IsoBuster on offer again at Bits du Jour today, 2012-11-28.

IsoBuster is a data recovery tool specifically designed for optical media and optical media disc images. Supporting numerous optical and image formats, such as CD, DVD, ISO, Blu Ray, IMG, and HD DVD, you'll be able to recover your most important and sentimental files from a bad disc or image file!

Data recovery from physical media is only part of what IsoBuster can do. It's also a one-stop source opening and extracting ISO, IMG, and other disc image formats! Need to extract info from an ISO file you recently downloaded?

Never fear, IsoBuster is here to save the day!

Quoting a post by the author in the Bits du Jour thread:
Peter Van Hove
I should point out that the description above is a bit outdated.

IsoBuster now also supports the recovery from USB Flash drives / cards, Hard drives, floppy, diskette, zip, jaz., SSD etc.
An older description was re-used and I failed to point that out to the good people of BDJ.

Also interesting to know is that there's a new version coming. A key you buy now will obviously also work on that version (and all coming 3.x versions btw.).
752
Deal extended by another day, 27th Nov., about 11 hours left at time of posting.

Black Hole Organizer (BHO) is on offer at Bits du Jour BHO discount today, 2012-11-25, at $4.95 instead of the normal $24.95.

Note that the product has changed hands: it's now being developed by Starre Software, who bought it from its originators, Lincoln Beach Software.

Black Hole Organizer is a free-form, web enabled information manager application for storing and managing all of your notes, snippets, tasks and documents.

"Just another note organizer?"  Maybe.  But it's unusual in being a three-pane organizer, rather than the overwhelmingly more common two-pane type.  And the price is right...

I think you can cross off Kleptomania.  I couldn't get it to work on Vista Home Premium with UAC On, and the Web site http://www.structurise.com/ doesn't work any more.
756
It has output to CHM, for example, which I don't remember seeing before.  But, some features are awkward; it looks like you have to go round the houses to add to an existing note.  Try before you buy...

You saved me the effort of finding the references to those other programs  :)

There's a somewhat similar thread, dating to 2007: IDEA: Grab contents of an on-screen list.  It contains a skrommel AHK script, CopyListView.ahk.

I don't know if it helps, but XYplorer offers extended metadata as standard.  The screenshots show the metadata tab on the main pane, and the send to clipboard popup from right-clicking on a file.  Choosing extended data puts something like the following on the clipboard (XY's Help says this data changes according to the file type):

ZMover can reposition the image to my desired location but it takes a few beats and the effect is rather lame.
You don't need to pay to reposition windows - PowerPro can do it for you for free, but, it too needs a few moments to notice the window has arrived and take action.  It isn't portable, either, if you need that.
763
I'd prefer a nicer looking Windows GUI
Do you know Horst Schaeffer's freeware utilities, specifically WBox?  If I understand it correctly, it's a way of getting a native Windows-UI for a batch file.

shouldn't we split this off to a security discussion thread? No SciFi spoken here lately.
You're right, and now done, I see :)  Thanks to IainB for the review.

If it's any help, I just finished reading Monster Blood Tattoo 3: Factotum by D.M. Cornish.  It's great - a fantasy with strong steampunk SF and New Weird (Wikipedia) overtones.  Ships driven by engines of cultured muscle tissue, people getting organs implanted into them to dish out electric shocks, or going into battle throwing short-range chemical weapons at each other.  And, the library service tells me that Mark Lawrence's King of Thorns is on its way; the first one, Prince of Thorns, makes you think it's going to be sword-and-sorcery.  It isn't.  It's definitely SF, very dark, with a very young and startlingly amoral viewpoint character.  Also on its way, Pale by Chris Wooding, so new it's not yet mentioned on his Web site.  From the blurb, it looks more like horror/supernatural than SF, though.
766
I already run Online Armor firewall and F-Prot AV.  I'm somewhat concerned at running another anti-malware program, simply because of slowing everything down.  Any comments?

