Thanks for posting your solution!
As for icons -- Windows will cache icons and sometimes they go out of date until a restart or something.

I'll see how easy it would be for me to add an option for this. Maybe it's no big deal.

I have split this idea to it's own thread -- it will be happening for sure on May 2nd.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Back Up / Restore Instructions
« Last post by mouser on April 25, 2020, 10:29 PM »
Yep.

After you copy the files, if you open the new version of LBC and don't see your dock file loaded, choose from the menu File -> Open File and browse to your MCF file.

Make sure you backup the MCF you are using inside your LBC (see the screenshot), and not some other default empty .mcf file that might come pre-included with LBC.

If you have any doubt about where your launch bar data file is stored, just click on the FILE node in the main configuration and LBC will tell you:

You shouldn't have any trouble upgrading, it should upgrade and preserve all your settings.

If you do want to back up your settings, there are a couple of files to back up:
  • Each launch bar will be its own .MCF file (most users will only have one!); this is the most important file.
  • LaunchBarCommander.ini - some generic options
  • LaunchBarCommander.mcp - just tells LBC which launch bar files to load

By default these will all be in: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\DonationCoder\LaunchbarCommander\ directory.

however the timing i'll be fast asleep. if i could wake up i would join.
Perhaps we can have 2 short meetings at a 12 hour difference.

If the meeting is a success we can schedule a 2nd one at a different time.

I'm glad to hear that it's useful to you!

There's no reason that updating should mess with the settings.  Have you tried the latest alpha? I did find a problem recently that could cause problems with the updater closing the application where settings could in some cases be lost.  But the new alpha of CHS should solve that problem.

2. Interesting idea, will consider.

3. Difficult because the location of database and configuration options are governed by that option and so it needs to have a way for you to specify that BEFORE it loads the options file.

4. Noted, will be fixed in new release.

5. Maybe I can make an option that says to clear settings on opening modify format dialog.

6. I will implement that after I implement a cure to covid.

Are you using a custom file explorer on the "External Tools and Plugins" options tab?
If so try double quoting the $$1, like:

Thank you for your patience with me taking a while to fix this.

The error will still show up in the new version until you add the rule; once you do it should solve it I think.

In any future version I will make the rule automatic so you don't have to add it.
791
Ok I re-read your original post and saw you were saying it happens when you have more than a few cells selected, so I tried a test capturing more cells, and I can trigger the error on my end.
So the fix above should work... And now I need to decide how best to handle it going forward so that people don't have to add that rule manually..
792
I have uploaded a new alpha version (same url).

This new version will surely not solve the problem per se, but it now will skip trying to even look at formats that are excluded in the advanced rule section.

Once installed, add a rule as follows:
Screenshot - 4_23_2020 , 4_32_54 AM.png

This should prevent CHS from trying to grab the CF_METAFILEPICT format, that causes excel to freak out.  It shouldnt have any other bad side effect since CHS can still see the alternate image file format.

Let's go with zoom for this first meeting, since I am set up for it.

For those that have never used Zoom, it's a multi-user video/audio chat program for holding meetings online.
You can install the free client, OR just run it via the web without installing anything.

What does everyone think about having a super short 10 minute zoom meeting open to all donationcoder folks?
Just to say hello and put face and voice to forum nickname and do something weird?

We'll just all go around and say our names and say hello and then quickly sign off before we feel too nervous.

  • Date: Saturday, May 2nd
  • Time: 4pm central standard US time (forum time)

Who's in?

Uploaded new version, see if it fixed that.  I also see it was reversing when it used the docked vs undocked option for word abbreviations, hopefully that is fixed too.

Note that it will still do a non-intuitive switch when you get very near the end and only have a single value showing:
Screenshot - 4_21_2020 , 4_22_20 PM.png

That is by design to give you higher precision as you near the final end time.

Try new version:

Btw you'll find a menu option under help that will write a 2mb file of sample countdown times, to help diagnose if anything still seems weird.

I'm looking at the code now.. Can you post me a screenshot of your options for the bar that say how many words of detail to show, etc.
