Man.. You really are desperate to make people see this thread  :tellme: (and it seems to be working ;) )

@mouser: that seems like a nice idea, it's allways another option for people to join the community :D

"mac: crash different" LOLOL
That's one greatly frustrated guy! ahahah
Does anyone agree with him?
I've never worked with a mac, but recently i made a paper about apple, and the conclusion i came was that everything with them is really pretty and stuff, but when you get to the point where you need it to so something, it's absurdly limited... (i mean... who buys a ipod shuffle?? if you buy it, please don't kill me , i only think you made a bad choice  ::) )

Well housetier, that's a big post  :) Exactly what i was looking for when i created this pool :D
I've used mplayer in linux, i didn't know it could be used in windows... That's why i use bsplayer, it's the closest to mplayer there is in windows (at least, for what I've seen), although zoom player seems very nice too
I guess this is a good lesson: never make pools on matters like this, it seems that there are lots of good alternatives out there, the "other" option seems like the winner one ;)
Again, about mplayer, Housetier: if you're a linux guy, and don't use windows, that sure seems like a good powerfull alternative, but if you need a player for windows, I'd check BSplayer, i think it is a good alternative to building mplayer in windows.. (yes, I'm not a big fan of compiling stuff for windows :( )

You know, in part, i do agree with you, i use real player for watching dvd's, i don't know why but real player is the only player that allows me to stretch the video to fit my screen properly (my screen is wide format).. :D

I was just about to see a movie in my pc, when i remembered it would be a nice idea to know other people's favorite players.
I myself use bsplayer, because it is very good to add subtitles to movies, and it allows me to do everything i want in a video player.
I've tried winamp, but those plugins for subtitles aren't enough, and for wmp and real player, i hate those bars that appear when you accidentally move the mouse
So, what's your choice?

Best E-mail Client / Re: How I set up my mail folders
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 17, 2006, 04:30 AM »
With all this thing about webmail vs mail client, i just went off-topic and didn't get to say how i set up my mail folders. So, here goes:
<OnTopic>
As everyone with gmail, primarily, i separate my e-mail between the inbox, the archive, the sent e-mail and spam.
The spam gets filtered to spam's folder, and the rest of the received mail goes to inbox.
In the inbox, sent mail and archive, i tag (actually, gmail does it for me) my e-mail using the folowing markers:
- Pedro (all the e-mail received from a friend of mine that i usually mail to)
- ist (all the incoming mail from my university, which also includes mails from Pedro, since he's my colleague)
- logins (where i keep all the e-mails i receive concerning logins to sites and stuff like that, since i keep forgetting my logins, and in my last e-mail box,i couldn't find anything)
- family (all the e-mails from my family)
I keep the most recent, important, or simply unsolved mails in my inbox, and everything else goes to archive ;)

@ brotherS: since you also use gmail, how do you organize your mail? Do you simply put everything to archive, or you use something similar to how i do it?

Cranky: do you really believe what they say?
I mean...The firstline they say "Google offers more storage for your email than other Internet service providers that we know about".. LOL
Just check walla. They have been offering bigger mail boxes than gmail even before gmail appeared!!
Honestly,I don't think it's a good idea to go that way, that aready is very well discussed all over.

« Last post by jgpaiva on January 16, 2006, 05:35 PM »
@Kfitting: I'm not an ahk expert, i've just been playing with if for the last 2 weeks.I've checked your code and everything seems to be perfect, you selected all the maximum performance options, it should work.As i found strange it didn't, i tried it myself, and on my machine it had no problems at all..I don't write very fast, but did my max on writing "dont" and it corrected it everytime.
Wouldn't it be your script that is very crowded with code, and it takes some time to act, or maybe (as mentioned in help file), your "CPU is frequently under heavy load"... I'm Just guessing here, but i can tell you that it worked well with me.

@brotherS: Thanks! That link is great to distribute through my friends and make them fall in love with ahk ;)

Hum.. I think now I've understood how exclusions work.
@Stefan: thanks for the tip, using au3spy really helps on knowing where to cut!
No problem about autoscrolling not working in winamp, it was more as an example than a really useful feature (what's the use of taking a screenshot of your playlist when you can export it? ;))
But now I've some idea on how to use the exceptions! Thanks! :D

