Going fine now...

I kept downloading SC in the last while, and then I'd look at the thread before going to install and see it was updated again ;D
This was an update from yesterday I think, but also one that was relatively quickly replaced by another IIRC.
(Unfortunately I didnt keep a record.)

A suggestion / possibility:

I think people who have used a graphics vector programme would find the shape tool easy to use, and very efficient.
If you gave an option to cut the shape created - it could then be used to create a complex open line (without fill).

I admit that the classic click-click-click-ESC way is faster when an experienced user creates a new line, but newbies have problems with it - they do not know that they have to somehow end the line (ESC, right click, ...?), changing a placed point or splitting an edge may be difficult, as it may involve choosing a different tool or re-configuring the current one. Though apparently, my approach confuses people, who have used other editors. I may adjust it or put some hits somewhere.
yes,
I'm used to something else - but can see the problem with that method for people unfamiliar with it (I often forget myself that a point is still 'active' and start a new line only to find it's still the old one..)

BTW for the Shape, the greenish points have similar function - they allow you to split an arc (without affecting a shape) and create a new control handle (point) at the desired location.

I got that - that's very good. Can then be more exact in modifying the shape

Sent you an email with details, ini file and screenshots.
Going to try messing around now with restarting and reinstalling as you suggested.

hi Vlastimil - I messed around with this a little,
it's fun to use!
The shape tool is fairly intuitive and very nice to use

Some feedback:

I was confused about some results, but I managed - which is a good start (for me, *and* for RWpaint consideing I just dived in).
A more in depth video messing around and showing/explaining the uses and effects would be helpful at some stage. After messing around with it a bit, I looked at your video a second time - I now understand it a lot better.

I still couldnt figure out how to use the 'Line' and 'Curve' tools - I'm used to being able to continue a line with another click, but that doesnt seem to happen here. Also they both appear to produce an extra line which I didnt understand [see edits below!]

When I tried to add a solid fill, it didnt show - turned out the transparency was set to zero (I *think* that was by default). Confused me for a while as it was different to video.

Screenshot - 2013-03-26 , 19_04_11.jpg

In the background you can see my failed attempts to use the Line and Curve

I was also confused by the blue and green points on the paths - on my (relatively good quality) screen, they are too similar in colour to me.
EDIT/
I see now that the blue points are on the extra lines. Maybe you could explain them briefly? Thanks!
EDIT2/  :-[
I see more now (!) they affect how the gradients show when using the different fill gradients which also affect path/line colour.

Not a big deal but thought I should let you know:
the update to version 4 cleared all my shortcuts/hotkey actions.

Whether it's worth following up ...

The MyClipart directory points to a different directory, where you can put your own custom clipart.
So that's not a bug, its just showing you that your custom clipart directory is currently empty and you need to select another one.
Perhaps I should try to improve that to make it less confusing.

default would be better the directory with clipart if possible (where is it btw?)

Missed most of the betas since the early ones - icons are looking great in autohide bar and in main window.
Thumbsup to you (for everything else!) and hamradio

How to make money from music:

A TED talk from Amanda Palmer, entitled "The art of asking"
Amanda Palmer is a musician, who, amongst a lot of other things, made over 1 million dollars on Kickstarter (dc thread).
And then gave her album away - FLAC version was donationware IIRC; 320kbps mp3 was a free download.

Topicwise, you may find the talk a bit slow moving initially, but it's well worth sticking with.
Oh yeah, it's very slightly NSFW at times (but not in any exciting way :p)

Clipart is fun :)

Screenshot - 2013-03-23 , 21_04_17.png

Clipart didnt show initially (v3.30.01) under MyClipart\ (presumably My Documents\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor\MyClipart) but did show under the next option -Clipart\. I cant find that on disk though. This might be due to me changing my default SC save folder(?) but it's not there in the new location either.

[Stephen - Ignore! :P]

Funnily enough I think 'women's lib' and 'women want[ing] equal rights' are almost off-topic here.

That's what I thought quite brilliant about the article linked in the first post - it kept it at people, and how people interact, and the effects of not dealing with something directly and fairly etc. etc. (Once I got beyond the wow/wtf factor, it was a real pleasure to read.)

wraith & 40 - thanks for calling me out on using the 'investment' term
Yes, 'speculation' is correct.

I'm not a fan of bitcoin in any real way, but I'm deadly curious to see what does happen with it. I agree with lots of what you're saying 40. As I said above, as an active currency it's a fail. That could change if it survives.
But ironically, a lot of what you say about it applies to 'regular' money too (the 'circular logic'). In this day and age, that fact that they say the production of bitcoins will be limited is enough to get people excited - there's a lot of fear around about 'real' money production since banks have become less and less regulated and not held responsible for their cockups.

Just thought I'd mention that, like tslim, I use HyperSnap for screenshots.  I've used it for years and love it.

I see there that HyperCam version 2 is free for personal and commercial usage. There is a 64bit version for Win 7/etc.
THey do say:
If you need a more powerful version, please try the commercial HyperCam 3, developed by our partner, Solveig Multimedia. Please visit their pages for more information.

^40, I'm not sure what you mean by "the outcome is predictable".
According to that article it's given bitcoin credibility:

The value of a bitcoin rose to more than $60 a unit from less than $49 on one exchange following the release of FinCen's new guidance—a move that Mr. Garzik attributed partly to a new level of certainty and legitimacy that federal recognition attaches to bitcoin transactions.

Re spending it:
why would anyone want to spend it when the price is inflating so much - which means of course that it's pretty useless as an active currency - but good as an investment (for the moment anyways).

Sounds/looks great vlastimil,
You picked a very difficult subject for your video (face)

I look forward to giving it a go

Sticking with smaller tools is definitely a smarter choice, but I am too stubborn to give up.

OTOH most people would be better off working with 'smaller tools' rather than working with illustrator ;-)

I like this song Catgroove by Parov Stelar, and TakeSomeCrime danced really well for it:

And once you've seen that, check out this great wedding dance to the same song:

here's a nice dancing-in-the-kitchen video to that great track:

(normally last focused app is next in the alttab list).
...
but if I alttab to the desktop from FF, then alttab again, FF is again at the end of the list/row,

-but always with the desktop as the last last "at the end", right? It is, on my screen.

correct :)

This is too perfect.

What happens when your elderly father hasn't seen an iPad before...

http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=sfomnj8nUR0

Love it! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

it's great :-*
Deo posted it before somewhere here, but it was just with music - no talking.
I presumed it was him visiting his daughter and helping in the kitchen using her ipad.

Here it's that she's visiting him and asking how he's getting along with the ipad he got for his birthday:

> Are you managing with all the apps?
> What apps are you on about? Move over a bit there ... [scrapes chopped herbs into pot :D]

I know this isn't directly answering the question but Win+D will show the desktop immediately. Might save having to hit tab repeatedly  :).

Win+D is nice. I used use it a lot. What bothers me about it is this:
Right now firefox is the active window here (doh!) and there's a bunch of other windows open.
Win+D shows the desktop. When I go to alttab back to FF, it's gone to the end of the list/row.

Actually I hadn't noticed this before, but if I alttab to the desktop from FF, then alttab again, FF is again at the end of the list/row, even though it was the last focused window.

Strange & inconsistent behaviour imo (normally last focused app is next in the alttab list). I presume they had some sort of reason for doing it like that (but maybe not).
