But if you really want a minimalist tool, try my MiniCap, the little sister to Screenshot Captor -- it basically works via commandline and does not stay resident.

My favourite *easy* screen capture "programme" was minicap via FARR (as an alias). I lost track of it after my last hardware update. Was my favourite - would be nice if it came with FARR by default (dont know if that would cause other headaches). Just re-"installed" the alias, it came with an outdated minicap so I wont link to it (I replaced the minicap with up-to-date files, will see how I get on...)

Edit/ although I see there's an Alias only download that presumably works with an installed minicap

Make sure it's really worth it to you [ending up "in a jail cell, on a scaffold, or before the wall"]. And above all, make sure you really believe.

It's never worth imo - it's not that I'm looking to debate it - it's too abstract to argue...
You (one) either believe it could be worth it, or you dont.

PS, I have this saved, so I think that's how I resolved it (I'm not recommending this - just throwing it out there!)

Yep that looks like the how. However diskpart is not for the uninitiated, as it's an extremely powerful utility that tends to reward type-Os with tragedy.

I got away with it, thankfully.
I remember it was confusing trying to figure out which drive was which....

It sounds like the card is working for you, but I remembered this from the other thread, & wondered - could the problem be related to the size of the card?

IN preparation for my next vacation, I purchased the Sansa Clip Zip.  Not because I didn't already have 3 or 4 mp3 players, just because.  It's really quite cool!!  I'm no mp3 player expert, but I have followed it closely over the years simply because I'm all about music.  I'll break down what makes this thing so freaking cool.  If you've ever had a Sansa Clip of any model, I'm probably preaching to the choir:
1) Super cheap.  I got the 8GB model for $70, and the 4 GB model is $50.

Good to know as I just ordered on (for £30 (GBP) for the 8Gb model plus model). A Xmas present for a friend for the gym.

I must admit I am tempted to get one too - just for the microSDHC slot (max 16Gb by the way - don't know why as I thought one of the pounts of SDHC was to remove artificial capacity limits).

I unintentionally made an active primary partition on a usb stick a while back - it did cause some trouble if I booted with it plugged in.
Damned if I can remember how I got rid of it - it took a bit of looking...

But maybe in this case it's not important?

PS, I have this saved, so I think that's how I resolved it (I'm not recommending this - just throwing it out there!)

1. Windows +R
2. Type "cmd"
3. At the prompt type "diskpart"
4. then after the ">" symbol type " list disk"

DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 Online 28 GB 1536 KB
Disk 1 Online 233 GB 993 KB

5.Now select the disk which you want to make INACTIVE (For instance if i want to make my Disk 1 as active i.e where the OS is installed and REQUIRED to boot, i need to select the drive which i want to make INACTIVE. In my example DISK 0)

DISKPART> SELECT DISK 0
Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

6. Type "list partition"

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 28 GB 1024 KB

7. Since there is a single partition on DISK 0, select it by issuing the command "select partition 1"

DISKPART> select partition 1

Partition 1 is now the selected partition.

8.Type "inactive" - this will make disk 0 partition 1 as inactive

=============================
Explanation : This error crops up because you have been in Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and selected more than 1 drive as ACTIVE together with the one which was already active- the one where your OS was .

Point to remember : THERE SHOULD BE ONLY ONE ACTIVE DRIVE SO YOU CANT SET MORE THAN ONE DRIVE AS ACTIVE

********************************IMPORTANT THING TO DO FIRST ***************************************
Also since you cant get your OS to boot you must specifically select the boot disk from where to boot.
On my PC it was F12-> then i selected "hard disk" from where i had all my drives listed.
From here you must select the drive where your OS was initially installed
Finally run the command 1-8 above the disable the other drives as ACTIVE.
************************************************************************************************

Hope i helped you

If it isn't a silly question how exactly did you manage to install a Dell copy of Windows 7 onto a Fujitsu computer - I though Dell windows disks looked at the BIOS for activation and would only install on Dell hardware?
-Carol Haynes (March 05, 2012, 09:19 AM)

I bought a Dell copy of Win7 end of last summer and installed it on a custom built machine no problem. I've seen one Dell logo somewhere (cant remember where).

