Emsa is no more.
Powerpro is still with us though. Not sure how it works as a keylogger (it does a huge amount of stuff)

Not an area I know anything about, but it seems logical to me that if I sell something in a particular country, that the sale would have to comply with the laws of same country - even if it's been exported. But we dont know why *exactly* (on what grounds) they are claiming the back tax so it's all a bit moot, innit?

Be interesting to see what happens anyway.

I use winpatrol *just* for the features you request BearPup.
I've always ignored all the other stuff it has. It doesnt use much memory, and less cpu.
I believe you have to get the paid version for the online lookup - I dont think it will do a search - but gives you info from the winpatrol databank.

[...] the point is that fuel efficiency is against the law in the US. :P

the unproven point - I refer you to my quote in my previous post, where a couple in the US get 84mpg with a Passat.
Let's just drop this - it's completely off-topic...

Ren, you forgot:
Note: The Imperial gallon is larger than the U.S. gallon, so when calculating mpg the conversion is 70 mpg Imperial = 58.28 U.S. (source)
-your link
but
still a big difference there!

This was discussed here before though - my response at the time is still valid:

If he knows the engine is made in US but not allowed in the US, it does look like there's something funny going on.

This autocar.co.uk review gives it 800miles to a 70 litre fill which works out at 43 m.p.g. if my maths is correct.

I actually came across this last week somewhere, and just found it again:
Couple [in the US] gets 84 mpg in Passat diesel on real roads
I think this article is mainly about the fact that if you drive about 55 mph you can save up to 23% fuel. Also here. They do use a different model (6 gears) - but the second link says that the previous record was by the model the guy in the video was talking about...

so this VW example is not proof of anything...

Actually there is a simple solution for the US government - put up fuel taxes (like they have done in most of the developed world) so that if you drive efficient cars the overall tax take is the same. In the short term they would make a huge windfall - in the long term people would buy fuel efficient cars -  everyone wins!
-Carol Haynes (March 01, 2013, 04:45 AM)

that'd be like putting up taxes on beer in Germany - then there'd by a riot.
I think it's a cultural thing, in every country there is some-thing that the people wont accept, that will push them over the edge.

I dont use it myself but think Launchbar Commander from mouser here (donationcoder) does the same thing as the other suggestions.

Re Windows 7 64 bit, I guess if I tell you that adding a folder as toolbar on the taskbar works perfectly here, I'll only be rubbing salt in the wounds...

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor - New Quick Capture Bar
« Last post by tomos on February 27, 2013, 06:25 AM »
I find it drops down too easily. With a window taking up the full left-hand-side of screen - trying to reach it's close-button is difficult because the bar keeps dropping down.

When the toolbar autohides, I'd prefer if there were less of it visible (I presume that visible strip triggers the drop down - so related to above).

I keep getting caught by this - I often have a window taking up half the screen so it's minimise/close buttons are exactly where the toolbar drops down. I seem to tend to move the mouse up there kind of slowly and the toolbar comes down, even though I havent hit the edge.

See this -
it's the autohidden taskbar in Windows 7 (desktop image is black here) - I added shadow so that you could see the one pixel strip they show to indicate the open programmes

Screenshot - 2013-02-27 , 13_12_17.png

point being that one pixel is very visible...
Basically saying I'd prefer if the hidden toolbar only showed one pixel - [edit] not sure how many it currently has [/edit]

But I'll get used to it if you want to keep it like this ;-)

Delay is good  (FWIW I'd prefer more of a delay myself)

Close icon is more disceet.

I would suggest moving the post capture options to the drop-down menu in the default bar.

PS - I reckon I will use this almost full time as well,
for me it provides the ulimate in ease-of-use and control

I'm a fan :-*

thanks everyone. I had it installed, but had not (until now) figured out how to crop  or isolated only a portion of the screen that I wanted to print. Now I also understand how to superimpose the entire software over the image I want to print.  Thanks again.

Working now :D
Like Josh I'd recommend the minimal icons as default, also for beginners - they're used to looking for tooltips too I think :)

Speaking of tooltips - they're a bit erratic and often dont display - I think it might be that they only display when the toolbar has been clicked.
Easiest way to reproduce is simply to restart SC (with Quick Capture Bar enabled) -tool-tips no longer show on mouseover.

