Mmm, Webroot has been doing it for some months now, we already discussed it a while ago.

Since no way in hell I'm installing such software (either bloated suites or obnoxious firewalls), I really don't care. But CCleaner also bundles the Yahoo! toolbar for example, and other software (WinZip?, IrfanView) bundle Google products (either the toolbar or the desktop search engine), and I always opt out (or get the "clean" build).

Even then, as I said in that other thread, we really have a problem if SECURITY software bundle toolbars from external companies, even more considering that such software is payware (unless they restricted the toolbars to the free editions), but I guess they must have a good reason to do so.

Well, it seems they already fixed it in the latest version, those are good news! :)

*sigh*, the never ending story with Flash. And they want people to disable ad blocking...

I wonder if Opera's FlashBlock also suffers from the same problem as its Firefox counterpart. Perhaps it's time to disable plugins EVERYWHERE... except in YouTube, of course :D

VirusTotal FTW! They improved even more the service by including analysis of the files with PeID, for those looking for more technical details. Besides, it's a Spanish site, which is even better ;D

And the game moved as slow as molasses in winter in the PS3... those Ubisoft guys really nailed it with the game. And to think the same team made Prince of Persia: Sands of Time...

Either a key or a character, it has to be something accessible. FARR biggest feature is how faster you can do most things, and if we use "exotic" characters, we'll hit a speed bump.

I have forgotten which machine it was but there is a machine with a cut down version of Linux in the BIOS so you don't need to boot up to use the internet. That would be the ideal guard against theft if you can set that to call home.

using the words best, top or sex in any title gets more views see, which is what it is all about for sites trying to become the top best sexy software site ;)
Good point, so maybe a new name for FARR could be Sexylaunch, Toplauncher or Bestrunner?  :P
Why not go for the jackpot? BestTopSexLauncher.  :)

Guys, you have to simplify: SexyBot. It's simple, catchy, and mouser can remove a letter and sold it as completely different thing, opening a new market ;D

Oh, I thought your theme was HmmXP, the window icon in the Start Menu is similar.

I would bet $1 million that all the people voting for Gnome Do or Quicksilver haven't tried those programs at least once, and such they're voting for the fame they have, how cool they look or how nice everything sounds from the feature lists. Oh well, these popularity contests, it's like the high school again (in teenager movies, that is, not IRL).

Unfortunately, I don't even have $100 at the moment, so if you excuse me...

The bad part is that if the fan does stop on my GPU, and stuff starts melting, it hits not only my $40 USB card, but my $150 X-Fi card and my $110 TV Tuner card. :tellme:

Buy cheaper cards and use the "deluxe" ones on Sundays ;D

The other day a fellow member of another forum recommended Feed43, which looks quite neat, you can configure how the information is extracted and from where, but I did not get my hands dirty with it to actually assess if it performs as advertised.

Also, in CyberNet they ran a HowTo a while ago, which mentions other alternatives (be sure to read the comments)

Heh, although I advocate the use of an antivirus as the first line of defense, I think I catch about 20 virus in 10 years, most of them caused by my own lack of sense at the time.

The two last ones were one trojan hidden in a "picture" than a random guy send me over IM, avast! promptly warned me about it. Later I examined the file, and it turns out it was not even a picture, but a executable, maybe a embedded presentation, but I decided to shred it.

The other one was another trojan that was served via JavaScript, I encountered it because I misclicked in a spammed wiki. Careful with where you point the cursor :D

About virus, I had tons of boot viruses (the same every time, though) in my floppy disks during the years, after visits to internet cafes whose owners forgot to do the basic homework.

Wow, I'm not surprised this thread would go so political in the end, but I never thought we were going to resort to name calling in DC, just like any other low-level forum out there. I guess that can't be avoided when talking about such things (politics, that is).

Moderators, I personally suggest to put a lock on the thread before things get even more out of control, and move to better things.
792
Yeah, Windows 9x can use up to .NET Framework 2.0. Another story is if the program does support such OS (Paint.NET does not for example)

Don't you love how far will politicians go to protect our freedoms and well being? :-*

Currently Zimbabwe and Burma are beginning to look liberal!

Well Lashiec, here in Paraguay the ambient temperature is 35 degrees (celcius) or higher for about 60% of the total year. Watercooling is an serious option over here, because moving air that itself is already 35 to 50 degrees hot does not cool the equipment that well.

Well, yeah, in those extreme cases watercooling is something worth considering, but in normal environments it's only really useful for xtreme OC 8), air cooling tend to be sufficient for the rest.

wreckedcarzz, you could take a look to more serious air cooling as well for an extra push. Or another card for that matter :)

Living Room / Re: How hot is too hot? Overclocking thoughts...

Mmmm, well, usually the card should not run at such high temperature on idle, but a temperature of 65ยบ C on load is quite good. You should throw some GPU stress test to the card to see if the image has artifacts (or if everything goes down) before you can be really sure, but you can push it harder. How hard? That depends, overclocking takes its time, and it's better to proceed in small steps. Unless you're really going to overclock it to the max, I don't see any need for a water cooling kit, you know, GPUs usually do not overclock as good as CPUs, and particularly ATI cards. And GPUs withstand really high temperatures.

Yeah, you can mess with the BIOSes of the cards, but never got there.

Or turn the volume up to 11 :)

Wi-Fi won't be a problem, after all a MP3 is not a HD movie.

Living Room / Re: Streaming audio across a network to multiple PCs?

I've been investigating squeezebox-type technology that will allow streaming of DVD video on a home network.  There are a few solutions out there, but I have seen mostly mixed results.  Some claim it is definitely doable, while others claim they cannot get it to work at all.

Anyone here at DC streaming ripped DVD's over a network?  (I have seen a few posts alluding to this here.)

Mmmm, perhaps this article could be of your interest. I think it's definitely doable with the usual home network, if you use Wi-Fi, then things get troublesome.

What we need is a tinfoil hat :D

In theory, the newer browsers have a better system to warn the user about invalid certificates (using color codes and less cryptic dialogs). Then again you know what they say about the universe producing better and bigger idiots, including quite some webmasters.

Anyway, what troubles me the most is they don't have a clue about who and why :S

In one sense it makes me almost want to encrypt my entire computer and refuse to share the password, but on the other hand I'm almost afraid to in order to avoid raising suspicions.

Oh, encrypting a laptop, huh? I'm sending a notice to the authorities just in case, you could be a terrorist ;D

Now that they have behaviour cops at the airports anything is possible.

What's the job of such cops?

Looking again at the shot, I see I was surprised a bit too soon, forgot to check up the columns headers and assumed they were sorted in the same way as in my Process Explorer. So, those figures (under "Private bytes") are perfectly normal for such "load" in the browsers. "Virtual size" is a complete different thing.