At some stage there was a court case here (.de) that said that you could install oems on any machine. I dont know did that have any influence on the actual install discs...
6233
I always buy higher spec Canon models which use 4, 5 or 6 cartridges - which have no electronics.
-Carol Haynes (March 04, 2012, 09:14 AM)

I'll avoid the 6 cartridges in future - that costs a lot and I dont know if they last any longer than just four cartridges...
BTW, I thought they (canon) all had a chip on the cartridge now?

I rarely use renamers & was looking for a quick fix
Needed to rename (recovered) photos after the EXIF date "Taken"

Was very easy to find the list of "Custom Date Formats" so I used
%Y-%m-%d_%H%M-%S
which gave me:
2011-07-18_1945-22.jpg

Very nice :) thanks for the tip

there has been a bit of a "bandwagon" lately here...

???

yeah, sorry, stupid word, but I was at a loss. I think the post reads ok if you just leave out that clause - if not just read mouser's quote :-)
it sums up what I wanted to express...
6242
I don't really knows whats happening with the political propaganda being spammed on DC recently.

I wouldnt phrase it that way myself, but there has been a bit of a "bandwagon" lately here...
Info is often presented in a senstational and/or biased fashion, everyone agrees, and it can feel like a closed shop.
As mouser said earlier today:

...the real issues are [often] a little more nuanced than our first reactions.

There was a similar request a while back by another member for something like this.
:tellme: I think that might have been me.

Request / idea was to show a list of shortcuts overlaid on the desktop (to one side) related to the current focused app.
New app => new list.

IDEA ~ Show List of Shortcuts overlaid on Desktop
6245
Thanks Iain -
I'll use that for a bit, it'll help me learn some of those nice shortcuts
I never knew Win+B, that's a really nice one :-*
-
The Alt one's for moving/resizing windows are nice too, but seem a bit quirky. I'm not sure how to stop them working - Esc undos any changes in window position/size. The only way I can see is a mouse click which kind of defeats the purpose of using fancy shortcuts...

Living Room / Re: YouTube Identifies Birdsong As Copyrighted Music
« Last post by tomos on February 28, 2012, 09:16 AM »
Saw reddit going mad over this too. Personally I prefer the slightly more accurate title of "Computer algorithm gets false positive".

False positive would be the logical conclusion, but the user seems to claim otherwise:

I disputed their claim with YouTube’s system — and Rumblefish refuted my dispute, and asserted that: ‘All content owners have reviewed your video and confirmed their claims to some or all of its content: Entity: rumblefish; Content Type: Musical Composition.’ So I asked some questions, and it appears that the birds singing in the background of my video are Rumblefish’s exclusive intellectual property.”

or are they being sarcastic there at the end :-\

Living Room / Re: @mouser, I have a small quibble about your donation system ...
« Last post by tomos on February 27, 2012, 09:41 AM »
BUT.. When someone (like you) sends some donationcredits to the "site forum account" -- i don't see that message -- no human does.  Which means it never gets replied to.  This is what you are talking about.  The reason you don't get a reply is because no real person is logged into that forum account.  But it's really unacceptable not to have it acknowledged personally.  I will fix.  My apologies.

That would be good.
I thought the OP was more about this example though:

Somebody donates to me & I forget to thank them (or I away on my 2 week holliers). This scenario would be covered by an automatic acknowledgement.
OTOH, as I remember you get immediate notification [edit] on the webpage [/edit] that the money has been sent to xyz. I'm personally happy enough with that...

But IMHO the confirmation should be made/sent only after it's opened/read by the recipient
~
but then that wouldnt cover the me on my holidays scenario in the OP