I'll chance an icon request/comments - unfortunately I'm unable to take a screenshot of the bar here (how did you get that shot Abterix :tellme:)
-
They are really nicely designed
I think they would look better with a little more contrast.
The red X - while it looks good, it dominates the icons - and it is really the least important. The bar autohides, if someone wants to turn it off they can go into settings or via the tray icon. If you want to keep it, I'd recommend making the others stronger (recommended anyways) and the X more discreet.
-
The three post capture options: - it took me a while to figure out that there is only one selected here - I initially just thought that one icon was darker by accident. (I then thought that that icon toggled the setting and was confused when another click didnt change anything.) I'm not sure waht could be done to make that clearer. In ways, the activated one could be greyed out as it is no longer an option - only the other two can now be selected. Again, that would need the other icons to be 'stronger' in general. Maybe with a stronger outline.
-
I wonder should they all be the same size as the icons on the right? The bar autohides anyway so space is not of a premium. But with a little less spacing. If I could take a shot of the $ยง%$ thing I'd be able to mess around with it and see what might look good/better. I'd standardise the sizes anyway, whether slightly larger or smaller.

A minor question I've been meaning to ask for a while - possibly related so I'll ask here:

How come the installer doesnt lauch (or give the option to launch) SC after install any more? (I think it's the same now with your other apps too). I've gotten used to it, but AFAIK it's not the norm and was wondering if there's a reason for it.

Have a look in preferences - "Saving..."
mine is set to autosave = as soon as I move to another file, the changes made to the current file are saved. (No dialogue.)

You can change it / various options - I'm not sure what the default is.

Black Viper's site is what I've used since XP to determine what services I can safely disable.

While YMMV, I've yet to have anything I've disabled due to his info cause any problem on my computers but you do need to know what role your machine has before you go fiddling with them.

And naturally make a backup before you start fiddling.

Oh my God. i have to take a look

not sure if that's positive or negative :D

"you do need to know what role your machine has before you go fiddling with them" <= is important. If the role of the machine changes, you may have to re-enable services. So, if you do change things, keep a good record of what you change!

I think their approach of developing it for the web and then porting it to the desktop is ill-advised at best. (Call it a hunch and take it with a grain of salt.)

it's interesting that (it sounds like) they can only get funding for an web version.
As to porting, I wouldn't have a clue :-)

Hamradio just created a kick-ass set of icons for the quick capture bar!

Feast your eyes on this:
 (see attachment in previous post)

looks really nice

... it isnt working here yet though:
I see nine buttons left of the seperator - the only icon showing is the scanner. No tooltip show for any buttons.
(I'm unable to take screenshot - it disappears)

Here's the settings:

UPDATE:
Whats going on regarding Stagestack?

[...] Quasado is not ready to give up. They have decided to build a pure web-based (JS/HTML5) edition of the product first, which will help to better fit into present investor strategies (web and mobile apps) as well to allow it to run on mobile, web and for getting a prototype out much sooner. Furthermore, thanks to the donations received--and Quasado's own financial fund--this first prototype can be developed completely on its own. Quasado is planning on publishing a limited-function prototype for people to play around on the web by early to mid-April 2013.

[...]

We asked about details on their programming process and Quasado tells us they will be using the same web-code for building up a desktop edition by replacing performance-critical parts with native code. They believe this is quite an interesting experiment and will still allow users to work with exactly the same feature-set on the web as well as the native application. They are also building an infrastructure / SAAS Solution around the web edition that will allow designers to better manage and handle their designs as well as interact with their customers. It will support interactive components; meaning users can do UI-Drafts, for example, and other such functions.

Screenshot Captor / Re: how get better resolution?
« Last post by tomos on February 26, 2013, 04:05 AM »
I tried capturing at 700 px wide and inserting in Word to get a quick look at it in a document.  I reduced it by half, and it looks much better than the next capture I took, at 350 px wide (with the browser zoomed out appropriately).

I'm used to working in dpi which is a different approach (thinking more for printing).
I might well be wrong here, but I believe that if you 'reduce' it thus in word, the image file is not actually being reduced. Well I'm not sure what you're doing with Word, but if it was simply saved as a word doc, it would show the image smaller size with higher resolution which AFAIK means it's not modifying the image at all. If you're doing html in word, try saving the final product and check how it looks in browser.
