But because the dates have some sentimental value (kids' musical and voice performances from 1997-2004) I want to keep the original file dates and not overwrite them with the conversion date.

No conversion program I currently have will do this.  Can anyone help?
-Lolipop Jones (May 12, 2021, 04:39 PM)

Greetings LJ! :) If your conversion program has a command-line interface where you can pass the destination/resulting file name, making a program to snapshot previous dates for originals and "replaying it" on the resulting files is possible.

It could also be possible to make it if you already have resulting files having changed extension from .wav to .mp3. In such a case, the program would compare file name patterns and adjust/set the MP3 files' dates accordingly.

I'm open to making this tool with a little accompanying feedback from you. Cheers!

@Nick: Let's continue at FileToFolder's thread.

@All: Please continue having "Enfolder fun" in here  Cheers!

Seems to be an issue if you try to do to many files at once.

Was doing 16 files at the time.

Hi Nick! en route.:)
504
I am looking for a software which allows to move or copy folders in several other folders
Or created folders in several other folders

Okay, we can have a checkbox to "Keep files" when checked. If unchecked it would be a "move" (actually a multi-copy, then source removal).

For example I have 5 folders and I would like 50 other folders to contain the 5 folders, but to do this manually, it takes a long time

How about having a "drag & drop list" where you can drop all the directories you want from Explorer OR having a "Browse for folder" button to add destination directories one by one. Guess we can also feature both ways to add folders? Time to brainstorm! :)

Hi,
I do that manually although it would be ten times easier with a software to do it for me. I'm going to try what Vic suggested, hope that'll work.
Hi V! Welcome to the fray! Feel free to brainstorm with us

We're in this together :)

it would only add extension to disambiguate (should it happen).
-publicdomain (May 11, 2021, 09:05 PM)

Code's finished :) Disambiguation procedure is simply appending numbers in the "(#)" format.

Releasing FileToFolder v0.1.0 now

copy folders in several other folders
Or created folders in several other folders

Hello @amaid! I'm taking this via MultiCopy:

https://github.com/p...blicdomain/multicopy

(Right-click explorer menu entry + GUI with multiple folders added via browse dialog).

Cheers!
508
Yes. Lets not confuse the folder to the file.

Roger. Since there's no GUI guess it would only add extension to disambiguate (should it happen).

I'm on it! This is a one-day code :) Cheers!
509
How about a generic FileToFolder.

Agreed: https://github.com/p...cdomain/filetofolder

Do you want file extensions to be clipped?

i.e. C:\Windows\Notepad.exe => C:\Windows\Notepad\Notepad.exe
510
I could also use an option to move to folder and each file would be moved to a folder from the name of the file.

Let's do this Nick! What would you suggest for a name?

(Perhaps "Subfile"?)

Do you want it to be a graphical program or would a straightforward non-GUI command do it for you?

i.e. form/dialog for detailed file renaming vs straight file operation(s).
511
Thanks J & T for participating.

So, we're heading to several Enfolder menu entries, each addressing your preference(s):

- Enfolder

Subfolder functionality assumed. Naming dialog selection populated by selected items' names.

- Enfolder date

Subfolder functionality assumed. Current date used in folder naming dialog.

- Enfolder browse

Would trigger folder browser dialog so you can choose destination folder & name.

Feel free to comment! This thread's welcoming of all the creative discussion :)
512
Okay! We're going to have separate "Enfolder-inspired" programs :)

One for @Nickodemos with his suggested functionality + the simplified version you have in mind :-*

Cheers! :)

Hey Curt, no worries; they are two separate settings now for you to choose :)

Move cursor + Click mark center are also coming for this version

I can use this. One question about adding a feature.

I could also use an option to move to folder and each file would be moved to a folder from the name of the file.

Roger that Nick. It gets included in next version (v0.2.0) :) Thanks for participating! :-*

Would you care to add Start hidden / minimized to systray / notification area, please?

Hi Curt! As I finish the minimized to systray modification, just wanted to check if you actually mean/want "Start with windows, minimized to systray". Cheers!

@v:
two questions from dev to dev

My pleasure to answer K!

#1: It serves a fellow user in need, that's all that matters for this public domain project afirmar.gif

Besides, making users happy == happy Vic love.png

...On the technical side, this seminal app can be taken to a great state by giving it fine-grained control on files & sub-folder items, as well as on individual operations (copy/move/rename) plus other "goodies". The challenge for this initial release being to "flex" instant addition capabilities via registry vs creating a full-blown shell extension or doing a limited "Send to".

#2: I'd give this initial version a 2- (two-star) ranking. Why? Because it was worth enough for 1 user to request it & it was interesting enough for 1 programmer to code it!

1 + 1 rating for initial 0.1.0 version!

Cheers!

still a "today release". Not that much left.
-publicdomain (May 03, 2021, 06:10 PM)

...pretty much done, yet smallish stuff has been "popping in". Current approach has its funky ways! Been squashing a race condition; it's proving worth it since a full-blown shell extension may be an overkill (sticking to registry in here)...
