Check out the %customdate% option in the Preferences/File naming page, it's the closest possible match to your request.

yes, congrats Ath, enjoy the new start!
Thanks tomos, wraith808 and mouser for the encouragement :), I've been looking around silently for some time but at 55 that's not easy. But for this job I've been asked if I would be interested to join, and I'm quite sure I'm gonna like it very much.

Thanks x16wda for enlightning us with your alarmclock selection process, it is very helpful

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Extracting All Image Links from a Booru Website
« Last post by Ath on August 06, 2017, 05:06 AM »
As said, it's an example of how to get a lot of files from that particular website. Each page has to be downloaded to extract the actual download-url per image.

You might want to do some work on it, as downloading 800.000 files into 1 directory isn't something Windows is very fond of :o
Splitting the from/to range into several scripts allows you to run more scripts in parallel (number of CPU-cores seems reasonable), and this way you can run several sites in parallel too, but you might get your IP banned from the server, because of hammering the site with that many requests :-\
A possible speed improvement could be to not set the tray icon tooltip for each page, but only for each 10th or so, so you still have a notion of progress, especially if Windows is displaying it when it's set, that's usually quite slow. (NB: Haven't tested it myself.)

I'll carefully toss in the 'gadget' I bought yesterday: A VW Golfw 1.6 FSI Sportline (2006).

vwgolf2006ath.JPG

I bought it to commute to my new job where I'll be starting October 1st (actually Monday the 2nd), and the 45 km distance isn't easily doable by (e)bike, compared to the current 12 km.

I'm leaving my current job after 16+ years to pursue a new challenge, in a new environment, though still in software development, it's more to do with cloud, healthcare related application development, and less with 'hardcore code-crunching' (applications, libraries, standard components) and systems maintenance (the second 'chunk' of my current job, keeping stuff like JIRA, SVN, Jenkins, Confluence, Crucible, Artifactory, etc. running and all users happy). Plus all the accumulated specialized projects (license generator, internal libraries, JIRA external issue creator, stuff like that) I keep dragging behind me :tellme:
Now a couple of weeks vacation, then transferring all knowledge that isn't yet documented from my head to our Confluence and to colleagues heads/notebooks, and then a fresh start :D

I'm surprised there has been no reaction to this post yet ...
TL;DR;
If you keep writing blog-size entries like this in the forum, then don't be surprised if there will be less and less response. :-\

In the case of Firefox I can't rolling with the mouse wheel.
Most likely caused by FF having it's own, quite incompatible with default Windows windows, scrolling (rolling?) handling. Check out the Screenshot Captor forum about scrolling capture not working properly until mouser put in several dirty hacks to get scrolling captures working again.

it's working correctly i.e. yahoo weather is reporting accurately
I've been using it nearly since day 1, and the yahoo service has been flakey a lot over time, but the last couple of months the service is quite stable and the forecasts are reasonably accurate.

Next up (if I'll find some time in the next decade or so): x86 ASM and (more) COBOL.
x86 ASM I can relate to, but Cobol... remember wat Edsger W. Dijkstra said about that: "The use of COBOL cripples the mind; its teaching should, therefore, be regarded as a criminal offense." (ref)
(And Yes, I do know how to program in Cobol and can confirm/confess that Edsger's quote is true)

During Amazon's recent Prime Day they had the Yubikey 4 and Yubikey 4 Nano for 1/2 price, ($20 & $25 respectively).

So I picked up a Nano version.
Finally another Gadget, great

I actually got such Yubikey 4 from a colleague who won a dozen or so at a security conference a while back, with the intent of doing something useful with it and reporting that back to him. I'm still thinking about what to use it for :-[

Wait, I'll 'sign' this post with it: ccccccfcrviucerjeltjcktljbhdtkngbtnnklnhffjj
And another one just for fun: ccccccfcrviuvfthljdjttfdhefvnejnufeunjjvvuel

So, I've at least once done something useful with it now...

General Software Discussion / Re: Ubuntu (CLI) now available on the Windows Store
« Last post by Ath on July 11, 2017, 03:32 PM »
But what's wrong with building software on a real Linux system?

I'm not building software on/for/with Cygwin, just using it as a bash-like scripting environment to avoid the horrible cmd scripting, and re-use it on a real Linux box, if I want it. Powershell isn't going to fix that in the near future, and I'm not fixing the PS-blindness in my head for a while either :o

Most of the stuff I build is either Java or C# (also on Linux, see SedTester ;)) and a really small portion of C/C++ (next to a sleuth of other languages like Cobol, Delphi and whatnot), and a lot of that can also run on some taste of *ux OS.

The current offering is still quite restrictive, and keeps being restricted to insider previews it seems, I recall it was available a year ago, before the 1607 release of Win 10? Or was that another incarnation/beta. (MS policy: Buy our next version!) ?

General Software Discussion / Re: Ubuntu (CLI) now available on the Windows Store
« Last post by Ath on July 11, 2017, 02:55 PM »
I can't fully comprehend why I should want to have an ubuntu in my Windows? If I want that now I'll use Cygwin, on any Windows release I like, not just that insider preview. If I want a full Linux, I'll run a full, official, distro in a local or hosted VM, or on bare hardware. And using shared data from both Windows and Linux is as 'easy' as using shared storage. So, can someone please enlighten me?

He also created his 888'th post, must be a very lucky number somewhere

Also, MS Word has special options for inserting a watermark in your document and printed output: Insert a watermark in Word
Similar features exist in MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
