General Software Discussion / Re: RSS feed for updated software?

Yes, that is the only way it makes sense - and if you know how to code this, it will make you money if you want to, because such an app is not to be found yet. I guess we would know.

Hmmm..., only now I can see how un-clear my words were. No, you cannot choose at all. ALL updates and new programs are mailed.

Sorry, I should have said this in my first post: the RSS links from the Major and Snap are not limited to your choice of programs. The version on the picture is from the very old RSS Popper - RSS news to be delivered right into the mail inbox.

General Software Discussion / Y'z Shadow
« Last post by Curt on August 03, 2007, 10:14 AM »
From time to time I am a big fan of eye candy; be it a beautiful woman or stuff to make my PC look better. One FREE, small app I have come across is named Y'z Shadow and is the kidbrother of Y's Toolbar - both to be found at WinMatrix. The list of features is limited to making all windows cast a shadow [periode].[/periode] but it really is/are ALL windows, even context menus and drop-down boxes, and the shadow is discrete and tasteful. I like this little app:

Y'z Shadow:

Shadow.gif

The tree icons are from Y'z Toolbar:

shadowtoolbar.gif

Big brother, Y'z Toolbar, can do some more, but I have only begun to investigate the features:

Features:

Change the toolbar icons in Explorer and IE.
It can use 17x17 pixels to 64x64 pixels as the icon image sizes for the toobar themes.
Use either bmp and png for the icon image files to create the toolbars. Using the png file format allows for alpha blending, the user has the ability to create smooth icon toolbar images with drop shadows and without jaggy edges.

It does not rewrite any Windows system files.

Access Y'z ToolBar by right-clicking the toolbar in Explorer or IE and choosing it from the toolbar customizing pop-up menu.

Makes it possible to hide the Windows flag (throbber)in Explorer or in IE's toolbar.

Available in different languages (Japanese and English).
-Y'z Toolbar

FREE at http://www.winmatrix...x.php?showtopic=1161

Edit: Y'z Toolbar will not cooperate with Quizo's QT TabBar.
Edit2: Y'z does not write to registry, but is to be placed in Start.

Thanks for verifying, lanux. Are you saying it is posible to after-install 1.1 on Vista?

Thanks a lot for answering me, friends. The picture is very clear now; I am certainly gonna keep them all.

Thinking of what Wordzilla said, maybe it is better (when time comes) to upgrade to Vista from XP, rather than starting with Vista, otherwise I won't have .NET 1.1 and old programs may play unstable or not play at all?

... (The UI of my ancient release of Mobysaurus, which was built specifically for .NET 1.1, get rendered differently and distortedly  ;) in 2.0-only systems.)

So my suggestion is: if you have them, keep them all.
:tellme:

BTW, .NET 3.5 is coming.

I looked at some 3.5 paper some days ago, but have forgotten what it said, but I think I had the impression 3.5 will be Vista only?

Before I had Revo Uninstaller and Total Uninstall I "always" used RegSeeker to find any leftovers from uninstalled programs, but I will never (again) use it to clean my registry: I tried that feature once, and once was enough...

Thanks, Darwin. I have been there, but didn't find the specific forum I was searching. But with all this BETA Community stuff, the old forum might not exist anymore, I guess.

BTW;
Yes, I live a few miles from Sweden, but we do have Microsoft in Denmark too...  ;)

Very convincing, Wordzilla. Thanks!

But being here, I am bound to ask "YOU" for a link to the American Microsoft support forum (you know (I hope): "Ask the forum, and you might even get an answer from a MS support coworker"), because every time I've seeked it  I have been redirected to the Danish MS site, which cannot help in any way if I don't have a lot of money - and I've lost the direct link together with my previous PC, and cannot remember the right name of the forum.

Hmmm...

That leaves me with Appget. Also very usefull, but not automated like Filehippo:

Anyway; ArtRage 2.5 seems to be very capable!

« Last post by Curt on August 02, 2007, 02:57 PM »
I did not uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 when I upgraded to .NET Framework 3.0 - I didn't dare!
Today I was updating Paint.NET, and at the end of the installation it said it would optimize to my XP's performance. This however took forever and ever, so I looked inside Process Explorer and was surprised to see that the handled Windows file was named something with ".NET Framework 2", and not "3" as I have. So I am wondering if I can uninstall .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 without risking too much?? And if I can: in what order?

Arhhh, now I think I know. Maybe ArtRage is part of the programs Filehippo Update Checker will handle? That must be the answer, yes!

- meaning that I merely have forgotten the upgrading. Because I know I havent beeen using ArtRage for at least two weeks. But if Filehippo made me upgrade together with a lot of other programs, I could simply have forgotten I did it.

I had to go into help - about to confirm that I have 2.5.13 installed

hahaha! How did this happen? I too have 2.5.13 - and I didn't know!! Auto-install without telling??!!! Not even a "upgraded successfully" or whatever!! I am realy really "surprised"!!

6642
Did you upgrade from inside the program, or did you just download the new file and installed on top of the old?

(I am not willing to clear my cache)

Friends, you are confusing me! From what I have been told upgrading from 2.2 to 2.5 is FREE, but if you cannot wait until 2.5 is being passed on to the registered users you will have to buy it. Isn't that the way it is? Or did they ran from the free upgrade promise (see second image:)?

Are you sure X1 is free?

X1 5.6.3 Build 3453 from April 06 2007 is 'always' FREE at Snapfiles:

Thanks, Darwin. But I have to say it made me a little nervous to realize that this means that I have made 111 posts in just 23 days!  :-[

But of course it is a lot worse to me that number 777 was posted July 7'th 2007 - 7,7,7 - and I didn't get a screenshot!!!   :(

Interesting experience (with the ME), app. Mine is however somewhat different. Yesterday it was the third day since I last cleansed my reg', so I ran Eusing RegCleaner again. It found 1137 errors (because a lot of programs will leave all sorts behind when they are "uninstalled" - I will not think too hard about how many errors the reg' would have, did I not clean it regularly). Eusing did not and has not 'ever' caused any kind of mis-behaviour to my XP.

Edit: I remember several times when "cleaning" the reg'   using other "cleaners"   actually did cause harm - this post was merely to recommend the Eusing cleaner.
