I was just asking if anyone had ever used it.  That's a big part of why I don't get how it was related to the service or the comment- but just seemed like random commentary.  :-\

A US Rep actually had the gall to post this on facebook:

How bad is it when they actually say what we've been saying all along that they meant- and expect to get away with it?

That would be cool... would you get the same level of control, however?  It seems that depending on a hand is a bit sketchier than depending on a hardware device.

Also, one thing I found while reading the comments was ThreadThat.  Has anyone used/heard of this service?

It's also relevant to read the comments that poke holes in the premise of the article, i.e.

So, one valid question would seem to be: Is he intending continuing that history, or doing something about correcting it?

Yes ... Great pains are being taken to hide the facts better.

I'd say that the strings are showing more than anything else.  The President of the United States is a position of great power at the behest of great powers it seems to me.

A new one in the succinctly series from SyncFusion:

Visual Studio Add-Ins Succinctly

Available in PDF and Kindle

As usual with the succinctly series, you have to give a bit of info, and I know from experience that they use it.  So let the downloader beware.

Looks like a bit of advance on the MakeyMakey concept.  Based on the same chip too.  Very nice.

I was just getting ready to post that. :)  That project was pretty good... wish I had gotten in on it; there's some really cool stuff that people have made for inputs with the MakeyMakey.  Have to look at this one...

Living Room / Re: Does anyone here use Bitcoins?
« Last post by wraith808 on November 06, 2013, 08:14 AM »
but how does this thread promote the principles of donationcoder.com?

A good question.  What are the principles of donationcoder.com?  It seems to shift a bit- especially as different people chime in on it.

It always seemed to me that the focus was on software and software-based technology discussions, and to have a home for coders of all stripes and people that appreciate the software they make.

Bitcoin seems to fall into that.  As does the Snowden revelations.  As do a lot of things that formerly software enthusiasts had no real interest in on a software front.  But as that front changes, it seems in many cases many on DC don't want it to evolve to touch those things.  Which is sad, as all things evolve, and I think that more than anything else is the reason for stagnancy of visitors and stagnancy of the discussions.  Should those things be clearly labeled/tagged so that those that don't want to discuss such things might avoid them?  Sure.  There are some threads that I avoid, just because I'm not interested in the content from the title.  That might be judging a book by the cover, but it's true that people want to discuss different things as a part of the community, and that's ok.  And I think it needs to be ok.  At least in my opinion.  :two: :beerchug:

Bitcoin is a technological advance.  Just because it has something to do with financials doesn't make it any less so.  Just my .02.  And looking back through the thread, most of it is of a technological slant- even the last article posted.  First we wanted to have one thread to contain it... and now no threads at all?  Just ignore anything to do with it?

Seems a bit off...

I could take a look at it... I might have to ping you for help mouser :)  I'd thought about it... but figured that you'd be the perfect person to do it.

I just purchased Screenfloat for my Mac.  It's lacking some things that SSC has, but it has one killer feature that I think would be great in SSC.

When you take a screenshot, instead of popping up a dialog like SSC, it opens a floating borderless window with the image.  That window has controls on the edges to save and such, and also to set the transparency.  This is useful when doing comparisons, or referencing something as you're writing- or all sorts of things.

If you need some screenshots to visualize what I'm talking about more than at the site, let me know.  But their site explains it pretty good also.  I can't believe how cool it is to have this function- I'm really going to miss it on my main computer, which is why I figured I'd suggest it. :)

An old thread, but I just wanted to update.  I just (2013-11-05) purchased Screenfloat on Two Dollar Tues for $1.99 (it's $6.99 normally) (App Store Link).  It doesn't have all of the features of SSC.  But it does have one feature that is really killer- the ability to float your screenshot over other windows for comparisons, etc.  It's also compares pretty favorably with SSC for doing screenshots.

DC Gamer Club / Humble WB Bundle

The Humble WB Bundle includes a lot of goodness for a low price.

Right now (2013-11-05 18:19EST) the price is less than $5.00 to get all of the games, including:

Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
F.E.A.R. 3
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Batman: Arkham City GOTY

For the first four, pay $1 or more- to get the last two in addition, pay more than the average.  And all include steam keys.

The outrage is momentary until the chance for gain outweighs it.  Snowden's better sticking it out where he is IMO.

General Software Discussion / Re: CryptoLocker and CryptoPrevent
« Last post by wraith808 on November 04, 2013, 08:05 AM »
such viruses teach people to do regular backups.

It's not sufficent, as certain ransomware attack all the hard disks.
People should do backups in a removable device and then they should disconnect it.

This.

So I guess, this brings up the other point...

...are the perpetrators of Cryptolocker held to reliability in unlocking the files by the fact that if they don't people will stop paying?  And since most people that pay are individuals, then are they held to a certain maximum price by the same regard?
5346
Don't know if and how much one has to pay for the development software, what extra license costs are needed to meet the requirements of the development software, the version control software, buying the necessary hardware, taking programmer(s) from other in-house projects and/or hiring new programmer(s), re-arranging/more office space, extra HR administrative tasks, making a test environment, setting up test procedures, fulfilling all requirements to be in the Microsoft store.

I have no clue what these companies make, how stretched their employees already are etc., etc.

None of what you've stated is really a reason not to develop for a platform when you're talking about the big players- the costs of these things are no different than what they did to get on one platform already.  There's also the fact that MS is pushing to get App developers to develop for the platform- even a cursory search shows different programs for this and there's many articles on developing the same in MSDN.

I couldn't comment on the marketing, but since windows 8 apps either use native or HTML5 applications, I think that developers are covered in getting the apps to the phone.  And the rest really doesn't matter if the application is already intended to be free.
5347
I think the cost for making apps is only on the back end, similar to the App Store, i.e. if I make a free app, it doesn't cost anything.  At least from my limited look at the development side, this seemed to be the case.  In fact, if I make a free app, then I have a chance of getting free stuff from MS.  So only if the app would be a pay app would MS get anything... just like the App store.  And instagram doesn't cost anything from what I know.
5348
There's already a humor board in the basement.  And it's already for registered members only.  And there's conversations that go on there.  It's just that some things are inappropriate for even a NSFW silly humor thread.  Not really sure why it had to be NSFW since we aren't 4chan as Stoic pointed out.
5349
While I personally did not find it to be offensive...I do agree that it was far to close to the razor's edge. Just because the thread is marked NSFW doesn't mean that folks are cleared for takeoff to go sky-shotting over the top.

So granted while some of us do push the language barrier a bit at times. A modicum of restraint is to be reasonably expected...because this is not 4Chan.