Whoa Hirudin, you are even more committed to mail clients than I'm to gmail! (who's paying you? ;) )
I can see your point about the privacy thing with google, but there, i can tell you that if you're using gmail's pop, you've got the same result, even though the mail gets sent by pop,it still gets stored in gmail and even if you say you want it to be deleted in gmail, they still have access to it (it happened to a friend of mine's friend, that deleted a very important mail, and asked google if there was a way to get it back. next day, there it was.. *spooky!*). Anyways, I'm not really afraid of those privacy issues of google, since all all in all, what they give me is much better than what i give them. But if you're against google, what i can say to you is: do not use gmail, no way!
I see your point about the space. And that's true if you only receive text e-mails and not much spam, but imagine if you receive 10 e-mails with 10MB attachments that in the end you find out you really didn't want to have and you end up deleting. Wouldn't it be better to delete them at the source? And spam, you still download it, if you've got much spam, it could create a real loss (i had an account in a Portuguese mailer that i had to cancel because of too much spam,it would fill the inbox in about 1 week :S).
I don't really know this for sure, but i have the idea that downloading an e-mail with attachments though email client also takes more time than checking it in webmail (it happened to me in the time i used e-mail clients, maybe it doesn't work like that)
What i was referring about the sent mail is if the sent mail through the email client gets stored in the webmail. You wouldn't have access to it online. I thought it didn't, my fault (it seems that my former webmail client was really bad, too :S)

Actually, the last two things you mentioned are two of the most interesting capabilities about gmail:
1) you have the possibility to import and export contacts
2) you can re-direct your email to another email
Which means that when you're tired of gmail, you can redirect it somewhere else, and export your contacts list...

@mouser: I know what you mean about having many e-mail accounts, but if they all had this feature of having re-direction,you could re-direct the all to only one account, and have them all centered :D

@m_s: gml is an interesting app, maybe it will be usefull to Hirudin when i can  finally have him turn to gmail, right Hirudin? ;);)

(ps: that thing about mentioning the space of the antivirus...Until last week, I didn't have one, but anyways, i just got a bit carried away ;) )

I've found 3 windows where sc's autoscrolling ability seems not to work.
First is winamp's playlist window (although it works with all of the media library).
Second and third are in msnmessenger's conversation and contacts window.
I can't understand how to do an exception, could you explain a little better how to do it (maybe show an example,or something like that)?

Best E-mail Client / Re: How I set up my mail folders

(honestly, brotherS,I'm starting to feel bad, people will start to think we're hired by google or something like that, but no,we're just happy costumers :D)
Superboyac: IMO,storing e-mail in your own computer doesn't bring you much good..It's not only a waste of space,by needing outlook (or something else) and then a spam blocker, and an antivirus, and that big paraphernalia, just to see a few lines of text!
But it is also a waste of time, since you have to wait for the mails to be downloaded.
Plus,it's only a limitation: imagine you want to check your mail when not in your computer..You can allways go to the site and check it, but then, you need to have copies both in the computer and on the e-mail server..Seems like a waste, but that is not the only problem.
You cant see the mails you already sent.. (at least,i think so,i don't use mail in outlook or something like that for few years) And you don't have access to your contacts, unless you have them in both places (gee..setting them all up in both places? and then updating them? it seems like too much effort)
How about when you can't find that e-mail that has the password to a forum you haven't used for a few million years now? Well google it! Or just have a tag for logins, and search for it in there..
And there is one thing that has been forgotten (don't know if you use it brotherS,but i think you must),that is gmail's unique way of grouping mails..If you send a mail to someone and that person answers you,the received e-mail gets grouped with the one you sent, creating the unique concept of "conversations",so as you don't have the mails all spread though sent e-mails,archived e-mails,inbox,and whatever more folders you have created..
Honestly, what i'm trying to say is that gmail could revolutionize the way you e-mail.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Win - R and short shortcuts
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 15, 2006, 02:29 PM »
By non-intrusive,i assume you mean by not having install, right?
(sorry,I'm not English :S)
If so,i use this small program: typeandrun, witch acts as part of my launcher (only for the most used apps, for everything else,i use farr) and as my run/ cmd / explorer bar.
Also,in combination with autohotkey, (sorry for repeating myself, but i think you really should check this, because you can create your own scripts, compile them, and use them from a pen in any computer, becoming that computer very similar to your own),i don't use start button (my shell doesn't even have one) nor desktop icons (my shell doesn't have them to ;)).

