A very useful program, BUT:
I have to hit the key for "!" TWICE to get the character !. The first time it is hit, nothing happens. This is annoying.
And I have to hit the END key TWICE to get to the end of the line. The first time it only takes me to the end of the word.
Why is that? What can I do?

I dont have either problem here (only use this very occasionally so just tested again).

I'm using a german layout keyboard & XP SP2 and the AHK FIle
(I NOtice it capitalises the first couple of letters occasionally (!) - I THInk if I HOld the Caps key for a fraction longer it keeps it pressed for the following two keystrokes...)

What can I do?
-
maybe give some more info
OS keyboard layout, exe or AHK file...

Acer have a *very* poor reputation (here at any rate) in terms of fixing machines when under warranty but if the local store deals with that it sounds like that probably wont be a problem for you.

www.mediafire.com ... they been around forever and they are ultra reliable, their free storage is more than sufficient for most people and they offer a paid service (cant remember the price) for those who want to do huge file uploads.
so, they have unlimited upload/download & unlimited storage for the free service - what's the catch, how do they do that ??? :tellme:
Can you for example, just upload all your backup & leave them there ?

Here's an interesting one:
CrashPlan

I came across it here (a not very in depth review, in the Imaging Resource newsletter)

~ Basic backup software is free
~ Plus ('+') software is $60

Why should I buy CrashPlan+?

Purchase CrashPlan+ if:

    * You are a business. The free version of CrashPlan is for personal use only.
    * You need customer support. CrashPlan+ users receive email and phone support.
    * You want to restore files from the web. CrashPlan+ users can restore their files over the web when combined with CrashPlan Central (purchased separately).
    * You want continuous, real-time backup. The free version of CrashPlan backs up daily.
    * You like being super secure. The free version of CrashPlan is plenty secure but for enhanced security, CrashPlan+ uses 448bit encryption.
    * You want to be ad free! There are no ads in CrashPlan+

you can figure out from that the disadvantages of the basic software... Compare here.

In review linked above, they say it needs 500MB memory for continuous protection (!)
It's one of those watch your files in the background apps
It does partial file updates

The online backup costs $54/year/individual, unlimited backup (that sounds good!)
Again in the review they say they'll send you a 1TB drive to do your first backup if you have over 100GB to backup  [edit]-I didnt see that advertised on their site, presumably only in the US-[/edit]

Possibly under Wine:

apparently there was a related bug with Wine that got fixed in last version but I havent heard if it actually works now with it

« Last post by tomos on February 12, 2010, 03:24 AM »
While I agree wholeheartedly with not clicking links in emails and being wary, in this case the email wasn't spam, it was legitimate.  I received the same one and the links were similar, but different.  If you look closely, you'll see the lid field has different values.  If you click on the links you'll also see they take you to different pages.

http://lfov.net/webr...8b-9ad4-0615c9ef55a1
http://lfov.net/webr...8b-9ad4-0615c9ef55a1
http://lfov.net/webr...8b-9ad4-0615c9ef55a1

lfov.net redirects to LoopFuse.net, a sales and marketing automation service.  These services allow the sender (in this case Syncplicity) to track what links were clicked along with other analytics.

You'll never go wrong if you manually type in the company's URL when you get an email, but in some cases (like the survey) the links are masked for the sake of email tracking.  The only way to the survey is through the tracked link.

ahhh, interesting. thanks Jaden

« Last post by tomos on February 11, 2010, 12:35 PM »
Saw the sign up page yesterday, made it a point to not touch that "Try it" button, and logged into my gmail account.
Woke up this morning only to find that while I was sleeping, it had snuck into my gmail account & made a comfy little home for itself.
It showed me the people I'm "following" and the people who are "following" me.
W T F ??????? I don't "follow", I don't Tweet. I'm only on Facebook and I keep FB & Gmail separate for a reason.

Uggghh...I feel like I'm being stalked by a google app!!!!
Get away from me, Buzz, you creep! Can't you take "No" for an answer?  >:(

lol
I just joined Facebook lately and that's the way I feel about it (I dont want the fecker to keep shoving potential 'friends' in my face...even if I do half know some of them, & how do they know I half know them anyway - it's just creepy I find)
** But I can really understand you wanting to keep the two seperate - that would be a nightmare having an email account like that :'(

Ah, I wouldn't brew-d about it. :)

I may be wrong but their referencing system is a bit dubious to say the least - I got involved in debate a while back about another page and just got totally frustrated & gave up.

Is there a way to search (bing google whoever) for "donationcoder" but to exclude this whole site?

« Last post by tomos on February 09, 2010, 08:18 AM »
If on Windows, one of the best non-free programs for n-up printing is Qimage: http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/

It's shareware and a "Lite" license is $35.00

if you want to enlarge images it's probably better to get the $50 version
I personally find it objectionable in this day & age that you have to pay another $40 on top of that (=$90) for raw image support, in fact that's one of the reasons why I've never gone & bought it in spite of liking it a lot

compare edition here http://www.ddisoftwa.../qimage/editions.htm

I dont bank online so I dont have to think twice about any mail asking me to confirm my account details etc.

But today I got a mail from Synplicity saying that as I havent used my (free) acount in over 60 days (which is true) it would be canceled if I didnt login.
I almost clicked on a link - no actually I *did* click on a link (...I was thinking about something else) & Thunderbird warned me that the link was not what it seemed and true - there were 9 links and all were leading to the same link
http://lfov.net/webrecorder.........[etc]

I dont know did Thunderbird always do that, but if you hold the mouse over a link - the url will show in the statusbar.

Current Rebit "save me" prices seem to have gotten cheaper than mentioned above:
$29.95 and $39.95 . Looks very interesting.

yeah the most important thing is not to put any new data onto that drive where files were deleted, as that's the fastest way to make the lost data unrecoverable.
GetDataBack is the program i've seen recommended most often on DC for recovery.

I'd be willing to make a donation towards a decent recovery programme (for thegipper) if it could help...