I only use MBAM Free for scanning. But I find from checking manually that often it updates the database at least a couple of times a day.
Do you have to run it as administrator before it will update?  I don't, and the update button is always greyed out.

When would you use Powershell, versus when would you use a good macro program like Macro Express, PowerPro, or one of the many others?

mouser,

I've just started trying the new Paste Template feature.  I made a new template thus:

@Paste MemPad note style
%ExcerptText%

URL: %Notes%
[ Web site visited %CreationDateTime% ]

%ClipText%

I clipped some text from the Web.  In its raw form, but cropped to the relevant part, this:
Justin Webb and Frances Fyfield

Availability:
over a year left to listen

When I used the new template to paste, the result came out thus:

Justin Webb and Frances Fyfield\n\nAvailability:\n    over a year left to listen\n\nDuration:\n

URL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01ng831
[ Web site visited 2012-10-23 ]

Justin Webb and Frances Fyfield

Availability:
over a year left to listen

The red "\n" are my emphasis.  At pasting time, shouldn't these be translated to literal newlines?

I guess some password safe apps like KeePass should be on the ignore list by default
+1.  And, if you use KeePass and have it set in CHS's Ignore list, would the OP still need a meganuke hotkey?

Better put than me, in less words  :(

it doesn't switch file dialogues into details view and sort most recent first automatically
Default Smart Commands include
Show File Extension (Ctrl + Shift + X)
Show Hidden Files and Folders (Ctrl + Shift + H)
but that's only part way there, and more keys to press.  Maybe you could ask Channing?

Listary seems to be a modern version of the old powerpro.
As others have noted, it only does a small subset of what PowerPro does, though I think some of what it does isn't natively in PowerPro and might take sophisticated coding to achieve.  I'd rate it easier to use for the features that overlap.  Also, Listary can be portable, which I don't think is really possible with PowerPro.

I am already pointing to a directory and have navigated to that directory using the FM. So presumably I can already work in that directory when I am already there.
Of course...  what benefits you will get from Listary will depend on what FM and other software you have.  For me, the benefits of being able to instantly switch any File Open/Save dialog to whatever directory TC is pointing to are great.  That's for any arbitrary directory, which can be a "new" one not already in any favourites list.  I could just point to a file in TC, press F4 and have whatever application is associated with that file in TC open it, but Listary allows any application to benefit from TC's navigation.

You're right that it's hard to describe, but the free-for-personal-use version contains a useful subset of the feature list, so anyone can try it out without cost and without installation.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Listary Pro for only $9.95 on Friday 19 October
« Last post by rjbull on October 21, 2012, 11:47 AM »
It still seems to me that:
(a) the features that I would have found useful in Listary Pro are already incorporated into xplorer², so, in my case, using Listary Pro would be adding unnecessary/redundant functionality.
OK, if you're happy, fair enough!  I wasn't as clear as might be.  The point I'm probably failing to belabour is the one Channing makes in the video tomos linked to, called Quick Switch: with the aid of Listary Pro, you can make any standard File Open/Save dialog instantly switch to whatever directory your file manager of choice is currently pointing to.  No more laboriously navigating a File Open/Save dialog to match the one you're already viewing in your FM.  I don't have xplorer², but I do have TC and XYplorer, and that feature works with both of them.  For me at least, that's pretty much worth the price of entry on its own.

Another feature I desperately longed for a few years back - not directly related to file managers - is Listary's ability to remember what was the last file you opened in a particular application was, described as "Select last opened file automatically" in the comparison chart.  If you then called File Open from the same app, Listary put the cursor on the same file, rather than on the first one and having to scroll through to find where you left off.  This would be useful if having to work on a long series of files, one by one.
775
elsewhere I use the middle mouse button for other things (like e.g. opening background tabs in browsers). How can I prevent Listary popping up in these cases?

Oh, dear... that sounds like a Question For The Author...  I presume Listary would need to have per-application hotkey support, like you get in some hotkey and macro programs, and I don't think it has yet.
