DC Member Programs and Projects / Re: Hi everyone & software announcement...

Welcome, pax.

I am not known for my good GUI design, so take what I say with a grain of salt -- but the thing I would try to think about with so many checkbox options is what would be the best way to do it that would make it easier to maintain and easier to explain to user what their options are.

That's why I have taken to trying to logically divide options into multiple tabs, and with confusing options sometimes it helps to have room to explain an option.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Black screen captured

Prowling around in the low levels of Webroot I found a configuration screen that allowed me to bring SSC in from the cold.

dlroggow, i just had someone email me with same problem you had, in trying to capture from browser.

can you explain what setting you found in webroot that solved the problem for you?
7632
Ok if we just send credits out of our own pocket?

negatory.  and by posting in this thread you are contractually obligated to accept your disbursement grant.

The 2014 World Cup of Soccer (or football to those of you outside of the US) starts this month -- it's the only sport I ever watch.
Anyone else going to watch?

$30 Remote light switch controls 5 outlets:

Works well, cheap, and you can program buttons to turn off individual lights or combinations (for example one button to turn all on or off).  Very satisfied.
7636
Already possible :)

See the clipart button on the sidebar.  It comes with some nice clipart built in but you can add your own custom directories to it to use your own "stamps".

These custom images can also be used with the Screenshot Captor watermarking function, which will overlay your image but semi transparent, etc.

Let me know how it works for you!
7637
Yikes, that sounds frustrating.

The network drive does seem like it might be a likely culprit -- let's try to solve that by reverting to default settings and screenshot folder:
  • Exit screenshot captor.
  • Find your ScreenshotCaptor.ini settings file, which will in MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor (on WinVista and above).
  • Delete or rename or move that file.
  • Restart program.
Let me know if that solves the problem.
7638
Keep 'em coming.

ps.
You don't have to give them all out right away.. feel free to drip them out over the next month or two if you are so inclined.  Totally up to you.

Time for an experiment in sharing some donations...

If you have been a member of the forum for over a year and have over 50 posts, and would like to give out $10 in donationcredits to others on the forum that you think are making this place better, please post a reply here (or send me a personal message) and I will send you $10 in donationcredits which you should give out to others on the forum as you see fit (use whatever criteria you wish to decide on recipients and amounts).

Screenshot Captor / Re: Reason?

You *can* use alt+prtscr to capture the current window.

That message is triggered when you try to capture the "Active" window using the System Tray Icon right-click menu; the reason you get that message is because when you click on the system tray menu, the active window loses focus, and so Screenshot Captor doesn't know what it was and so can't capture it.

Good decision.

I've noticed this too recently, and it's definitely a bug and it's definitely annoying!
I will try to get out a CHS update this weekend and make sure this fix is in it.
Thanks for the nudge.

Peter, there are some wonderful books on encryption that I'm sure you would enjoy, that discuss both the historical and scientific aspects of the field.

Here's one I read recently that I can recommend:

The Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography Paperback, by Simon Singh
index.jpg

Simon Singh offers the first sweeping history of encryption, tracing its evolution and revealing the dramatic effects codes have had on wars, nations, and individual lives. From Mary, Queen of Scots, trapped by her own code, to the Navajo Code Talkers who helped the Allies win World War II, to the incredible (and incredibly simple) logisitical breakthrough that made Internet commerce secure, The Code Book tells the story of the most powerful intellectual weapon ever known: secrecy.  Throughout the text are clear technical and mathematical explanations, and portraits of the remarkable personalities who wrote and broke the world's most difficult codes. Accessible, compelling, and remarkably far-reaching, this book will forever alter your view of history and what drives it.

Of course Turing and the Enigma are discussed in the book.
