Sorry didn't read the whole thread ... Do all TIF files have thumbnails included? I suppose if they do it makes sense for them to be used.

Welcome "Harry the hornet" - we are all nice here (most of the time) so long as you don't sting us ;)

Info Select looks very nice but it should do at $250 for new users ....

For some reason you can download Dephi 6 PE updates but not for version 7 (even if you have registered and everything). The V7 updates require you to login byt they don't accept the Delphi 7 PE account you set up.

LOL ... They will probably be sued by the RIAA for 'inciting' file sharing - will they give themsleves a T-shirt?

JPEG files don't have embeded thumbnails - and only some RAW types have them. Unless Bridge adds a thumbnail to the file I can't see how it can be working like that?

Having said that most Adobe software uses scratch files (presumably instead of or as well as any available page file).

There is no way that play is in real time - otherwise it is in fast demo mode.

Not only are the pieces not visible when they fall but a keyboard/mouse (or any other input device) is simply not responsive enough to accurately rotate and move the pieces that quickly.

I have never had any problems with PayPal - except that it is expensive to retrieve money if you haven't got a lot!

Personally I doubt Google will offer order tracking - how would they do that with all third party sellers - unless they do as Yahoo did and actually set up webstores for companies?

Personally I found Yahoo webstores a PITA when it comes to shipping etc. as they charge ridiculous amount (eg. I wanted to buy a CD from www.cirquedusoleil.com and they wanted $29 to ship it to the UK - with no cheaper options ... and that wasn't a quick courier service it was surface mail that took 4-6 weeks).

I think Google will want its pound of flesh too - they aren't setting this up to be altruistic but to make lots of cash and they will make just as much as the market will stand.

The only positive point as far as I can see is that it will hopefully push prices and shipping costs down across the board - but I'm not holding my breath. I suspect Google will do in this area what it has done in others and try to push competitors to the wall. Then there won't be any incentive to have low costs.

I may be a bit paranoid but I can't help thinking the ultimate battle is looming and it will probably be MS and Google in the ring with other companies struggling to compete or pushing up the daisies.

I have just posted a note on their reatures request board - see if anything comes of it.
5638
If you want these kind of services they have been available through MS Passport and Yahoo shops for a long time, can't quite see why Google should be any different. Seems to me they have similar monopolistic aims to MS these days - and seem just as bent on profit and sod the consequences.

The best thing is once all your massive PST files are archived (I have 859Mb of emails!) the search is as fast as you can type.

The only fly in the ointment is that when Outlook crashes (which it seems to do fairly frequently) I like to run the scanpst utility to check the file wasn't damaged. Because X1 updates its database in realtime it keeps all the PST files open so scanpst doesn't work. Exiting the systray icon for X1 doesn't fully close the program so you have to go into TaskManger to close X1 completely before you can use scanpst on your files. It would be nice if X1 had a way to quickly unattach itself from open files while you do other things.

I thought it was serious to start with - I'd guess you would offend a lot of people if you followed the suggested gestures!

Allow me to ask something, how many of you have paid for the current version of office you are running? I know a lot of people say they wont upgrade because the price is too high, but I am just curious how many have paid for their CURRENT version?

Personally - I got Office 2000 Premium supplied with a computer but I paid for the upgrade to Office XP when they had a slump in sales and gave a good offer on the price. Even so I probably regret it as it hasn't added a lot of functionality over Office 2000. I also purchased an education copy of OneNote 2003.

I couldn't see the point of upgrading to Office 2003 (no one seemed to be able to point out anything new that wasn't aimed squarely at team working which is irrelevant for me).

I suppose I like the look of Office 2007 Beta - the toolbars are certainly good and an improvement but I'm not sure I can justify spending a lot of money on what is effectively a cosmetic upgrade - plus the licensing model means there is going to be a silly range of options to go for all at high or enormous prices. If an Education version is eventually released then I might consider going for that - but they tend to appear after some considerable time.

Personally I think that Office 2007 is very nice but will take some effort on the part of MS to get it adopted. The change in interface means that businesses will have huge potential costs in retraining staff to use the new software and I can see many being reluctant to go that way. Many businesses are still using Office 97 !! The new file formats in 2007 may make people reluctant too - espeically as Outlook 2007 produces incompatible files with earlier versions of Outlook (a bad decision IMHO that will backfire).

Thanks - that's how it was intended - I don't wish to affend anyone on DonationCoder.com - I have recommended Xara lots of times before on the forum so I thought I would add it to my sig.

Hmmm ... feeling embarassed having just added a banner to my sig  :-\ ... not the same as I don't really care if people click it or not and no one has paid to put it there!

It's not an issue with X1, except that the installer includes the Yahoo stuff which I idn't want to install. It clearly gives the option to avoid installing it so it isn't a problem.
5645
How do others react to sponsored links on Google searches?

Personally if I see a sponsored link I don't think that must be a good buy, I think someone is buying space to be at the top and I as a consumer simply move down the list.

I don't think I have ever inentionally clicked on a Google sponsored link - in fact the whole thing has a negative impact on me from the point of view of advertising.

No - a number of companies (X1, Nero and quite a few others now) include things like Yahoo Explorer Toolbar as an integrated part of their downloads. When you run the installer it asks do you want to install Yahoo Toolbar too and you can say no - but the thing that pisses me off is the number of time I download Yahoo Toolbar with other products - it is a waste of time and bandwidth, plus not all installers make it obvious that they have YT included so you have to go through custom install to ensure you don't install YT by accident.

YT is really annoying because it is now beginning to appear in other guises (ie. same thing but rebranded) so you end up installing it without know it is going to be there!

I think it is a big download because it contains a lot of Yahoo rubbish (which you deselect during installation).

Don't know about others but I am getting seriously pissed off with downloads that contain "value added" features - otherwise known as unwanted crap!

Having said that X1 seems pretty nifty - and it sits in the Systray after system startup.

Here are the items that appear in the task manager (the CPU usage figures drop when you are doing other things so that it doesn't interfere with other processes):

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: MIDI Capture
« Last post by Carol Haynes on June 30, 2006, 05:39 AM »
Thanks - yes I have seen that before but actually I use Finale 2006 (which can do the same).

What I was trying to do was transfer music I have bought (from www.sunhawk.com) into a MIDI sequencer to play it back with more control and better sound. Sunhawk use an application called Solero to display the score (and allow printing of the licensed number of copies). As an extra it plays the score via a very basic midi interface but allows almost no control over what you can do to make it sound better.

It's very pretty (I am playing with the beta in VMWare) but I don't think it is likely to be worth the upgrade price for me.

I'll stick with Office XP until there is a compelling reason to move on.
