General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 7 Commercials
« Last post by Curt on October 23, 2009, 06:43 AM »
Giving the initial post's wording, it may be of merely little interest if I like these videos or if I already have tried these features on a former system. If I've understood any of it, the point was & is that apparently Microsoft will finally be advertising the content rather than the form. And that may be one small step for mankind, but it is one giant step for Microsoft. Thanks, Innuendo!

I have always been a sucker for add-ons. This list certainly gives me hope for the future for applications that will extend the usability of Windows 7...

Here & now I am sadly surprised that my Windows Media Player not will be allowed to minimize to taskbar integration. This probably means I will "need" to also get myself a widescreen monitor?

The Classic Start Menu can most likely be replaced by third party applications.

Of course it would be best to solve the reason to the problem. But if no-one here at DC knows the right answer, and you still are using a custom theme, I will suggest you also try to use a default MS theme for a while, to see if the problem still shows up.

I am using this Greasemonkey userscript to get rid of Google tracking ...

- to my understanding this script is for google.com only? I believe Google default is any local "domain", giving different surnames all over the world - around here: .dk

General Software Discussion / Re: Needed: WordPress Plugin(s) for Photographers
« Last post by Curt on October 15, 2009, 01:27 PM »
Maybe have your sis' take a look at this page: http://www.magix-onl...line_album.1519.html Does it offer what she needs? I would imagine so. The free hosting (<10GB) came as part of one of my MAGIX Xtreme (from the same company that does Xara Xtreme) programs, but I don't recall from which one of them, and I don't know what program you'll have to purchase as a minimum in order to get these extras.

http://www.magix.com

http://www.xaraonlin...page.asp?MKCode=4982 is somewhat interesting too.

Edited:
Sorry; only now did I see the word photography business.

I can't locate any instructions on how to install plugins. What do I do with the .dll file of a plugin?
Edited:

- sorry, sri, I forgot the initial question. Merely unpack the zip container into QTTabbar > Tools. End of story. To enable, right-click on toolbar > Options > Plugins > Add Plugin....
Right-click somewhere else on toolbar > Customize...
You might want to also grab the "Options"-button, otherwise it can be a little too difficult to right-click the proper place!

BTW, I use QTTabBar_1.2.3β5, on Vista 32-bits.

@CleverCat, I am a little worried because of your recommendation of the 'memo' instructions. I mean: 1) you never got an answer, and 2) the answer the other user got, well, if some supporter had given me such an answer, I would RUN and never look back! The described procedure is 'hole-in-the-head' nerd'ish, pardon me my Danish French; this is for Windows, not for Linux!

@sri, have you double-checked the keyboard combinations, for 'overlap'? Please understand that when I "tested" DirectFolders with QTTabbar, I got so annoyed because of hotkeys 'overlapping', that I removed DF without fully knowing if they may be able to co-operate or not! They do have a problem, that is certain, but they may work together!

General Software Discussion / Re: how to open large html files
« Last post by Curt on October 14, 2009, 04:52 AM »
Have you tried Universal Viewer - it might work ?

just be aware of the mode

Q3: What are the limits for files sizes?

A: UltraViewer can show, in Text/Binary/Hex/Unicode modes, files of any size. You can quickly scroll huge files in mentioned view modes, as UV holds in memory only small amount of file data (approximately 120-180 Kb), and not the whole file contents.

But you cannot open huge files in RTF/UTF-8 mode or in Plugins mode, because RichEdit control and most of plugins try to load the whole file contents and this will be very slow and will fail.

Are you running Vista and a beta ClipX, sri? I didn't bother to try ClipX  the first time I met it  because the "last stable version" was from 2005. ??

no add-on needed; what works in Internet Explorer, also works in Maxthon.

I think that the hole idea, that the Internet includes 'the Right to Free Speech', is naive, and probably founded on ignorance. The tend is also the opposite, I think; more and more hosts being forced to practice moderation and censorship. My expectation is that this will grow and grow, until it no longer is a question about what kind of homepage / site you would want to have, but if you want to have a homepage at all!

the browser side of the problem may easily be checked if you install a version from another company, say, Maxthon. Version 2 is like IE8 and version 1.6 is like IE7.

@Eóin,
- you were warned. I did say I don't use themes, meaning I have no idea what to do!
 8)

1) When I click Desktop > Change Theme, Vista is asking me for a *.Theme-file.
So what do I do with the CleanGlass (♥) folder, which has no .Theme files, please?

Can I say right away that I only would like to change the look of Explorer, if possible.
Everything else is already looking good... As is CleanGlass :-)

I understand why you took interest in the old thread, 'Check&Get or Power Favorites or Linkman' - maybe you will have go further up that road.

My *guess* would be that you've updated Internet Explorer 7, you have no IE 8 (?), while Web Research hasn't been updated for almost 2½ years...  Has even their support died?

Previous Versions of Internet Explorer

Edited:
Oh, now I see, they have merely missed to update the text on some of their pages: The program is updated for both IE8 and Win7. Sorry, I didn't realize that, before.
Your version is version 3, right?

I am very pleased with not having anything from Google installed ;-)
Curt,
You do not have to have it installed for your competition, child molestors, warez users, and etc to post comments on your sites...

 James

I am very pleased with not having anything from Google installed ;-)
I can provide you with a 50% discount + earn cash and prizes

- sorry, but such an offer just tells me that the price was too high in the first place.
I am not trying to post a sales pitch but facts.. Some sites have already had the child molestor thing done. I created Block SideWiki because of the damage it can do and has already done. The js solutions do not protect your site or your reputation.

Many sites have already suffered at the hands of what google has done and the fact that this is our sites and not googles, gives google no right to have comments posted on the "side" of our sites. This is borderline illegal what google is doing and many of us will not stand for it.

I created a 50% discount because it is posted on a paid for special offer on a forum.

 James

Hitting all the "hot button" phrases aren't we? Especially the "child molesters" part.

Why is it that so many people who want to sell you something web related always seem to feel the need to wedge the child molester bogeyman someplace in their sales presentation? Are there that many frightened and technologically challenged parents and school officials out there that people still get away with using this argument?

---

@BlockSideWiki - could you add a little more to this discussion than just dropping a thinly veiled sales pitch?

Hi Paul,
The reason why I would not post links because that just aches on the problem and that is the last thing I wish to do. I built a solution to help stop all the spamming and foul comments before other sites do suffer.

Bwahaha! Somebody pull him out of his cave!

I like the concept - (no more signing up every time I want to say something, no more "We're Lifehacker - you can't just comment here, you need to qualify first!") - but how the hell will they moderate this monster? An easily abused system will not just be bad for the site owners, it'll hurt Google too... or will it?...

Reg. blocking toolbars: how long before Google/whoever comes up with a solution that isn't browser-based?

I don't think it's completely no sign-up. From what I understand, you still need a Google Toolbar.

Shush! This guy's the next Steve Jobs.  :P

@BlockSide Wiki

I'm kidding but IMO this is normally the wrong audience for these kind of comments. It really does come off as a sales pitch.

A specific link would probably help when making such grand accusations. (Social proof and all that)

Not saying I understand the entire DC community though. Just my ignorant guess.

I found a button named 'quote', but now I cannot remember what I wanted to say.
