General Software Discussion / Re: Maxto-very interesting...
« Last post by kartal on March 08, 2009, 07:52 PM »
Maxto is nice but there is something is missing very badly, which is lack of shortcut support for enabling and disabling itself.
602
I guess it is windows related then.

scancode, I tried it it is getting better. However there is another problem with current version. It unmaximize the maximized window. I maximize the window, then invoke win+d(for desktop) and I see that the application window is not maximized at all.

I experienced that too. Windows quirk?

I'll add the ini file you talk about in your next post.
603
I hope that the tool remembers last application(or window name) everytime I run it. I know I can make a bat file but I think at some point it would be great if there was an .ini file :)

Hi

This is a very cool app but I personally would like a more brutal approach. I just want it to be more agressive on unresponsive applications. It tries to close or kill which fine but ultimate termination of the process would be more helpful in certain situations

thanks

Scancode, that seems to be a good start for me. This one puts spesific application on to the desktop. THere are couple problems with it thou.

1-) If the user messes up the order of windows or change the state of that particular app it wont work, one needs to run PinToDesktop again and again.

2-) The Window name and ahk class name is not enough in some cases. For example I just tried with Thunderbird and both thunderbird and firefox has same class name. Secondly The window title of Thunderbird changes based on which email inbox you have open.

607
Also this kind of applications(minimizeother) seem to mess up windows states(size, place, maximized etc) so I hate to go back and try to restore their original states, considering that I am running at least 20 applications at the same time this is a huge task.
608
Thanks but that is totally opposite of what I am looking for. I am not looking for some minimizer at all. I am looking for a way to show an particular application when I minimize all. This one seems to minimize everything else except the active window which is useless to me because in my case the application I will want would be somewhere within "inactive" applications that needs to show up when I minimize all.  I want this app to stay on top of the desktop so anytime I go to-open-show desktop I want to see this particular application not the desktop. I need this application to cover the desktop.

here's what might be an answer

Hi,

I will give a try. Is this something that needs to be run everytime I restart windows? Does it need to run in the background?

So I am really hoping that there is a way to keep an application on the desktop while rest of the apps can be minimized without destroying their window states and sizes.

Try PinToDesktop :)

usage: pintodesk windowname/classname

example: pintodesk Untitled - Notepad

note: no quotes

Download:  (see attachment in previous post)
Requires VB6 Runtimes

Hesiod,

I actually gave up on searching because no app does what I want including yours.

I tried the demo, at this stage I am not seeing anything that is really useful to me since the tools I use already does what your app can do. If you want to creater a stunning app please review my list one more time.

-Time tracker
-Invoicing
-Invoice tracking
-Ability to put or attach notes, files to invoices(should not sent to the customer)
-Calendar that can show dates of sent invoices, tracked tasks, hopefully with different viewing settings
-Expense recorder
-Ability to import and export at least .csv based files
-Ical subscription (not import export but actual read-write subscription)
-Monthly Yearly calendar. Now yearly does not mean months next to eachother. I am looking for something visually more useful, a yearly time table.

General Software Discussion / Is it possible to run an application as "Desktop"?
« Last post by kartal on February 24, 2009, 11:16 PM »
Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to run an application as default desktop-desktop replacemen- stay on top of desktop? I know I can run htm, web application on the desktop but that is not what I need. I want an application to show up when I invoke minimize all (windows+m) . Althou my problem gets more complicated also because I use minimize, restore etc irregularly. I sometimes use min to tray, sometimes, hide, sometimes minimize, sometimes back to front etc. So I am really hoping that there is a way to keep an application on the desktop while rest of the apps can be minimized without destroying their window states and sizes.

I am not looking for a desktop shell replacement or something. I use a special calendar notetaking application and I would like this application to not to respect the " minimize all" command.

Living Room / Re: Shared todo list manager
« Last post by kartal on February 17, 2009, 04:08 PM »
"Todo list is amazing "(typo)  and it does not sync. One other problem with it is that it has a serious lag problem, changing from tab to tab or waking it up feels very laggy.

I have been using Todolist for 3 years, it is fine for what it is but it does not feel any snappier than thunderbird+lighting.

Living Room / Shared todo list manager
« Last post by kartal on February 17, 2009, 03:29 PM »
Hi

I am looking for a lightweight network based shared-syncing todo list manager.

-I do not want web application
-It needs to be small and light
-I want Ical based or has  its own sync feature.
-I do not want to run a web server
-Supporting global shortcuts would be great
-Command line support is always welcome
-Tree based todo list is a must have
-I like checkbox option for completion
-I would like a free software but I am ok with paying little money.

Probably rainlendar is an ok option but I am wondering if DC users know another application that they have tested or used. Todo list is amazing but it does not hae syncing as far as I know and I hate manually exporting and importing stuff.

At the moment I am using thunderbird-lighting but really they are heavier applications than I anticipate. And I am lookign for a task manager that has omnipresent feeling in which I can access easily or stays on deskop, wakes up quickly etc as well.

Please do not google, since google is not my friend. I am also looking for tested by DC MEMBERS.

thanks

I use syncback pro version, it sounds like it does everything you want, except no:7

I also use Filehamster for realtime folder back up and versioning.

Paul Keith, I have used COmpedium long time ago. I thought it was cool but the problem with is that it requires certain kinf of Java and might end up messing up other installations that rely on newer versions of java.

I was not looking for tagger, I just saw the link and tried it.
