for all Windows Vista users, introducing TweakUAC.. i think this program will be useful in situations like this..

What is TweakUAC?

TweakUAC(TM) is a free software tool that you can use to quickly turn UAC (User Account Control of Windows Vista) on or off, or to make UAC operate in the quiet mode

« Last post by lanux128 on May 16, 2007, 10:58 PM »
i want to quickly enable the "Don't allow exceptions" option in Windows Firewall (see pic) before going online. so i'm wondering which registry keys are involved so that maybe i might be able to whip up a mini AHK script to do that and also toggle on/off the windows firewall.. Any ideas? :)

AFO is a few times faster and more stable than Whereisit (V2.61 was one of the fastest in my tests and V3 seems to reach at least the same speed - some other programs got slower during further development steps).
yes, AFO is quite good and comparable to WhereIsIt.. i have to make up mind soon.. if not, i'll wear out my CDs.. :)

Best Text Editor / TabPad - Notepad with tabs
« Last post by lanux128 on May 15, 2007, 04:46 AM »
a light-weight, no-frills Notepad clone with a difference - tabs.. :)

TabPad
TabPad is yet another Notepad clone - except with tabs. TabPad was designed to look almost identical to Notepad. TabPad is fast, efficient and well written, and supports opening dozens (if not more) of tabs for text files. You can make it your default editor if you please, TabPad supports files being opened by Explorer, or you can simply use it standalone. Drag and drop support is also included (that includes batch drag and drop, meaning multiple files). As of Version 1.90, TabPad includes autorecovery, allowing you to salvage anything you were working on in the event of a program/system error or power outage.

tomos, i know you are tired but i have a little suggestion to make.. :) why not incorporate the app name and its website as one column since hyper-linking them would reduce the table's width..

also, one of the programs from that list is up for grabs at Giveaway of the Day..

Advanced File Organizer
Advanced File Organizer is a cataloguer for your digital data collection.

It supports all kinds of media recognized by Windows as drives: CDs, DVDs, Memory Stick cards, ZIP disks, floppies, hard drives, network drives and folders. The key point is an ability to organize the information for most effective using it later, including convenient navigation, quick and powerful search, making reports and export to other formats.
