doogiePIM now part of the Comparative Review of Writers' Tools (INITIAL DRAFT). Dormouse (author of same) appears to like it.

It's also on BDJ today at 50% off (~35US$).

Interesting... IE caught it and through a warning when I clicked the link. But when I copied the link to paste it into FireFox it came off the Windows clipboard as apple.com.

didnt think of that:
PaleMoon up-to-date showed the correct link both ways (i.e. always https://xn--80ak6aa92e.com/). No warning though.

Aomei Backerupper on BDJ today:
Pro for free
Lifetime Pro for ~22US$
http://www.bitsdujou...in=todays-deals-home

Note #1 there is no info available about what exactly the lifetime offer involves (one commenter claiming it's not lifetime -- but I think it's just that the fineprint only covers the free offer).

Note #2 appears Firefox and Chrome and some anti-virus are labeling it (presumably the free offer) as malware/virus. Possibly because of something like opencandy in the installer?

Another fun novella by Mark Clifton:

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/27595

If you have problems with authority figures I suspect you will enjoy his stories.  Written in early sixties but really applies in the post 9/11 USA.
couldn't get the book (Error 403: Forbidden) but still made for an interesting read:

Spoiler
The Basics

On December 30, 2015, PGLAF received notification that a lawsuit had been filed in Germany against it, and its CEO. The lawsuit was concerned with 18 eBooks, by three authors, which are part of the Project Gutenberg collection.
The lawsuit was filed in the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court, in Germany.
The Plaintiff is S. Fischer Verlag, GmbH. Hedderichstrasse 114, 60956 Frankfurt am Main, Germany. They are represented by the law firm, Waldorf Frommer of Munich.
The essence of the lawsuit is that the Plaintiff demands the 18 eBooks to be removed from Project Gutenberg's servers. The lawsuit also seeks punitive damages and fines.
Based on legal advice from its US attorneys, PGLAF declined to remove the items. The lawsuit proceeded, with a series of document filings by both sides, and hearings before the judges (all of which occurred in German, in the German court). PGLAF hired a German law firm, Wilde Beuger Solmecke, in Köln, to represent it in Germany.
On February 9 2018, the Court issued a judgement granting essentially most of the Plaintiff's demands. The Court did not order that the 18 items no longer be made available by Project Gutenberg, and instead wrote that it is sufficient to instead make them no longer accessible to German Internet (IP) addresses.
        Court's original decision (in German).
        Decision translated into English.
PGLAF complied with the Court's order on February 28, 2018 by blocking all access to www.gutenberg.org and sub-pages to all of Germany.

ironic that Project Gutenberg gets blocked in Germany...

Sorry, needed another Post #1 update, last time i hope :-[

it's very good to see something being updated
look at mouser's software, he never stops updating the stuff :)
732
What I read from the OP is that not the smallest file is the issue, but the fact that vBulletin displays the jpg's larger then png's.

it sounds like it has a fit-to-window setting for jpegs; the png OTOH is being shown actual size.
733
Yes, the issue was simply that the .JPG would fill up the page in vBulletin on the large sizes.  The .PNG would make a smaller image to the left. For my purposes, I generally like the biggies.
-Steven Avery (June 14, 2018, 02:51 AM)
Would be interesting to hear if that also the case with screenshots taken by other softwares
734
Both seemed to want to make .PNG which do not get large easily like my .JPGs
-Steven Avery (June 12, 2018, 11:36 AM)
I think this sentence might be incomplete or incorrect? Doesn't make sense to me anyways.

You say above you want jpgs (in SC you can make jpg default). Why jpgs btw?
735
Have you looked for extensions/addons for your browser that will do this -- they often the best solution.

Screenshot Captor does scrolling capture, is very good, (but this job appears to be problematic at times for all apps).
Was going to recommend mouser's series of videos related to SC but have no idea where they are -- mouser ! there's no links to those videos on SC's homepage?

1 bit is black and white (true or false).
should have known this having worked with 1bit tiffs for years...

2 bits is 4 colors, which was the case for all GameBoy games as well.
initially I thought this was wrong --
and that it should be just black/grey/white -- with white being simply 'off' (i.e. bit#1 set to on would be black, bit#2 set to on would be grey). But of course that's all wrong, and you were right -- two bits is four colours. As one can *clearly* see if one looks at the images (I need a rolling-eyes smiley).

Wikipedia explains it as 2 squared -- another example: 6 bit colour would be 2 to the power of six (as opposed to 2*6, which was how I was thinking).

Gameboy!
I'm no gamer, and never was, but I suspect a few of you remember the Gameboy -- I never knew that at some stage it got a camera:

Back in 1998, Nintendo released an odd accessory for the Game Boy called the Game Boy Camera. Meant to be a light-hearted entertainment device for children, it went on to win the Guinness World Record in 1999 for smallest digital camera and was even used by Neil Young to take photos for the album cover of Silver & Gold.

Neil_young_silver_gold_cd.jpg
(image via wikipedia)

So, it was a very small camera that made very small images...
In the year 2000, photographer David Friedman used it to take some photos in NY:

Screenshot - 2018-06-11 , 20_54_51_ver001.png

apparently the above images have been increased in size by 200%. Originals were 256 x 224 pixels and just 2 bits (although that's just black & white isn't it? images below include grey).

