What I'm doing right now is a combination of things.  I took the extensions from foam but used the format of obsidian- I write in obsidian or in vs code.  Really liking it so far.

built on Visual Studio Code and GitHub:
This seems to be a little similar another one

Stunning how many there are popping up

That's not a different one.  It's used by Foam.

So, general question about Zettels- do you maintain more than one for different aspects?  Or just break up stuff within based on tags and folders?

Foam is a personal knowledge management and sharing system inspired by Roam Research, built on Visual Studio Code and GitHub:
https://foambubble.github.io/foam/

Another great one.  Thanks!

tiddlyroam is a free, open source alternative to Roam. It is a notetaking app that works the way your brain does: networked, personal and infinitely customisable:
https://tiddlyroam.org/

That's actually really interesting.  But it doesn't fit my paradigm of plain text files for the notes.  I really love the idea though.  Might have to revisit it later.

And second... I'm 29.

To some of us on here... you're still a kid  ;D

Hi,
Sorry, I dont understand . what is 'you just enable the checkbox mouser showed above'  .. what box do i enable ??? Thanks

In the image that mouser posted, he highlighted a section in yellow with a red border.  In that section, there is a checkbox.  Click it.

Probably not, unless you want to hack the source code. Like Pascal/Delphi, Go usually produces static binaries.
edit: Just imagine that you had not edited your post.

LOL.  I figured the answer out on my own looking in your rar file.  I was only looking at the repo at the time.
658
That will only help after exported though :(  I'm working on the docs in other tools while it's still in the obsidian vault.

You've been 'tasting' a lot of chocolate!  ;D

The good thing, since they are just text files, you can use all these software simultaneously.

That's what I'm doing, and what my one requirement for trying any software is- that it has to work with plain text.
661
That's really cool!
662
You crossed it out... is that not true?
663
And what is stopping you from using Direct Access DOS? It can be found here

Well it is a 16bit application and Windows 10 no longer runs this. and even if it does, it does not read long file pathnames.

It is okay if there are no such programs around. I am only venturing to ask.

You could run it in an emulator.  You'd still have the problem with long file names, but that could work, depending on how it launches processes.

Regarding my question about headers, here is a discussion about it and an example.

https://forum.zettel...tel-should-look-like

That's exactly what I use- except I don't put the Tags label beside the tags.

Finding programs on Android isn't straightforward. First I would prefer them to concur with Obsidian. But then I need them to work with Typing Hero which has kicked out a few of my preferred apps.

The biggest problem for me with finding something on Android (and the reason that I'm thinking of going back to the []() notation for links) is the [[]] notatation.

which markdown flavor is recommended for the best compatibility and long term usage?

I just use basic markdown- the only thing I add is tables.  The other stuff I've found that I don't need, and it works with everything.

I just had to share this - someone's graph.

https://www.dropbox....4%2016%20PM.gif?dl=0

It's pretty crazy that someone can have that indepth of a graph!
666
You might be able to put in a request in the git repo to see if they might know how to do it.  Unfortunately, I've never worked with Note Station nor that format, so other than a few Google searches, I can't be of more help than that offhand.
667
Maybe it was an earlier version?

After conversion you will get:

Directories named like exported notebooks;
Notes in those directories as markdown-syntax plain text files with all in-line images in-place;
Assigned tags and links to attachments at the beginning of note text;
All images and attached files in media sub-directories inside notebook directories.
668
Not sure how well this works, but there is a tool that extracts the notes from an nsx file into Markdown.

https://github.com/M...-Station-to-markdown

From there, it's a short hop to HTML.

There's also a script that imports into Joplin, which might be helpful for maintaining structure.

https://github.com/K...otestation-to-joplin

I think DS Note is the older version, and Note Station is the one in their newest OS.  Not sure if DS Note has the same functionality as Note Station, but you can export to HTML files:

The only idiosyncracy now with Obsidian for me is that if you create a document from a link, it puts it in the root folder so you have to move it.  Annoying, but I'm liking it a lot more.

If FAR is a knife, then PowerGREP is a damn spaceship.
;D

dnGrep - https://dngrep.github.io

Looks a lot different from when I tried it out a few years ago.  I might have to give it another look!

Update: Found out I still have the last version that I used installed- from 2009!

Definitely a lot different!

I agree with you I would like that ID hidden.  I don't know a way around it.
Edit the markdown file so that the ID is commented out or put into front matter. Though that doesn't help if you review the files in edit mode.

Maybe zettlr will ignore anything hidden,  but I doubt it.

You can do it with [[ID|Text to be shown]] - I think that's the syntax.  Make the ID the link, and describe it with text.
674
PowerGREP is the king of this.  However, it demands a King's ransom.  That said, the $159 is cheap if you need that power.  Add that to regexbuddy and your search for things is pretty powerful.
I keep telling myself that PowerGREP would be total overkill for anything I might want to do. It's blatantly obvious,  I shouldn't have to tell myself even once.
But,
It also strikes me that having it would mean I'd never have to think about the best way of doing a lot of things. And not having to think can be quite valuable.

In my job I had to do this a lot.  Not as much now, but I did before I moved into more of an architectural position rather than coding.  I got regexbuddy to preserve my sanity long before I convinced them to get it for the other devs.  I put off getting this because of sticker shock.  Looking back on things- I got things done.  But this would have paid for itself many times over.  It still could, in all honesty.

But it's rare other than IDEs I pay that much for software.

Those lusting after PowerGREP, but unable to stomach the price: don't overlook BareGrep, which is much more affordable and very, very fast.  Has been mentioned on DC before (long ago).

That does look cool.  Still lusting after PowerGREP because of the integrated editing...

IN that sense, what I want did work using Zettlr and Obsidian.  I loaded my zettlr files in obsidian and the web links were there, very nice.  The problem is this....in zettlr, it file ID is read from that specifically formatted date item that usually is inserted automatically.  Then there is a separate "title" that is more descriptive.  When that is imported into obsidian, you only see the date number in the web visual, no title.  This is rough as the screen is just full of numbers, useless.

They have an add on that alters those links - I haven't looked at it to know if it will solve your problem.

Markdown importer: imports your Markdown export from Zettelkasten systems and Roam Research into Obsidian.

It seemed like it was to take care of the cases where the zettel id and the description were munged or separated.  If not, you could see what people think on the community.  I'm sure you're not the only one with this problem.  The features board is located at https://forum.obsidian.md/c/plugins/10
