... it is too big for my USB Flash Drive so the install fails leaving those apps that were installed unusable because the final part of the installation sets up the program menu and start files.

Sorry, Carol, but I simly could not understand how this can be. Isn't the size meant to fit a floppy; 1.4 MB? How can you have a stick [Edit: Flash Drive] that smal??

You need to know how to code, in order to use this program. The tutorial inside the program, StyleSpread Quickstart, is very fine and it is easy to make the first simple page, following the instructions, even though I have never in my life tried to do something like this before. But the problem to me was the minute I left the quickstart and was to create the first page of my own, then I really didn't know what to type. So I removed the program. If you are familiar with css coding, then this is really a fine program, I would say, but different. Absolutely different. It is so different that they begin the quickstart with these words:

Thank you for choosing StyleSpread!

This software works differently from other CSS editing programs. Regardless of your CSS experience level, if you've never used StyleSpread before, don't skip the quick start! It is essential to understand the basic work flow of the software. It should only take 5 minutes.

Quickstart page 1:

If you are familiar with this simple css coding -
I would say it certainly must be worth the twenty dollar bill.

Use the pre-view page, and number the brackets, like: (attachimg=1) (attachimg=2)  -but use square brackets [] - in the order you attach them "(more attachments)"
6455
Hmmm.... if you like that column you should keep it of course, but I do need to stress that I did not suggest to "Show hidden files", but to NOT "Hide known file types"

Do you need to see the file types column at all? You could go to Tools > Folder settings > Show, and remove the mark from "Hide known file types", and then remove the types column. I did that.

I guess you are so old that you once upon a time used to write your name with something called a pencil. I know I did. And I always signed my (paper) notes with /Curt, to have the signature (= the slash in the signature) signal the end of what was before (to the left of) the slash.

Curt, copy the links that nite_monkey posted and paste them in another tab or window. This way you'll avoid the hotlinking protection

"hotlink protection" - ohh, there are so many things to consider, aren't there.

- Thanks, Lashiec!

Thanks a lot, you Selkies, for applying me with this extra chance to get Selkie at the promotion cut-down price. I bought it, but as I wrote in an earlier post, I will need to have my CD drive fixed or replaced, before I am able to actually USE Selkie for what she is worth, though.

Also [wink] Thanks, for not just making yet another "retrieve deleted files" application
- they already go thirteen by the dozen...[/wink]

Why not try a Free but simple & efficient?

Why? Because:

... the big question inside my head is if the program will resque those files that were saved the normal way in Explorer (but are now untouchable because Explorer is crashing), or if it merely will save those files that have been deleted. To my (lack of) understanding, the programs you were telling about, will not offer to give me back all these "normal saved" files, will they? And: will Selkie?

- meaning that this thread is not about yet another "Recover your deleted files", free or not, but on the contrary it is about recovering your normal files which were never deleted but are unreachable to you because Windows / Explorer keeps crashing - and you had no backup.

That is the kind of program I am in the need of right now, and that is why I started this thread. But other than that, I am sure this Restoration  you are recommending is a fine piece of program, so: Thanks for telling anyway, AHMalik!

And Curt, we've got a way you can get around the time limit for a few more hours (it's very sneaky!). Try this: http://www.bitsdujou...&secure=Tu24Se27

Welcome at DC, Selkie-man!

The "way" was too sneaky for me, I am afraid. After several 're-tryings' it is still standing on $99.99

Thanks again again, Darwin.

I accidental learned that it has a very fine preview, if I click the image and keep holding down the mouse button. Nice!

I couldn't decide which one to use, but I finally grabbed the FREE Rename Master from JoeJoe, the Jackass! It is too soon for me to say anything about the program, but here is a screenshot to hopefully tell more than a thousand words:

RenameMaster.gif

Though, but maybe it is adequate to add a few words from the author himself:

Features

- Intelligent number sorting
- JPEG/MP3 tag support and many more Meta-Variables
- Auto-Preview support
- "Scipts" to save commonly used renaming options
- joejoe.gif and [?] command prompt style wildcards for replacing and remove options
- "Undo" button so a renaming operation can be rolled back
- Floating thumbnail window for viewing pictures and optional thumbnail file list view
- Optional Explorer integration for right-clicking on folders or using "Send To"
- no install program is needed.

Thanks a lot, Darwin - I am not sure I ever would have figured this out myself, because it quite frankly seems a little strange to do it this way only, not having the option to do it via the normal settings in View or Tools. Even more strange I think it is, that one must db-click on the name of the image file, but not on the picture itself, in order to see the image in a ext. viewer. If picture A is marked, and I db-click picture B, it will open picture A. I find this feature really odd.

... looks like something you could do with a BartPE disc.

I have the UBCD4WIN but have so far only used Bart to create a new Installation CD. I didn't understand that I could use it for this other purpose too.

I have just downloaded and started trialing XYplorer, so I don't yet know anything about it, but I cannot see any picture preview thumbnails. Is this feature one of the 'trial limitations', or do I have to do something special? In the "Configuration" > "Thumbnails"  I have marked "Cache thumbnails", and all extensions in "Previewed Formats", and in XYplorer > "View" > "Cache"  I have clicked "Refresh Thumbs Cache" - but so far no thumbnails!

If the preview thumbnail feature is one the Trial Limitations, then this is "unlucky" (to put it mildly), because preview thumbnails is a very important reason for me   if I am to purchase XYplorer at all - so important that I simply won't buy it if I cannot first check out the feature...

But maybe "you" purchased XYplorer and can show some screenshots of the preview thumbnails in action?  :tellme: Please!

It's definitely something I'd buy without checking the demo first.

My problem on this matter is that my CD drive temporarily is out of order,
but I have to buy this program TODAY  if ever.

As I have added to my first post, they have an okay demo video on how the program works (direct link: 8MB, WMV). But speaking of videos, you really should take the time to watch this other promotion video, it is quite entertaining!

Both videos are placed at http://www.tugboaten...prises.com/index.php
