Developer's Corner / Re: AutoHotKey Tidy or equivalent?
« Last post by MilesAhead on August 06, 2009, 12:49 PM »
That ahk tidy script looks like it will do the trick.

Not to start an editor feature war, but does it seem weird to anyone else that an editor doesn't have a hotkey to delete a line?  Or if it does, it's not documented? You sort of have to trial and error the thing.  In Scite based it seems like Control-L will delete a line like in MS Visual Studio, but I haven't found the secret in PsPad yet(I use that mostly for my web stuff.)  I've been selecting a line with Shift-End, then deleting with the Del key.  Is there an Easter Egg to just delete the line in one go?

Thanks guys.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the party over for Microsoft?

I don't think I have 4 mouse clicks on anything Mac, so I can't comment on what's it's like to use it.  But this stat: 91 percent of $1,000-and-higher retail computer sales now go to Apple. makes me think that you have to spend $1000 to get a Mac that does anything.  For $400 in Best Buy the guy who wants to do email, browse the net, and use a digital camera is in business, with enough storage to store quite a few photos.  It's kind of like saying Ford is in decline because over 90% of customers who purchase an automobile for > $100,000 don't buy Fords.  Like, no kiddin'!!

Developer's Corner / AutoHotKey Tidy or equivalent?
« Last post by MilesAhead on August 05, 2009, 04:08 PM »
Right now I'm using Scite4AutoHotKey but I'm wondering if anyone knows of another free editor esp. one that has "Tidy" or equivalent for autoindent and syntax checking. Not to start a favorite editor war, but what are people using for AHK?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Rename Pad

Take a look at FreeCommander 2009.02

http://www.freecommander.com/

It's free and has a rename function.  When you press F2 you get a dialog with some simple patterns or you can just change the basenames of a bunch of files at once.

I use Bulk Rename also, but for simple renaming jobs, the one if FreeCommander is handy.

General Software Discussion / Anyone know what's up with nircmdc.exe?
« Last post by MilesAhead on August 03, 2009, 07:07 PM »
I notice there's an additional exe file in the NirCmd download called nircmdc.exe.  The only line of info about it I can find is in the change log: nircmdc.exe - console version of NirCmd.

Zero mention in the .chm file.  When I try to run commands in a command window using it I get:

For more information about using this utility,
read the help file - nircmd.chm
or visit NirSoft Web site at http://www.nirsoft.net

and of course I can find no mention of it at all in the help file.. there's no search mechanism in the .chm.. nuthin'.

Is this obsolete or what?

Not sure if this gizmo is related but I noticed on GOTD is Handy Folders

Do you use tons of extensions?  Have you tried Minefield? I haven't looked at the problem reports but it seems like they are taking a long time putting out 3.6.  Maybe they just don't want to upstage 3.5?  Seems stable to me anyways. :)
7061
At least now you know if you get somebody complain about Winamp and W7 to tell 'em it's a skin thing.  Not your problem. :)
7062
Well, it looks like it doesn't like .wal winamp skins.  It likes .wsz skins.  That seems to be the common denominator.  You'd have to ask others with W7 using different builds.  I'm using 7077. Vista doesn't care.  .wal skins are fine on Vista64.

7063
I guess it just doesn't like MMD3 skin mainly.  I'm trying a few others and they work.  The weird thing is, if I play a file out of PlayTime, and Winamp comes up with the different skin, then if I try to use MMD3 from the options menu, it crashes.  This is weird. :)
7064
It looks like particular skins don't like launching out of PlayTime.  I just downloaded a different one and it works.  It's some kind of skin scripting error.  For some reason if I double click in explorer it doesn't happen.  I'll just have to use a different skin on W7.  No big deal.

The error box that pops up has a small font in dim red text on a black background.  If I try to get the magnifier out to read it, it disappears.  But it definitely says script error and something about mouse trap. Must be skin scripting stuff. If I find out anymore info I'll post it.

7065
Hmmmm, Winamp doesn't like being started from inside PlayTime it seems on W7. If Winamp is already open, then it just plays the file.  Something to do with launching with skins.  Works fine on 64 bit Vista.

I tried compatibility mode and Run As Administrator.  Does not help.  Strange.  For now I guess I'll just open Winamp first. :)
7066
Hmmmmm I changed the .flac association to VLC media player and it worked as expected.  Maybe it's a Winamp thing?
7067
Not sure why but files that open fine in Winamp when double-clicked, such as .flac and .mp3 files, show a Winamp crash when double-clicked in PlayTime 1.1.4 on Windows7 32 bit (build 7077)

I got one error that said something about "mouse trap" in a red rectangle until I changed the Winamp skin.  Then with MMD3 skin it just crashes with the standard W7 "app name has stopped working" dialog.

cat which version of FF are you running?  Might be better off, believe it or not, with Minefield.  I've been using July 25 nightly build and so far I see no reason to change it. :)
7069
Thanks skwire.  Really nice. :)

Looks really nice.  Would it be possible to have the Filename column self-adjusting as it was before and have the other columns relative to it, if it is the leftmost column? The other columns will have pretty much known maximums so adjusting them once should be all that's needed.  But the base filename can vary in length quite a bit.

(The Path I'll leave in the rightmost column and chances are I'm right clicking in a folder so I know the path anyway. But with the self-adjusting base filename thingy, I won't have to work anything except the main scrollbars.)

I promise this is the last adjustment request(unless you can get it to pick winning Lotto numbers) :)

I've used several versions of Paragon Drive Backup with Vista and I've had problems with the backup capsule feature.  My advice would be if you are going to create a backup capsule in Vista check out partition table save/restore/fix programs first.  I had problems with this feature on both 32 bit Vista and Vista64 SP1.  It worked fine on XP.

Also if you have "fake raid" I suggest making the boot CD, booting it, and going into the restore program.  If it doesn't like your hw, usually right then the video will go bonkers and you'll have to cycle the power.  If it goes into the restore program from the CD(not in compatibility mode but the normal one) then you should be okay. In fact this is a good idea if you have fake raid or not.

If it likes your hw the program seems to work fine, backup capsule aside.  I just backup to an external USB drive. I just got one of those BlacX USB docks that you slide an internal Sata drive into.  Makes it even more convenient.

If you are on XP chances are you're golden but it's too late to check after you need to use the restore! :)

7072
I'm using a Minefield nightly build from July 25 so my experience likely won't apply.
Did you get the development version from the forum link?  I tried the one from the normal Addons page and I took it off.  There should be a link to the forum with the dev build in this thread.
7073
Tab Mix Plus is causing problems in FF - latest build is purported to be 'compatible'! Hmm....

I'm running Tab Mix Plus now(the development build from the referenced forum page) and so far it seems ok.  I really don't stress tabs though, so you can't go by my experience in this area.  About the most "tabby" thing I do is open 3 tabs at once by middle clicking a bookmark folder. :)

edit:

I don't seem to need anything in Tab Mix Plus but I like the little progress bar thingies.  Until I see a negative side effect I guess I'll leave it on.

More columns are a snap to add; are there any you would like to see?

Hmmmm, if you add audio and video codec then you'd have just about all the pertinent info from MediaInfo. The other thing, if I reposition the columns it seems to forget the order if I close and open the app.  Could you persist the column order?

I think soon I'm going to be taking MediaInfo out of my FreeCommander favorite tools list and putting PlayTime in.  It's more versatile esp. the context menu selection handling.  :)

7075
That's nicer than the MediaInfo "sheet" interface now.  Just right click on a bunch of files and it opens up and loads.
