When I was young we didn't have computers! I can still remember the first available pocket calculators which seemed pretty whizzo at the time - even if you did have to learn RPN to use them ;)

Added option to change the step speed of the dimming. Also corrected the mousemove bug (missed a global variable).

This says 1-255 with 255 being the fastest dimming.

I find it works with small numbers (I have it set to 20 and it works) but at large numbers it doesn't seem to work it just doesn't go into screensaver mode at all. (I have found >80 doesn't seem to do anything - but I haven't tried between 20 and 80).

Just discovered NewsFox which seems to work nicely (at least for a few RSS streams - it tends to fall over if you add loads of stream). You can download it from http://newsfox.mozdev.org/

Currently I have 23 RSS streams installed and it works great - just click on Tools > NewsFox or creat a shortcut to chrome://newsfox/content/newsfox.xul

The most useful feed I have found so far (which also be added to the live bookmarks bar) is https://www.donation...type=rss;action=.xml which gives you unread DC forum posts.

In FireFox you click on + above the feed list to add a feed (using the feed URL). Once a feed is added click on it and hit refresh to load up the new messages. You can also right click on the feed and set some options, one of which is to remove old messages (ideal for the unread mail list).

Here is a screen shot:

I haven't tried it yet but it looks good (and has a couple of good reviews on Snapfiles).

Worth checking out at http://www.hexagora.com/home.htm

Note there are two versions - a freeware version (1.9 updated 13th April) and a shareware version (which has a 30 day trial period).

Brilliant - one of my cats say "hello" when you talk to her, unfortunately she is camera shy!

Just found it at http://www.microsoft...oys/xppowertoys.mspx here is the download link http://download.micr...alcPowertoySetup.exe

Here's what it says:

Power Calculator

With this PowerToy you can graph and evaluate functions as well as perform many different types of conversions.

Worth checking out here http://www.paessler.com/psi/download

Supports Internet Explorer/Mozilla based browsers (including Maxthon etc). Allows you to inspect all sorts of information about websites visited (including CSS sheets etc.) and comes with lots of plugins built in.

They are not always quick to update Firefox plugins but I have checked and 1.5.0.2 is supported.

It comes with its own 'Analyzing Browser' which looks like this:

But also has toolbars for IE and Firefox and right click context menus.

Here is an example of the sort of analysis output it provides:

Hey that's a brilliant list ... definitely worth bookmarking.

Here's a screen video I made for a friend the other day:

BB Flashback 1.5
http://data.wr975.com/patchcd.html  (218 KB)

And to compare, here's a video made with Wink

Wink 2.0
http://data.wr975.com/test.htm (480 kb)

Interesting thanks. It is interesting to note the file sizes as BBFlashback seems to produce a longer more complex movie in less than 50% of the space.

Actually Microsoft do a decent free calculator replacement which includes things like units conversion functions, scientific functions etc. and different skins. I can't remember where I got it from but you can probably find it in the MS Windows XP downloads page.

I'm not sure if I made a mistake installing 2.3.1 because when I start my computer I get an error saying Sanboxie service isn't running please reinstall. Running Sandboxie again from the desktop icon seems to solve this problem. I can't get Internet Explorer to work at all - not that I want to use IE but given that it is explicitly set up to run IE it doesn't feel good that it is app. that fails to run.

You say that a new folder structures and dummy registry are set up within Sandboxie but how does an application deal with the need for information stored on the hard disc and in the main registry?

I know it is a work in progress and free but I do think some really clear documentation on what is going on should be available as the website and the help info installed with Sandboxie are cursory at best in terms of detail.

Instant solution - just click on the programs taskbar icon and it will automatically minimize the window. Click again to restore it.

Another way is to ensure that "Desktop" is visible on the Quick Launch bar - this will minimize everything so you can see the desktop.
-Carol Haynes (April 13, 2006, 03:39 AM)
The user could also drag the window out of the way manually than...
No, all this should function automatically without use interference. ;)

How's that going to work ?? The computer reads your mind and decides when you are looking for an unrelated desktop item and then hides the appropriate windows just long enough for you to double click on it???

moerl, don't get too distressed over what seems like abandonment by a developer. While it's not a good sign with ever-changing software, such as internet apps, it's not uncommon for a utility app like a calculator, registry cleaner, conversion software, image resizer, and so on will be built and then left alone at a stable version. In Moffsoft's case, they've done everything they intend to do with it.

I think I agree with that - there must come a point with Calculator software that it does its thing and there is not much worth adding.

If you can't find an ultimate calculator out there then you could use a spreadsheet which will let you calculate pretty much what you like and write macros to automate stuff.

I am experimenting with Sandboxie and I must say I am finding it a bit flaky - maybe it is my system but I can't even get it to run Internet Explorer. Some programs seem to work fine but I haven't tried installing a program in there.

Trouble is I am not sure how it works. DOes it actually write to disk in the normal way (including the registry) and keep a record so that it can delete it or is it more clever than that? If it is just doing this then I can see all sorts of problems arising if you have any programs running at the same time outside sandboxie that could potentially access the same files and registry settings.

If you create a shortcut for the script (rather than running it directly) and then right click on the shortcut you can set a global hotkey for that shortcut. Then you should be able to toggle with a single hotkey press to your hearts content ;)
