so apart from a few apps that 'must' be on a given monitor, all other movements are effectively random?

Just trying to understand how you thought an 'app' might go about managing this

I'm worried about a bunch of worry-warts getting all psychotic and doing crazy stuff. :P ;D

isn't that what the postal service is for?

I think a lot of this IP protectionism is indicative of a loss of confidence on the part of many. The only people that try (in my experience) to wring every last nickel out of everything they come up with are the people who fear their creativity is a finite resource. That they only have so much originality in them - and once it's gone, it's gone.

not quite, seems most of it is generated by people that have no creativity (accounting doesn't count) and are banking (literally) on wringing everything they can out of someone elses efforts, ie most any of the media vendors, publishers, the families and/or estates of long dead creators...

Um, this chair is a fire hazard.

Notice the smoke?

Yeah, that nichrome is getting too hot while melting the wax, the chair could ignite the flammable wax and cause a far more serious problem than just a DRM'd chair.
-SeraphimLabs (March 04, 2013, 05:22 PM)

Are you trying to say that people that buy the chair are just looking to get burned? :P ;D

clearly if you get to that stage you must be a pirate, so this is justified

of course the flow on from this is that all chairs that don't catch fire are a)infringing on their patent, and b)clearly the work of pirates.  Either way, legal action will have to be taken to bring the culprits to heel

The old London taxi cabs were a good bet. They had a trap door in the floor at the back.

The bonus with the bucket and spade is that they are dual-purpose - most often, they are used to make sandcastles when we stop at a beach!

plus you don't have drive around with that body in the boot trying to find a hardware or garden supplier...

you should be able to find a solution in the coding snacks section.

others may be able to point you to specific threads, or search the forum as this functionality (or very near) has been requested several times

that's an outstanding resource

except that it's only in ear models :(

that said there is also this page on that site as well that covers ALL types (I actually found this last night, so it's funny that you posted the above this morning)

Plantronics GameCom 780.  I would still be using them if not for the fact that I decided to go wireless.  Since they enclose the ears, some people complain about comfort, but I never had a problem with them- they seem large enough that I don't know how anyone could complain, but I figured I'd give you that caveat.

I had been looking at these as well - they seem to get a fair rep, but I stumble on the plantronics part (they make lots of solid comm's accessories, but audio gear?)

Have they been?  I still see them on the Logitech site.  They usually take discontinued items down pretty quickly...  they show as out of stock, but not discontinued.

could be my bad - none of the 'local' suppliers appear to have any, nor do they appear to be expecting fresh stock.  Discontinued was a logical conclusion(ohhh, I see where I went wrong ;D)

They have a lesser cost wired version also (G35).

was checking that and it appears to have a design flaw that the wireless one doesnt:
amazon.com review + comments

they also have one other (significant) flaw in that they have been discontinued (else I probably would have just bought a pair 8))

for my purposes a mic isn't strictly necessary - I don't play online as I don't have the bandwidth, and LAN days are generally small enough that we can (and do) just shout at each other

As you say it's very hard to pick the sweet spot on the cost/benefit curve (monster cables anyone?), and unfortunately I can't afford to just keep buying stuff till I find something I like (would that I could!)

FWIW these seem to be well regarded

I've been extremely happy with pretty much any headphone made by Sennheiser. They make a quality product. And they're (IMO) reasonably priced.

likewise I believe AKG and audio technica

trouble is there are almost too many choices, and unfortunately they've also become a fashionable accessory (I'm amazed at how many people I see walking around wearing $300 beats headphones) so any decision has to be based on independent (HA!) reviews, or feedback from other users.  At some point the whole process becomes arbitrary and you end up just picking something (anything!!)...

those $15 specials are starting to look attractive again :-\

Have you had a look at this?: Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 - Mini-Review
Not sure what the local price might be currently - wherever you live.

yeah, I'd seen this, but I didn't particularly want wireless (OK, I wouldn't mind, but I don't really want the hassle of another battery powered device), and they retail here for about $165.

That might be reasonable, but it's a bit beyond what my budget (and my conscience!!) can run to

I have a Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000. I like it. I bought a few of them off eBay for about $20 each, IIRC.

But I guess I'm not sure how it compares to the expensive "gaming" headsets, or what makes a headset better for gaming as opposed to anything else.

me either, hence my question 8) (and my last set cost $15 )

I suspect I may be getting sucked in by the marketing blurbs regarding 'surround sound', but if I don't ask I won't know.

looking for some recommendations for a gaming headset as my current set failed on the weekend (I could probably repair them, but it's not worth the effort)

I'd prefer a wired set, and no more than about $100 (I just can't justify much more than that)

Logitech G35's seem to have a good rep, but have been discontinued...

anyone?
