh. tension released you didnt even know you had..) - while at times I would say I wuz hooked, I never drank a whole lot of the stuff (i.e. couldnt do without the cuppa in the morning and afternoon, but that was it more or less)

there's a problem with using shift + click - [edit] I forgot to say I've set it at double click with delay left empty [edit]
FF & Opera both use shift+click to open links in new tabs (or is it FF with TabMixPlus ?)
I havent tried Opera today but FF is acting up a bit now when I use shift+click - link opens in a new window instead of in a new tab and occasionally I get a pop-up notice from the system tray

that would make a problem with control key as well, maybe Alt or Windows might be better default keys?

It also occurred to me that using shift+click to open files (=double click) could be problematic in file manager  when trying to select many files and using shift as qualifier key (is that the right term - select a file, press shift key and select file down the list)

[see edit above]
