It was a nickname I was often called as a child which I'd prefer not to share for privacy reasons. 🙂

I had actually tried the same name with the calculator as one of my many guesses, but I got different results because as an adult making guesses of all the names I recalled using in games as a child, I was capitalizing the first letter and no others. Whereas the name I wrote as a child had no such regard for proper capitalization of names. 😅

Sods law that I subscribed yesterday, but at least it was for the free trial!

The following info is a direct copy/paste of the email I got:

Dear Stadia player,

On September 29, 2022, we announced that the Stadia service will be shut down on January 18, 2023. We’re getting in touch with important information on what this means for you as a Stadia player.

Availability

Stadia will remain available for gameplay until the service is shut down on January 18, 2023. During this period, you will have access to your game library, including Pro games if you had an active Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022. Be aware that publisher support for games may vary, and it’s possible that your gameplay experience may be affected during the shut-down period.

‌

Refunds

Google is offering a refund to Stadia users for Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Stadia Founder’s Edition, Stadia Premiere Edition, or Play and Watch with Google TV Package) made on the Google Store, and game purchases and add-on purchases made on the Stadia Store. The refund process will take some time, but we expect to have the majority of refunds processed by January 18, 2023. We expect to be able to automatically issue refunds for a substantial portion of transactions as a credit to the form of payment used to make the purchase. For purchases that we are not able to automatically refund, you will receive an email with details on how to obtain your refund.

Transactions and subscription fees

All commerce functionality (the ability to buy games, new subscriptions, add-ons or in-game purchases) on Stadia has now been disabled. Users who held an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29, 2022 will not be charged for access to their Pro library or other subscription entitlements during the shut-down period. Historical Stadia Pro subscription fees will not be eligible for refund.

Your Stadia account and data

You will be able to export your Stadia data, such as profile information, game stats, social data, save files and captures from Google Takeout until the Stadia service shuts down on January 18, 2023, after which point your Stadia data will be permanently deleted. You can also delete Stadia from your Google account at any time or delete your Google account entirely. Please note that deleting your Google account will result in deletion of all data and content in that account, including emails, photos, and files, and may increase the amount of time it takes to receive a refund of your Stadia purchases. Google may however retain certain data, including transaction data, for up to three years following the shut-down of the service for the purposes of processing refunds and providing customer support.

Hey,

Can anybody recommend a projector that will project images onto a ceiling? Bonus points if it has an app (or connects to a network) so I can change files remotely from my phone/Google Nest/Alexa/ETC, but will settle for one that runs purely from USB/SD.

Quality of image is not relevant (newborns can barely see anyway so it's not like I need 4K compatible haha).

I have a lot of niblings (nephews and nieces) with about 20 years spread between the oldest and the youngest. So I've been around a lot of diaper-wearing littles and I've changed quite a number of diapers over the years. I think that having a diaper pail is the most essential luxury for new parents.

The one I linked supports both major bag refill types. I suggest you try out both types of refills and see which you prefer. I know someone who tried one type, had some complaints about it, then went out and bought a different diaper pail that supported the other type of refill, only to find out they had even more complaints about that one and learned that they preferred the first one. So it's nice that this one supports both types. It also advertises itself as having a "self-sealing system" which twists the bag closed, preventing foul odors from coming back out when you open the lid to put another diaper in. And it has a foot pedal which makes it easy to open with your foot while your hands are full.

And these won't come in handy for a while, but once you start transitioning away from formula/bottles to a more standard drinking cup, these silicone membrane-covered cups are nice. They're not 100% spill-proof, but usually the worst that happens when they fall is that a little bit of liquid comes out due to the force of the impact and then nothing else comes out. Very rarely I've seen the silicon membrane pop off completely when the cup was dropped, at which point the liquid is free to flow out of the cup. But even then it still flows more slowly than it would in a regular cup. They also come without handles to be even more like a regular cup.

I know neither of these suggestions are hi-tech gadgets that are super fun for tech-geeks like us, but in my experience and observations, these two items will potentially be useful to you for years, and possibly for multiple children if you have more.

I already have an automatic formula maker and cameras but wondering if any other parents have "tech'd" things up

This is definitely more of a place aimed towards "make whatever sounds like fun" and not somewhere to try and make an income (although, if you can....then do it!).

As for "customs" - just be friendly. We try not to moderate when it isn't needed (and honestly, it's VERY rare for moderation to happen for anything other than spam, or just to split off a post into it's own topic so the main thread doesn't get derailed). I wouldn't say this is an "anything goes" place, but the users here basically self-moderate for the most part.

As for your software suggestion, I haven't seen it personally, but it is well established that any suggestion of any single thing on this forum can be expected to have alternatives suggested in its place haha. Coding Snacks aren't always picked up quickly, and the userbase generally understands this so attempts to give other options for people to use until somebody codes the custom solution

And I guess I got lucky with my request, it was picked up right away. Which probably also effected my read on what kind of culture this place had. I honestly was expecting to have to wait a bit.

I think I'll be fine here. Probably, lol. I did have one comment misread a bit (not the one with CodeZwerg), but while I'm wysiwyg and can be direct, I'm not a hater, ha, I can say that.

Honestly, some snacks can be picked up within minutes, others can go unanswered for weeks. It's 100% "luck of the draw" and there's no real logic to it haha.

As for "what should I donate" - donate whatever you feel is appropriate for the work done. Nobody here really EXPECTS a donation, so when we do get one, it's a nice surprise!

hi Jasong,
lots of people here aren't coders. If you make a request, people will make suggestions of software that might do that already (why reinvent the wheel) and people will make suggestions of workarounds (fwiw they may or may not be coders, doesn't matter...).
In the thread you posted in, a couple of people were negative about the idea of coding something cause they felt the workaround was a better, or a good enough solution. Everyone who posted in that thread was being helpful -- naturally that doesn't mean you agree with or follow their advice.

People who code 'snacks' or apps do it if they want (and have the time) and don't if the idea doesn't interest them. Re donating: it's always nice to donate to say thank you. If you request something, you could always ask per private-message (PM) what the coder's expectations are. I reckon a lot of people donate according to their means. One could also donate to someone who has given particularly helpful advice. There's no rules about any of it though.

Ok, thanks, noted. I recall one person, who commented in this thread also and to whom I'm about to reply to, posted they weren't interested and I thought nothing else. On reread I see they did actually suggest one thing. The other thing was just using regular system functions, or at least that's how I read it.

And then on the coding- noted. I guess I'm looking to orient myself if this is like a place where hobbiests hang out and help people out when they want, or is this more like a place where people come to earn income. Like r/slavelabour, on Reddit. And places can have customs or conventions/expectations that are unspoken, and if there were any, I'd want to know as a guy is about to finish my request.

Just a real quick update:

Tech News (on its own) was absolutely BORING to research, write out, record, etc, so...I scrapped it, redesigned the entire show, and am relaunching under a new format that will be far less tedious to produce and be more fun to listen to!

I'll still be covering tech news, but that will now be reduced to a segment on the show (where it's needed, and maybe not in every episode cause there's not always anything of note to talk about).

I'll now be talking about tech, science, innovations (etc) in a more general manner!