More recently, designer Bastiaan Ekeler decided to attach a monster Canon zoom lens to a Gameboy camera.
His 3D-printed adapter fits to a partially disassembled camera, and with a 1.4x teleconverter and 70-200mm F4 attached, produces an impressive 3026.8mm equivalent view.

I *think* that means a 3,000x zoom (?). Amount of zoom is difficult to understand and describe simply, but the zoom does increase proportionally to the size of the sensor i.e. smaller sensor = more zoom, and you're not going to find a much smaller sensor than this one.
Some of the images he made:

If you're interested in more, the Gameboy also been used for astrophotography

^ this idea would need to be protected, so kickstarter is probably not the best idea.

As said your location is relevant.
I have a friend/acquaintance here in Germany who had a very simple idea that hugely increased the safety of working with ladders in certain situations. He wanted to patent the idea -- I did up drawings for the idea, which he used in his proposal. It turned out that in Germany there was no need to get a patent to protect his idea. Tbh I couldnt tell you what exactly he needed to get, and it's probably not relevant to you in your location anyways.
Because his idea involved something very helpful to e.g. the Fire Dept/Brigade, he got a lot of support from officials, and eventually got involved with a company who paid for developing prototypes etc. in return for a very large percentage of eventual profits.

It looks like it will be ten years between idea, and actually making any real money off of it -- from what he's been told it's often a lot longer (if ever). I know that getting a patent is more work too (and note he did put a *lot* of effort into the process).

I dont have any recommendations re relationship books myself. Was interesting to read your recommendations mouser

In general, all of these books are way too bloated with the same information repeated over and over again...  All of them could have half of their pages removed without losing anything.
I'm reminded of two 'self-help' books from years ago:
  • Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway
  • End the Struggle and Dance with Life
both by the same author (Susan Jeffers). I found the first one helpful and bought the second. Both books were extremely repetitive in content. Both books are perfectly summarised in their titles. So you just need to remember the title and apply the advice at the appropriate moment, and you're sorted...

it was a psychology textbook written by a man and wife team (2 academics and psychologists) who had expanded in the book the theoretical boundaries of what is called TA ("Transactional Analysis") - a psychoanalytic theory and method of therapy. I was reading it simply out of interest and to get up to speed with the current methodology, having studied and been very interested in the earlier development of TA (sort of "I'm OK, You're OK").
You dont name the book?
Interesting post -- well, the second part. First part is a worthwhile warning, especially for this type of topic, but is overstated which leaves the danger that people simply stop reading and miss the second part (I nearly did).

Another Aomei Partition Assistant experience:
  • free version
  • Windows 10 (Lenovo laptop)

I wanted to split the C partition (the only other visible partition was a Lenovo recovery one).

I chose to do this *without* creating an Aomei bootable usb-stick.
Was fairly simple, you click 'Split' and get to choose size of new partition. It suggests that you allow Aomei to 'check' that non-split partition, which I did. Was fine. (Note I had also defragmented the drive beforehand.)

I'm afraid I didnt keep a proper record of the whole thing, so this from memory: On clicking 'Apply', Aomei created a PE environment (virtual?), then rebooted Windows. This took some time, but not excessive. On rebooting, the new partition was not visible in Explorer, but was visible in Disk Management -- I formatted it there -- it was then visible in Explorer.

This could probably all be done simply using Disk Management, but I think one would have to shrink the volume first and then create the new volume.

Girl Walk // All Day is a feature-length dance music video and tale of urban exploration that follows three dancers across New York City.
[...]
is set to All Day, the album by mash-up musician Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk)
http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=LjeYZTGCqv0

Someone made a mashup video of that Girl Talk - All Day music mix, using the original videos.
I'm loving it. The music is a crazy mix of genres and times -- it's a brilliant mix, and the video mashup more than does it justice.

I have to admit I dont even know, or really know half the artists. There's 373 tracks sampled in the album.**
Imagine old, bald Pete Townshend shuffling gingerly onstage as a synth burbles up behind him — “Let My Love Open the Door.” Now imagine the rapper Pimp C already on that stage, in a white fur suit and hat, holding up four fingers to show off his bling. A kick line of girls in black minishorts walks it out for DJ Unk, who’s rapping about a kick line of girls, then Levon Helm appears on a drum riser to chirp out “The Weight.” Also onstage: Jay-Z, Black Sabbath, Rick Springfield, Kesha, Bruce Springsteen, Miley Cyrus, the Ramones and Tupac and Biggie Smalls (both back from the dead) and hundreds more. ... This is pretty much the state of affairs at a Girl Talk show these days.
(nytimes)

EDIT// possibly should add a NSFW tag, for language at least.

(disclaimer: video is 40 minutes long, I've been tuning in and out.)

** re those 373 tracks sampled, below a full list from http://www.illegal-a.../allday/samples.html
you can also download the album there.
Tracks are alphabetised, so video above presumably shows tracks '#' to F.
