Sorry; I don't even care for dualpane, less multi.
Edit: Sorry (again) I said that the wrong way
I use multipane: mtexplorer

I took the needed time and read the threads at Wilders. Most informative! Now I trust Returnil a hole lot more; the Wilders' community was part of the Beta testing!

Potential? Yes. But Speed? No! Maybe it just needs a lot more RAM than I can offer, but response time is far too slow - the lack of speed really was disappointing to me. However it sure has Potential, Yes.

General Software Discussion / Re: Any "search this folder only" engines?
« Last post by Curt on June 28, 2007, 12:01 PM »
The "big DC file" I mentioned is Wordzilla's piece of art:
Updated: 3 June 2007.
Download: http://www.mrmouser....ForumCrawl030617.rar
74.9MB RAR package containing 8,523 individual html files. (all useless Login.html files are removed, so what's left is pure meaningful content)
... use google, with a query like "site:donationcoder.com volumouse"

Thanks for giving the example of how to write such a query. I didn't know.

But still the Google result is not sufficient. Volumouse has been named at DC at least once more than Google displayed. Anyway: I suddenly remembered this little app from my younger days: Wilbur. So I searched for him and found that he has retired, but has been replaced by his kid sister: Wilma. I guess Wilbur was reluctant to let her go, because the average download speed for these 7MB was merely 25 KB/sec...

Wilma is now installed and is doing exactly what I asked for. She immediately indexed the one folder I asked her to, and will now search DC Forum only. And because I use UltraExplorer and Maxthon she is placed right where I want her: in the toolbar. Wonderful little piece, she is - and updated so often you wouldn't believe it. You should try her!

General Software Discussion / Any "search this folder only" engines?
« Last post by Curt on June 28, 2007, 09:37 AM »
I am sick and tired of search engines that will promise to index and search my entire PC but do not deliver the right search result. I have downloaded the big DC file, in order to search it, and I know without any doubt that I several times have been writing here at DC about Volumouse, so I was expecting my search engines to show me where I wrote the word "Volumouse". But No; they will only search the headlines / file names. What a sad surprise!

So my question is what search engine I should install in order to search the content of every file in any given folder (only). I don't want it to search the entire PC or hole directories, but the marked or opened folder only. I would very much like it to have a button in the Explorer toolbar or a line in the context menu, maybe saying "Search this folder (only)". Do you know of such a wonder program?

I think this thread would be more interesting if everybody took some time to quickly describe the software and maybe post a link to the programs' homepages.

Hear! Hear!

Volumouse - Let you change Windows' volume by dragging the wheel and holding Ctrl or Alt, or placing the cursor over the taskbar. I find myself trying to use it on every computer now, as if it was an ordinary feature :)

Hear! Hear!   :-*

DaddyClick - Hmmm okay, it's quite a joke cause DaddyClick is a AHK script i've done, but actually i really enjoy using it :-[ It lets you go to parent folder by double-clicking on whitesapce in open/save dialogs and explorer windows, then it highlights the folder you come from. Maybe still a little buggy...

Looking forward to hear more (when less buggy)!

... u can use http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=3892 or TameGimp (if u can find it)...

Backgroundwindow.exe and Backgroundwindowhook.dll from registry.gimp.org/plugin are both stamped June 2005. They do the job, but it is really not too impressive - there is this single window, and that is what they are supposed to do, give The Gimp one window only, but the window is larger than the screen, and scrolling is odd. However; they do the job:

I found it impossible to download TameGimp; it may (also) be too old?
This one however is not too old:

- not that I know of.   :tellme:

You are  of course right about the careful planning, but I cannot see anyone but DC members should be allowed to write. I don't primarily think of this as some service to people all over the world, but both as a service to us and a means to attract more member$.

It would be interesting to know if any of you TeraCopy users had it replace Explorer's copy functions, and integrate with the context menu?

Shell integration.
TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.

Photoshop is very good, and very expensive.

GIMP is also very good, but the learning curve is huge compared to Photoshop

Paint.NET I executed once and never looked back - because I didn't have time :)

Allow me to rewrite your post:

  • Rolls Royce is good and expensive
  • Ferrari is good and expensive
  • Polski FIAT? I never looked back.

Please forgive me, mitzevo, but I think you have been unfair. Paint.NET is an excellent paint program, compared to MS Paint. Paint is the program to compare Paint.NET with, not Photoshop and The Gimp.

DC Website Help and Extras / Set up "App Wiki"
« Last post by Curt on June 25, 2007, 11:25 AM »
Many times we, the DCs, talk about various kind of programs. Programs for this type of work, and for that type of work. In fact, I think we talk about this so often that "we" have become experts on the subject! But there are many sites all over the Internet that are trying to say THIS program is the best of its kind, or The Best FREE, or whatever. So we may not need more of that kind.

But what I was thinking we might need and have the expertice to bring forth, is a kind of Wiki of Apps That Can Do This, or that. Say; "how many apps are there to choose between if I am to draw an icon? Are they any good? I tried the one everybody say is The Best, but I didn't like it, so what else is around?" Instead of starting a new thread under General Software Discussion every time and then stop there, we could set up a Wiki where all such kind of information were to be written and stored, and commented.

One day we should end up having THE Wiki of Apps! Lex App. Sites will put up links to such a Wiki, I imagine, and even more people will come bye and pay a visit to DonationCoder. Because of the App's Wiki, or whatever such a name should be.

What do you think of it? Vote the poll!
 :tellme:

 :-[
I would like you to vote (and tell your opinion), but I have forgotten how to set up a poll.

So say:
  • Yes, great idea
  • No, bad idea
  • - and tell WHY

Some months ago there was a spot in the news about a Danish grown up guy who actually sold all of his belongins and gave the money to two of this kind of 'beings'. He was hoping to get millions, but ended up paying hundreds of thousands.

- thats why I wrote "after 3 hours". But I have SEVERAL apps installed that have been a lot harder to understand how to use, than this - remember my tag: "IT-analphabetic" - so, because I can use it: everybody can use it. Just do; it is very forgiving.
