Am I the only one who gets confused by this badge:

nany_award_64x64.gif

To me it looks like I wrote a NANY app for January 2001

I am the only one aren't I. It's me isn't it? Just say if it is.

Hence something like a voting-powered search engine is handy. Problem for me is that I can never remember the name of any of the stupid things.

Find and Run Robot
WinAmp

I would argue about Search Everything - it must have some terrible sort algorithm. Have you seen how long it takes to sort only a few thousand filenames?

Ah good - I do see a bear. I treasure the NANY mugs greatly, but there're some good alternatives, which is nice.

Right now it works like this:

when a word can be formed using the current letters, that word gets highlighted, and you can click it to get credits for it and this starts wheels spinning.

How i think it should work:

when a word can be formed using current letters, you automatically get credit for it (and words should be worth more i think!), and nothing happens.  then you can choose to keep making new words by adjusting wheels, etc.  and also add that for every 3 words you get within a spin you get an additional spin.

I did originally have something similar to that, but it turned out to be too easy. Even if a simple word comes up, you may not want to choose that, if a really nice word is easily formed by nudging. The number of credits awarded is based on the length of the word, so you may want to build up some extra credits to help make the difficult words before choosing the easy words. Ooh: almost some strategy required  :-[

Personally, it's either that or the thong for me...

Not knowing what you look like, I just imagined your forum avatar in a thong and got a good laugh.  ;D

It's not so far from reality ;)

Personally, it's either that or the thong for me...

Ok, well on mouser's sage advice, I have released the game as is. True, it's playable so as usual he's right.

Later on I'll release an update with more words, more levels, maybe a hi-score table etc.

What a great find, app!

I'll hold the football while you try to kick it ;)

Btw: I just tried my cartoon site, and it's a bit bigger than the Vatican.

Surely that's on the way to being bigger than Jesus? ;)

I have nothing but fondness for the Millennium Bug. It made me a fortune in one night

Plus the company I was contracted to at the time hired some big-shot analyst to try and get an idea of the scale of their problem. He gave a long presentation to us, all the while referring to the "Minnellium Bug"

Credibility: 0 and falling  ;D

I must admit, this is of interest, if there's a little more free time coming up in the very near future.

In terms of testing the waters, how about pimping the Codex Transportica site into a little e-book?

« Last post by timns on January 03, 2011, 05:29 AM »

AND LASTLY: If you are a NANY 2011 coder, this is your chance to email me ([email protected]) or message me any details you want me to specifically highlight in my screencast of your program.  Because these are really quick and dirty screencasts, I often don't do justice to the entries, and have been known to totally miss the point and fail to recognize genius when i first see it (like i tragically did when not appreciating the wonderfulness of timns' Twigatelle game in last year's NANY).

Thank you

I could probably put something together myself, but not until after Jan 6th since I'm still travelling at the moment. So put Auspex and Whirlyword on the end of the list, and hopefully I'll take them off your hands.

One of the 'replay mouse and keyboard event' type programs will do it.

We could try MacroGoblin for instance. http://www.macrogoblin.com/

Happy New Year everyone.

I just uploaded build 70 which I hope will fix the missing "@" and other characters for users whose keyboards do not have those characters available without an alt-keypress.

I haven't been able to try it myself, so would appreciate any and all feedback, as ever.

Living Room / So, when you're working, do you...
« Last post by timns on December 29, 2010, 07:22 AM »
I just read a comment by Renegade saying he likes a bit of TV or movie to keep him company while he works.

Personally, I would find that wayyyy too distracting.

So my question to the forum would be: what sort of environment do you find most productive?

Personally, I very much like to have music on while I'm working - even quite loud in fact. But any sort of spoken word completely collapses my concentration, so no radio, just my mp3 collection.

I also like to have a couple of lamps switched on on my desk, with the rest of the room dim. But I am lucky to have a nice view, so I do take a screen break every now and then, to stare at the bay.

When I get home I'll post a picture of my setup since I think it would be interesting to compare how we all arrange ourselves. I might get some good ideas

Living Room / Re: Dreamy Monitor...
« Last post by timns on December 29, 2010, 06:25 AM »
I have 3 monitors. I'm with nudone about that 4th one... it's just not ergonomic to keep looking up.

At the moment I have 19" - 25" - 19" and I reckon the best layout for me would be 19" - 25" - 22"

Having said that, I did have an optimus prime keyboard for a while and I loved the monitor-like possibilities on the keyboard itself.

Unfortunately the OP is HOPELESS as a keyboard, so it's just dumped in the corner getting dusty - more on that one day. I have been threatening to set fire to it or something ;)

So I think one extra thingy that would be nice - a tiny touch screen on the left of the keyboard with dynamic function 'buttons'

Luckily I am left-handed but use my mouse on the right side, so the touch screen could nestle right up against the keyboard. Are there such things? I vaguely remember a thread about that on DC somewhere but can't find it offhand.
