Some of the "causes" aren't what they appear to be on the surface. For some, it would be better if all the money were simply pocketed.

Which is why you should do your homework.....do research BEFORE you donate....

There is no guarantee that anyone will receive any money. If too many people submit a claim to get paid, the money will all go to non-profits like the EFF. They are one of the ones on the list of who will get a chunk of it if it doesn't go to the victims that put in a claim. I don't have a problem with the EFF getting part of the money, and I am not sure why anybody else would be. Do you know something about the EFF or any of these other organizations that I don't?

I've been a faithful supporter of the EFF for more than 10 years.  There's too many things to list here of what they have accomplished over the years, but you can see the list on their website https://www.eff.org.  They are government ball-busters when it comes to privacy issues, and the majority of the donations go to the "cause" and not into their collective pockets.

Or just hand the money over to a bunch of buddies... Just a bit skeptical about "non-profits" and "NGOs"... I've lost all faith in them after learning about what some of them really do. Enough to make you vomit through your eye-sockets.
That's why I always check http://www.bbb.org/us/charity/ first, just to see how much of the donation goes to the cause and what goes into the pockets of the "staff".

Also that's odd. Because the tiles on the bottom of the shuttle are clearly black in color in photographs, although that may just be their surface color and the ceramic they are made from is white inside.
You are quite correct, the space shuttle is painted black on the bottom, though I don't know the reason for this other than aesthetics, cuz when it hits the atmosphere the paint burns off.  The bricks are very close tolerance, and what little space that's between them is puttied in with a heat-resistant putty that's dark gray to black and gives the bottom of the shuttle a checkered appearence.  I used to have a picture of the bottom before it was painted and it did look rather ragged.  I'll see if I still have it....

Gee, where to start.....  For one, a very short attention span, always wanting to get back to texting and such.  Then there's the anti-social aspect when they spend their time online and not dealing with people face to face.  And of course not getting enough physical exercise because they're always on their electronic devices.

Just too many aspects of this, need more input!   :)

Once I get Wine installed...

Wine works surprisingly well. But it's not a panacea. Don't expect everything to run under it. Or be stable if it does run. Because there's many times a winapp simply won't work with Wine no matter how much fiddling you do.

Fortunately, with the advent of inexpensive and very large hard drives, it's quite practical to allocate some space for XP and setup a dual boot system. Especially since most flavors of Linux are Windows 'aware' and can install themselves alongside it with no fuss or headaches.
 8)

As with all emulators, I kind of figured there would be some things that just won't work.  I think I'm going to put in a larger hard drive for the dual boot system and use this hard drive for storage and backups.

There was no "yet" in that application... that's what makes me wonder. It never got a real function there.
Even after two updates, the button still didn't do anything, so that kind of makes me wonder..  Hmmmm....

You care to share where this pic came from Tinman57?  Looks like a piece of Styrofoam to me.   ;D   And what's that white shaft to the right of it?   :tellme:

The picture came from my Olympus Camedia C-4000 digital camera, taken in my side yard.  And yes, the tiles do look just like styrofoam, and not much heavier.  The shaft to the right of it is an electrical post for electric fencing.  I posted them by all the debris I found around my house and property as markers so the NASA folks could see where all the debris were when they came out to my place to retrieve them all.
I had a shitload of people here from NASA, FBI, Sheriffs Dept., FAA, Air Force, Constables and "others" that I couldn't identify.  My wolves were having a hissy fit over all the people around.  lol

The image was obviously Photoshopped, but not to add that single object, but remove all the others;)

It would have looked a lot more like this, if they had not cleaned it up:

Looks like there's a bunch of empty vodka bottles floating around.  Now we know what the Russians do with their empties...  :D

But here on DC, when you use the youtube bbcode tag, it embeds the video, which is flash, and not an image. His complaint was about missing images here on DC, which turned out to be missing youtube videos.

My bad!   :-[  I thought he was actually talking about going to the Youtube site.

It had one weird toolbar button.
When you pressed it, a message window popped up: "This is a Not-Function". (In German, though: "Dies ist eine Nichtfunktion".)

I've got an app that has a button with a strange symbol on it, and when pressed a window pops up that says "This don't do anything.....YET!"

A lot of countries extend their jurisdiction beyond their jurisdiction and completely ignore sovereign borders. This isn't unusual.

It's even more disturbing when they treat their citizenry like property.

Even Win 7 will be TWO OS's OLD if they live up to their promise to slam out another new one. Yes it's 8 years later and "competent", but why still go with a 2 year old OS? If I'm gonna upgrade I like to "bite the bullet, pick well, get stuff that lasts, then ride out the ripples of marketing".

Yeah, I don't play into that "You've just got to upgrade to the newest OS or your not cool" crapola.  XP works just fine for me, and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend another 4 grand on another top-of-the-line computer just to be able to use it.  This 2.8 ghz machine flies with XP, and will be extremely faster on Linux.  I'll keep XP as an alternate boot with all external communications disabled for security.  Once I get Wine installed plus get all of the Linux software that I need, I'll be pretty much set up for the life of this computer.  And when it blows up, I'll just transfer everything onto a new computer without having to buy an OS that I already paid for.  Got to love that!   8)

I could see it being that.

Thermal tiles are black in color, and one that cracked could produce a triangular piece that in zero-G would simply float away slowly enough to be photographed.

Some theories advanced earlier by a community of spacefans is that it was part of the Hubble telescope that had been discarded, but although there was a STS-61 mission with that task it was not marked as STS-61C.

All thermal tiles, AKA "Heat Shields" are white, at least all the ones I've dealt with in "Skunk Works" and the Space Shuttle.  After re-entry they're slightly blackened with soot, but still white in color as seen here.  This piece of tile, among many other parts that landed around my house, came from the Columbia shuttle crash.

ShuttTile1.2.JPG

As far as the SR-91 Aurora, it's way slimmer than what's in the picture.

Today it seems maybe it was my browser?  I went to include this DC link - Reply #91 and it's there... a YouTube video.
Youtube videos are flash, not images. Maybe you are having some sort of issue with your flash plugin?
On the right side of the YouTube pages, all of the selections for the videos are .jpg images.  You click on them and it takes you to the actual .flv video.

So if I use Skype in the UK to communicate with someone in the UK it is subject to the US Patriot Act?
Only if the Skype is routed through the U.S., which probably all calls are, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find they were doing it internationally.

Phones bought after January 25 can no longer lawfully be decoupled from a carrier by the owner of the device. How did this decision come to rest with a single non-elected, non-technical, elderly librarian in Washington?

I'll be on my XP machine until they stop supporting the security.  Then I'm off to Linux-land.  I'm tired of MS screwing us with crap like ME.  I actually took ME off my computer and installed 98 SE.  Then came Vista and Win 8, two more that I consider crap.  I don't like the idea of having MS spy on my system every time I boot up just to make sure I'm in compliance, don't like being treated like I'm a crook, and damned sure don't like having to "Phone Home".  I don't like having the OS glued to my motherboard so I can't just upgrade my system without having to pay homage to MS.  Then there's the price issues, the compatibility problems, hardware issues, etc etc etc.  Not to mention that I miss being able to access DOS like with 98.

There was just a blank white box with a slashed-O in the upper left-hand corner.      Is there a name for this slashed-O thingy when it's displayed like this?
That's just the "Template" to show that the image couldn't be displayed at the time.