Oh,and i forgot,i think farr has no installation..You can only extract it to a folder, and use it,as do all the apps referred in this post.
(but i must agree with you,i didn't yet get the hang on the regex,i still don't use much aliases, still waiting on a good thread on that)

You sure have a mammoth memory..250 shotcuts are a lot of letters ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Win - R and short shortcuts
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 15, 2006, 10:40 AM »
Hum..That's a nice collection of shotcuts you have there, ovehal!
But IMHO,those are too much for me.As mouser mentioned,if you mostly use those shortcuts do launch google searches, and urls, you might try checking the "Always launch first result on hitting enter" option, and changing the google alias to ggt, you'd have a result very similar to that of the wis shortcuts. But i sure agree that installing the shortcuts is a much easier way then setting them all up in farr ;)
(just curiosity: do you use all those shortcuts? do you remember them or use hlp?)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Win - R and short shortcuts
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 14, 2006, 05:13 PM »
Whoa...Those are a hole lot of shotcuts! :D
I didn't install them,bt just had a look at some of them and it seems quite interesting.
Do you use them? Do you find them to be useful?
Do you use farr? I mean,i think most of the commands in those shortcuts can be done with farr and autohotkey (if you don't know it,you should: Autohotkey -> it's sort of the official scripting language of donationcoder ;))
The great advantage about these shortcuts are that they have already been done by someone :D
But the by description you gave,i think that it's unusefull if you use farr as your launcher, because the aliases in farr allow you to search google, imdb, etc, run programs, lower the computer's volume, open urls,etc...And when associated with some ahk scripting...Well,the sky is the limit ;)
Anyways, could you give some more examples on what the shortcuts do? (the readme doesn't go much further that your quote did..)
4569
Yes,that really is not a perfect solution,(in Portugal,i think there will only a few places ;)..problems about being a small country) but i don't think that frappr's system can be implemented (although I'm not the expert, right mouser ) and seeing the global usage meters on the server, would already allow us to have some idea on the globalization of dc...
Anyways, technical limitations apart,I'd also like to see the members in the map ;)
4570
@Carol:
I also think that googlemap is a great way,it doesn't need to be updated and we can see who is where. But is there any way to get one of those in the site,or is it only available in frappr?

@mouser:
those charts are like statistics got from the ip's of the people that visit the site, they are computer-generated,rather than made by each of us adding himself to it,right?
Anyway,it's a great concept, gives you and idea on how this site is spread over the world! :D
BTW,is there any counter in the site telling you how may hits it has had since it opened?

My advice: use Google Mail :) http://mail.google.com/
IMO,there's no better advice when it comes to e-mail.I support your opinion, brotherS!
I don't even know how didn't anyone had google's idea before! ;)
Perfect for handling e-mail,gmail allows you to create filters giving you no work at all when it comes to organize e-mail..And if you can't find any of it,just it! :D
You can even be too lazy, and just "archive" everything and later, search for it...
And,as mentioned in another post, you also get the bonus of having a great spam filter

Screenshot Captor / Re: Strange..
« Last post by jgpaiva on January 13, 2006, 02:46 PM »
Just made a few tests and i got to these conclusions (it gets stranger by the minute ):
1) if i only capture with prtsc,no problems.i can do as many captures as i want an nothing goes wrong.
2) if i do a capture with redbox,i can then edit it and everything, and no problems again.
3) if i do any capture (with redbox or prtsc) after the one with redbox,no problems and everything runs smooth.
4) after all,the problem has nothing to do with captures or not.it's in the icon on the taskbar.if i restore sc's window after doing a capture,i have no problems at all.but if i restore it by double-clicking in the taskbar icon,it acts like that.even immediately after sc being loaded.
So,i'm back with having problems with sc's icon..(Before this,i already hd problems with the icon and my shell, because it acts diferently from any other icon i have)

« Last post by jgpaiva on January 13, 2006, 02:32 PM »
hum..i guess i didn't explain myself very well :S
What i showed, has only effect over sc,before that happened,i was using the computer without any problems, and even when sc is maximized,i can use opera, for instance and have no problem using it..
Now that you mention it,earlier today, the last time i used sc,i did the redbox in opera, possibly your're right.
I don't think it has anything to do with rebooting, since rebooted last night, after installing sc.
Maybe we could tray to see if somewone else has the same problem, and check if it's my shell's problem or not, there's no need to chage the program if i'm the only one experiencing problems...
(I will now try to test a bit more to see if it really if from the red box selection or not)

Sorry for bugging you guys with something that most probably is my computer's (more specifically,my shell's) fault. But i really need to know if the time has came for me to change back to explorer :P
It isn't the first time that I've had problems that nobody else had,but i think i should report this anyways.
Below is a demonstration of my problem.Sometimes, when i get back to cs after it has been in the tray,it behaves like that,it just doesn't respond to anything other the close button (in my shell,right-clicking the top bar is the same as clicking the close button). But still,as i hover over the menu selections and toolbar items, the respond..Am I the only one that gets this type of thing?
(as i think i am,can someone please throw me a good lightweight and highly configurable shell to use instead of explorer?)
thanks!

(couldn't upload the file...got it into yousendit.com *sorry!*)
